Chapter 763: The Hunt in the AbyssChapter 763: Chapter 763: The Hunt in the Abyss
Vaelen felt the presence behind him and turned his head slightly. Seeing Ethan holding onto the ship’s metallic hull while the abyssal wind roared around him, a spark of surprise crossed his gray eyes, only to be replaced by a stern scowl.
"I told you to stay inside, brat," Vaelen shouted, having to raise his voice over the spatial din. "If you disintegrate out here, your little princess will blame me for the rest of my life."
"Worry about your own skin, old man," Ethan replied with a defiant smirk, tightening his grip on his black sword. "It seems this environment likes to bite."
Before Vaelen could respond, a deafening roar vibrated through the violet stream. Three colossal Void Worms charged simultaneously from the left flank, their maws bristling with circular teeth gaping wide to swallow part of the White-Sea Dragon’s hull.
"Nuisances!" Vaelen bellowed.
The Great General took a step into the empty air. With a simple wave of his raised hand, the spatial energy around the three beasts compressed Violently. The laws of matter distorted, and the worms’ gigantic bodies were crushed upon themselves, leaving behind deformed masses of flesh floating adrift in the current.
Ethan seized the moment and launched an attack. He unleashed a direct strike from his black sword, imbued with Dao energy, toward an approaching worm. However, his attack merely scraped the creature’s hard chitinous shell, leaving only a faint white scratch before being repelled.
"Tch, what a waste..." Ethan muttered, adjusting his grip in frustration. "I wish I could catch them."
[Master, use the sphere the Lich gave you to attract their corpses,] Crul suggested quickly in his mind. [Release some of the undead as well to act as bait and draw more worms toward the sphere. If the Great General asks, simply tell him you need them to strengthen your undead troops.]
Following Crul’s advice to avoid raising suspicion about his true lineage, Ethan pulled out the necromantic sphere from his storage ring and tossed it into the open space. The sphere began to emanate a dark aura that acted like a magnet for the floating corpses’ metabolic mass. Immediately, he summoned a small horde of undead soldiers, who scattered around the ship as bait to draw in the remaining beasts.
Vaelen observed the maneuver with narrowed eyes, pausing his attacks for a brief moment.
"Necromancy?" the Great General asked with a raised eyebrow, assessing the scene.
"Just collecting resources, Great General," Ethan replied, maintaining his composure. "The corpses of these beasts will serve to strengthen my undead."
Vaelen let out a hmph and turned his attention back to the tide of creatures.
"Do as you wish, brat, but don’t get in my way," the old man grunted, unleashing another barrage of spatial compression to clear the path for the White-Sea Dragon..
The tide of shadows within the violet current kept multiplying. Instead of scattering, the scent of abyssal fluid and the presence of the undead drew hundreds of additional Void Worms emerging from the depths of the distorted dimension.
"Halt the ship!" Vaelen ordered through the White-Sea Dragon’s transmission channel. "If we keep moving blindly, they will completely surround us!"
The colossal vessel brought its runic engines to a stop, deploying an emergency spherical shield while the Great General charged into the center of the horde.
Vaelen drew no weapons. Utilizing solely his own physical body and an absolute mastery over the laws of the world, he began to strike. With every punch he threw into the open air, the surrounding energy condensed into two imposing silver dragons that roared through the void. His strikes tore through matter, shredding the worms’ chitinous shells as if they were made of paper.
(Crul, what kind of law is that?) Ethan inquired in his mind as he watched the old man’s technique in fascination.
[It is the Law of Metal, Master,] Crul answered in his consciousness. [It is a basic elemental law, but carried to the level of the True Spirit Physique Realm, its density and penetration power become absolute.]
However, despite the devastating pace at which Vaelen pulverized the creatures, the worms showed not the slightest hint of fear. They swarmed again and again, using their own bodies to stall the Great General while Ethan, with the necromantic sphere floating nearby, greedily collected every mass of flesh and residual spatial energy.
Suddenly, a colossal worm—far outsizing the rest—managed to bypass Vaelen’s perimeter, veering into a direct trajectory toward the White-Sea Dragon’s command bridge.
Vaelen noticed the movement, but he was surrounded by more than ten large beasts blocking his retreat.
"Damn it!" the old man grumbled, attempting to force his way through.
Seeing that the Great General could not return in time to intercept it, Ethan gritted his teeth. He couldn’t allow the ship to suffer a direct impact.
Without overexerting his Sword Dao Heart to avoid backlash, Ethan channeled his body’s full physical strength alongside his remaining spiritual energy and unleashed his skill: [Twilight].
A dark, twilight glow sliced through the void’s air. The thrust crossed space and struck squarely on the worm’s neck. The shell gave way with a dull crack, carving a deep wound into the beast, though the strike wasn’t lethal enough to kill it.
"Now!" Ethan commanded internally.
Taking advantage of the gap opened by the slash, the horde of undead summoned by Ethan surged forward, violently forcing their way through the open wound. From inside the monster’s body, the death soldiers began tearing apart its internal organs and energy channels, causing the beast to collapse lifelessly just meters from the ship’s shield.
Witnessing the scene from afar, Great General Vaelen let out a sigh of relief amid the spatial storm, and without wasting another moment, refocused on the horde, slaughtering the remaining worms with his silver dragon fists.
Ethan sent the necromantic sphere zipping through open space, absorbing every flesh fragment, chitinous shell remnant, and residual spatial energy still drifting in the violet current.
"Hey, brat, stop wasting time looting!" Vaelen’s voice roared with urgency. "Engage the engines and let’s get out of here before the scent of blood wakes up the Worm Queen!"
The White-Sea Dragon let out a mighty roar, flaring its engines to absolute maximum to execute an emergency spatial jump, leaving the disturbed abyssal dimension far behind.
