Tempting Him to Lose Control

Chapter 50: Dr. Warren Is Very Busy

Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Dr. Warren Is Very Busy

Late at night.

Claire Kendall lay in bed. In the darkness, her phone screen cast a faint glow, frozen on a photo from Jonathan Keller’s social feed.

Miles Warren’s hand, and a small cake.

It must have been from that female model at the pool.

Claire Kendall turned off her phone, plunging the room into total darkness. She stared blankly at the ceiling.

Her heart ached, but not intensely.

’Maybe it’s for the best not to pursue that unattainable man...’

「The next day, the rain had stopped.」

Claire Kendall used foundation to cover the dark circles under her eyes and went to the hospital to visit Shirley Kendall.

Her mother was sitting up and eating breakfast, her spirits much more stable.

"Claire, did you not sleep well last night? Why do you look so worn out?"

"I stayed up late finishing a design sketch. It’s nothing. How are you? Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?"

Shirley Kendall patted her daughter’s hand, her heart aching for her. "It’s all thanks to Dr. Warren. He’s taken such good care of me and helped lift my spirits. After my surgery, we absolutely must invite him over for a home-cooked meal to thank him properly."

Claire’s hand faltered as she poured water, and she nearly scalded herself.

She refused outright. "Mom, Dr. Warren is very busy. We don’t need to trouble him like that."

"No matter how busy I am, I can always make time for an invitation from you, Auntie..."

A deep, cool voice came from the doorway of the hospital room.

Miles Warren had come to do his rounds.

His gaze flickered over Claire Kendall in an instant. When he turned to Shirley Kendall, his tone was gentle. "Auntie, your test results are all good. We can schedule the surgery for next week. Just focus on resting."

"Oh, that’s wonderful! Dr. Warren, Claire and I are so indebted to you... How is the injury you got while saving me last time?"

Claire’s gaze instinctively fell on Miles Warren’s left arm.

He gave a faint smile. "Don’t worry, it’s all healed. I’ll go check on the next room now."

Shirley Kendall quickly said, "Claire, go see Dr. Warren out."

Miles Warren shot Claire Kendall a deep glance, his tone flat but laced with a bone-chilling coldness.

"There’s no need to trouble her. Ms. Kendall is very busy. Not only does she have work, but she also has to make time to pick out suitable gifts..."

He stressed the last two words.

Claire Kendall remembered the piece of black lace he had hooked with his fingertip in the parking lot yesterday.

She bit her lip.

’This man... he’s so petty.’

The man turned and left, pulling the door gently shut behind him.

"Claire, you and Dr. Warren..."

"There’s nothing between us," Claire Kendall denied quickly, before her mother could finish.

She changed the subject, giving Shirley Kendall a few more instructions before leaving the hospital.

Outside, the sunlight was a bit harsh.

Her phone rang abruptly.

She answered the call.

"Claire Kendall, you’re flying to Corale with me tomorrow."

"What for?"

Ethan Lynch scoffed. "Medari in Corale is interested in discussing a partnership with Lynch Group. Medari’s CEO absolutely dotes on his wife. They’re the classic model couple in our circles."

"You’ll come with me and play the part of my dutiful fiancée. As soon as the deal with Medari is secured, I’ll sign the Kendall Family’s contract immediately."

Claire Kendall agreed without hesitation. "Fine. Send me the information on Medari. I’ll do some prep."

The temperature in Corale was hot and humid, and the air was filled with a faint, salty smell.

The Rose Hotel, with its beautiful and luxurious decor, was a five-star resort hotel.

Claire Kendall and Ethan Lynch were led to the couple’s suite that Medari’s CEO had booked for them in advance.

Hazy mood lighting, a large bed strewn with flower petals, a two-person bathtub... everything in the room oozed intimacy.

Ethan Lynch’s eyes lingered on Claire Kendall as he loosened his tie. "Nice setup."

He leaned in, his tone conveying a sense of entitlement. "Tonight, my dear fiancée will just have to make do with me."

With her back to him, Claire Kendall unpacked her suitcase. "Don’t worry, I’ll sleep on the sofa. I won’t disturb you, Mr. Lynch."

"You..." Ethan Lynch sneered. "You’re about to marry me, yet you’re still so dull. Stop acting so high and mighty."

Claire Kendall took out a casual suit for Ethan Lynch.

"Mr. Lynch, you should take a shower and change. We’re having dinner with the Hales at the rooftop restaurant at seven. It wouldn’t be good to be late."

Not daring to jeopardize the important business deal, Ethan Lynch stopped pestering Claire Kendall.

At seven in the evening, the rooftop restaurant of The Rose was private and elegant.

Ryan Hale was nearly forty, with a refined air. Beside him, Megan Hale was well-maintained, her smile gentle. Sitting together, they looked inseparable.

"Mr. Lynch, I had the pleasure of briefly meeting your father in Aethel."

"Mr. Hale, Mrs. Hale, I’ve heard so much about you both," Ethan Lynch said, putting on the air of a brilliant young talent and exuding immense enthusiasm.

"This is my fiancée, Claire Kendall. We’re getting married very soon." He was eager to show off how devoted they were to each other.

Claire Kendall gave a slight nod and presented a gift she had prepared in advance.

"Mrs. Hale, it’s a pleasure to meet you. Just a small gift, a little token of my esteem."

Ethan Lynch shot Claire Kendall a glare, blaming her for not discussing it with him beforehand.

’What kind of decent gift could someone of her status possibly give? What if she offends them...’

Megan Hale opened the box curiously. After a two-second pause, she exclaimed in surprised delight, "Ah! It’s Snowball! Honey, come look!"

Ryan Hale leaned over, nodding repeatedly. "It really does look exactly like Snowball."

Megan Hale spread the handkerchief flat. On it was a lifelike embroidered Maltese puppy. Delighted, Megan Hale quickly took a photo and sent it to her friends to show off.

"Mrs. Hale, Ethan often told me you love dogs and have a Maltese at home. He showed me your social feed, so I embroidered one based on the photos," Claire Kendall said with a faint smile.

Ryan Hale looked at Ethan Lynch and nodded. "Very thoughtful of you, Mr. Lynch."

Ethan Lynch forced a smile. "Of course. It’s just a small token."

He glanced sideways at Claire Kendall. ’I didn’t expect this woman to actually have some skills,’ he thought.

"You embroidered this?" Megan Hale asked in amazement.

Claire Kendall nodded. "Yes, I own a small embroidery studio. The material of the handkerchief is Flowing Light Brocade."

"Flowing Light Brocade from Wexall Village in Aethel? I’ve heard my friends mention it."

"Mhm," Claire Kendall nodded lightly. "If you like it, I can bring some for you next time."

"That would be wonderful."

Claire Kendall quickly bonded with Megan Hale, finding common topics to discuss.

Ryan Hale laughed heartily. "Women, they just love these little trinkets..."

"Mr. Lynch, hold on a moment. A good friend of mine is in Corale on business and will be arriving shortly. He’s from Aethel as well. I’ll introduce you in a bit."

Not far away, a tall, handsome figure slowly approached.

Ryan Hale waved at the man. "Speak of the devil. Miles, over here!"

’Miles?’

Hearing the name, Claire Kendall snapped her head up.

Miles Warren was looking right at her.

For an instant, their eyes met.
