Chapter 759: Return to the PalaceChapter 759: Chapter 759: Return to the Palace
"Let’s go to my palace," Isabella said, adjusting her dress while trying to hide the intense blush on her cheeks. "I want to catch up on everything that has happened."
"Hey, I’m not that easy," Ethan replied with a smirk, placing a hand over his chest in a dramatic gesture. "At least you should buy me a drink before taking me to your bedroom."
Isabella stared at him for a second, confused by his sudden objection, until the innuendo fully registered in her mind.
"You are an idiot...!" the princess gasped, her eyes widening as the red hue invaded her face all over again.
"Alright, alright, don’t get mad," Ethan teased, raising his hands in mock surrender. "If you want, I’ll strip right now."
"Ethan!" she protested, turning around in huff to march down the corridor at a hurried pace.
Without wasting any more time, the two left the hall, leaving King Alaric submerged in his deep trance of spiritual ascension. As they walked through the corridors of the royal fortress, Ethan’s presence no longer drew suspicion; guards and servants stepped aside with marked reverence, fully aware that the young swordsman had been appointed Princess’s Protector and Deputy General by the monarch himself.
Upon reaching the Silver Moon Palace—Isabella’s private residence within the royal grounds—the doors opened to grant them entry into a serene space protected by powerful isolation arrays.
"No one can disturb or overhear us here," Isabella said, sinking into a large silk armchair and letting out a long sigh of exhaustion. "Now then, tell me everything that happened during your journey and how you managed to mobilize that fleet without anyone noticing."
Ethan walked over to a high window overlooking the inner gardens, crossing his arms before turning back to face her.
"Where to begin..." Ethan murmured with a calm smile. "The journey south had more setbacks than I anticipated, but the undead inheritance proved to be far more useful than either of us imagined."
....
By the time Ethan finished recounting every detail of the battle and the complex maneuvers required to mobilize the fleet, night had fully settled over the palace. Isabella was so deeply immersed in the story that she didn’t even notice the exact moment Ethan wrapped his arms around her, holding her gently against his chest.
Upon suddenly realizing her position, the princess recoiled with a small gasp, staring at him with wide eyes.
"What did you do to me?" Isabella gasped, trying to sound indignant. "Are you a hypnotist or something?"
"Not at all," Ethan replied with a serene smile. "You are simply showing your true desires, and you desire to be with me."
Isabella said nothing. Nor did she pull away in the slightest; instead, she nestled further against his chest, quietly enjoying the moment and the steady warmth of his heartbeat.
Suddenly, the walls of the Silver Moon Castle trembled violently. The ceiling’s runic arrays sputtered as an overwhelming, majestic spiritual pressure forced its way through the fortress. The King had finished assimilating the gem.
"Well," Ethan commented smoothly, stroking her hair. "It seems our father is on his way."
"’Our’?" Isabella questioned, raising her head.
At that exact moment, the double doors of the hall burst open, revealing the imposing frame of Alaric von Dragonia, whose body still radiated the silver aura of the Spiritual Transcendence Realm.
"Take your hands off my daughter, you insolent brat!" the monarch’s voice roared, shaking the chamber.
Ethan didn’t flinch in the slightest, keeping a firm arm wrapped around the princess’s waist.
"Congratulations on your breakthrough, Your Majesty," Ethan said in a respectful yet relaxed tone. "I am glad to see you turned your misfortune into fortune."
However, instead of calming down, the vein on Alaric’s forehead looked ready to burst. Seeing Ethan hold his daughter so brazenly right before his eyes, the King seemed to lose every ounce of his sanity, bellowing out:
"I am going to teach you how to respect your King and the Princess’s father, you shameless scoundrel!"
In a split second, Alaric lunged forward, throwing a fist charged with silver energy that made the air crackle. Ethan, maintaining composure, simply tilted his body half a pulse beforehand, causing the monarch’s blow to tear through empty air.
"Hey, Your Majesty, is this how you repay the man who saved your kingdom and your life!" Ethan teased, stepping to the side and dodging an ascending kick with a fluid motion of his still-sheathed sword.
"Shut up! Your merit is one thing, and taking advantage of my little girl is another!" Alaric roared, unleashing a barrage of open-handed strikes and thrusts.
Ethan began moving through the hall’s shadows, dodging every onslaught with staggering agility, taking the whole matter almost as a game. He quickly noticed that although the King roared like a monster and displayed a terrifying aura, his attacks completely lacked lethal intent or killing force. He wasn’t trying to kill him; he was simply an irrational, impulsive father venting his jealousy against the boy who was stealing his daughter.
"Dad, stop!" Isabella yelled from the side, torn between embarrassment and anger as she watched the two most powerful men in the realm put on such a spectacle.
"Not until I wipe that brazen smirk off his face!" the King bellowed, throwing a straight punch to the face that Ethan ducked gracefully.
"Admit it, father-in-law, you’re just using me as a punching bag to test your new power!" Ethan laughed, reappearing three paces away and crossing his arms.
Alaric came to a sudden halt, huffing heavily like an enraged bull. He glared at Ethan with narrowed eyes, then looked at Isabella, who was staring at him with her arms crossed and an expression of disapproval.
"Hmph!" the King grunted, adjusting his robes that had been disheveled from the exertion. "Consider this a warning, brat. Next time I won’t be so gentle."
Without giving them time to respond, the King turned on his heel in huff and marched out of the hall, leaving the pair alone once again amid the disarray.
