Tempting Him to Lose Control

Chapter 122: If There’s No Love, Then Make Hate

Chapter 122: Chapter 122: If There’s No Love, Then Make Hate

Ginger licked its paws, teasing her, before hopping off the bed.

"You little traitor..." Claire Kendall gritted her teeth. As she got up to chase it again, a hand seized her wrist.

Before she could even react, she was pulled onto the bed, and the man was on top of her.

"What... what are you doing...?"

Miles Warren leaned close to her ear, his breath warm.

"You."

Claire turned her head, dodging his kiss.

"We’re still fighting. We can’t make love—"

"Fine." Miles gripped her chin, forcing her to look at him.

"Then let’s make hate."

His lips crashed down on hers.

Unlike before, this kiss was punishing, an all-out assault, and Claire was about to be overwhelmed.

She finally managed to catch her breath, her voice trembling.

"Miles Warren, what exactly is going on between you and Stella Locke?"

He held her legs down. "There’s nothing between us."

He had complete control over Claire. Just when he’d driven her to the edge, he asked, his voice harsh and cruel.

"Still want a divorce?"

"Asshole! If you’re not going to finish what you started, I’m leaving. This is pointless..." Claire pushed him away.

But Miles Warren yanked her back and switched off the bedside lamp.

A long time later, when everything had finally settled, Claire was already fast asleep.

On the large bed, Miles Warren pulled out a cat treat and tossed it onto the floor. Having waited all this time, Ginger finally got what it wanted. It snatched the treat and scampered off.

’If I hadn’t done that, how else would she have come to me?’

「The next morning」

Claire Kendall woke up with an aching back and sore muscles.

She winced. ’Miles Warren has no idea what restraint means!’

’What was that all about? Making up after a fight? But it doesn’t feel like we’ve made up. When he said there was nothing between him and Stella Locke yesterday, was he just saying that out of anger, or was it the truth?’

After she got dressed, she saw a fresh breakfast laid out on the dining table.

The plate looked familiar. It was the same one that had held the pasta from yesterday, only now it had been washed clean by Miles.

The kitchen was as spotless as an operating room.

’The breakfast was made just to my liking. If Miles hadn’t brought up divorce, a life like this really would be a pleasure.’

After breakfast, Claire Kendall went to the hospital. Lindsay Joyce’s surgery was in two days.

As soon as she entered the inpatient building and stepped out of the elevator, Claire heard the young nurses at the station gossiping.

"Who’s that woman? She’s so elegant. She seems to know Professor Warren really well."

"That’s the one he never got over. She just came back from abroad and is also a fashion designer."

"Then what about Ms. Kendall? I think she and Dr. Warren are the ones who look like a perfect match. Dr. Warren dotes on her so much!"

"Who knows? The woman by his side can never compete with the one he never got over."

...

Claire stood around the corner, waiting for a long moment. Only after they had finished their conversation and the shifts changed did she step out.

’Stella Locke came to the hospital?’

’Of course. She must have come back to chase after Miles, clear up their misunderstandings, and get back together with him.’

Claire bit her lip and headed to Lindsay Joyce’s room.

With the surgery approaching, Lindsay was looking much better than before.

"How’s OCHH doing?"

"We borrowed Ian Rhodes’s production line to finish the back orders. The Warren Group can’t touch OCHH for the time being, but to break out of this situation..." Claire paused. "We need an injection of fresh blood. I’m already brainstorming new designs."

But she’d been stuck on it for a week, feeling restless and distracted, with no good ideas coming to her.

"Don’t rush. It’s already great that we can finish the remaining orders." Lindsay’s gaze fell on the marks on Claire’s neck, and she didn’t beat around the bush.

"Tell Miles Warren to show some restraint. Your body can’t handle him wearing you out like that."

COUGH, COUGH... Claire nearly choked and quickly pulled up her collar.

"Something on your mind?"

Claire shook her head. "It’s just company business. Don’t worry about it. Just focus on resting for your surgery. With Professor Olek operating, it’s sure to go smoothly."

The two chatted for a while longer before Claire left.

At the hospital entrance, she saw Stella Locke.

Stella Locke walked right up to her.

"Claire, what a coincidence. My stomach’s been feeling a little upset, so I came to the hospital to have Miles give me a check-up."

"Is it anything serious?"

"I’m fine. Miles’s examination was very thorough. It just hurt a little when he pressed down." Stella rested a palm on her stomach.

Claire nodded. "As long as you’re okay. I have to go, I have something to do."

"Claire!" Stella called out, stopping her. "Don’t worry about what happened at the family home yesterday."

"You two didn’t fight when you went back, did you?"

Claire looked up at her, simmering with frustration.

She had a delicate, fragile air, and though she hadn’t said anything explicitly hostile, every word she uttered made Claire deeply uncomfortable.

’How come she’s nothing like the gentle, understanding ’one he never got over’ from the romance novels?’

Claire held it in and coldly spat out two words: "We fought."

"Oh?" Stella said softly. "I’m so sorry. I’ll be sure to explain everything to Miles."

"Ohhh—" Claire drew out the word, then added, "In bed." And with that, she turned and walked away.

Stella Locke stood frozen in place, her fingers clenched into tight fists.

Instead of going back to OCHH, Claire called Sharon Carter and asked her to meet for afternoon tea.

"What? The one Miles never got over is back in the country?!"

Claire quickly grabbed her arm, motioning for her to sit down and lower her voice.

"Isn’t this Stella Locke just the definition of a two-faced bitch? There’s no way Miles is actually into a woman like that. Are you sure you didn’t get it wrong?"

Claire shook her head. "I’m not wrong. Every detail lines up perfectly."

She pulled out her phone, found a photo of Stella Locke, and showed it to Sharon.

"Do you think we look alike?"

Sharon shook her head. "Not even a little." She narrowed her eyes, studying Claire. "Last night... you two did it?"

Claire nodded.

"I really think you’ve got it wrong," Sharon said, confused, before offering a new theory. "Unless... was it breakup sex?"

"Could be. He kept asking me something about divorce yesterday, but I fell asleep. I don’t remember it clearly."

Sharon clicked her tongue. "Girl, if you ask me, you shouldn’t even bother fighting with that ’one he never got over.’ In this scenario, you’re just the collateral damage."

"Your marriage was a mystery to begin with. You only married him out of guilt, so just use this as an excuse to finally get a divorce."

"Come on, let’s go!" Sharon yanked Claire to her feet. "Time for a party to celebrate your impending singlehood!"

Sharon dragged Claire into one of Aethel’s most exclusive bars.

Or, to be more precise, a male host club.

"Isn’t this a bit much?"

Sharon shoved her inside. "What’s not to like? This is perfect!"

In their booth, Sharon ordered a whole lineup of male hosts, each with a different type and style.

There was even one in a white lab coat, doing a doctor cosplay.

"Claire, this one should be your type."

Sharon waved him over. "Hey, you. Come and keep my girl Claire company~"
