Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Cuffing Her to the Bed
Outside, Megan Hale’s voice faded away.
When Claire Kendall returned to the dining room, the dinner party had already broken up.
Megan Hale noticed her pale expression and said with concern, "You should get some rest early tonight."
She winked and lowered her voice. "I specially arranged a couple’s suite for you and Mr. Lynch to... get to know each other better."
Claire Kendall returned her smile. "Thank you, Mrs. Hale."
Everyone departed.
Ethan Lynch’s tone was relaxed. "Claire Kendall, I didn’t expect you to be so capable. You’ve got that couple wrapped around your little finger. The partnership is basically in the bag."
Claire Kendall’s gaze lowered, her tone stiff. "Then I’ll trouble you not to forget what you promised me, Mr. Lynch."
"Don’t worry, I’ll sign it as soon as we get back. And I’ll put in a good word for you with your father. Stick with me, and you’ll be well-rewarded."
Claire Kendall’s lips twitched into a stiff smile, but she didn’t respond.
Ethan Lynch looked puzzled. "But it’s strange, why was Miles Warren so agreeable today? He didn’t give me any trouble from start to finish. I thought he was going to try and trip me up over that business with The Arbor."
"Maybe he was in a good mood," Claire Kendall said before turning and heading back to the suite.
’He might not have tripped up Ethan Lynch, but he certainly made things difficult for me behind the scenes.’
The moment the door to the couple’s suite closed, Ethan Lynch started taking off his clothes, his eyes filled with unconcealed desire.
He walked over to her. "A spring night is worth a thousand gold pieces. We shouldn’t let Mrs. Hale’s good intentions go to waste."
"Everything went so perfectly today. Shouldn’t we... work on deepening our connection?"
As he spoke, he reached for Claire Kendall’s waist, but she swiftly dodged him.
Ethan Lynch’s hand froze in mid-air, his face instantly turning livid.
"Claire Kendall, don’t be shameless when I’m trying to be nice. I’m doing you a favor by wanting you. You think a few compliments can turn a common pheasant into a phoenix?"
She turned to face him, her expression blank and fearless.
"Mr. Lynch, you’d better think carefully. This contract with Medari hasn’t been finalized yet. If something were to go wrong in the meantime..."
It was as if a bucket of cold water had been thrown on the wicked fire in Ethan Lynch’s eyes.
He tugged at his collar in frustration and cursed under his breath, "Damn it. There’ll come a day when you’re begging me."
With that, he slammed the door and left.
Hearing his footsteps fade into the distance, the tension finally eased from Claire Kendall’s back.
Between having to act in front of Ryan and Megan Hale and dealing with Miles Warren, she was physically and mentally exhausted.
She grabbed her room key and went down to the back garden for some fresh air.
As she passed a trellis, she faintly heard the ambiguous sounds of a man and a woman entangled, followed by the wet sound of kissing.
She stopped in her tracks, intending to walk away, but a glance from the corner of her eye revealed that the man passionately kissing the woman was none other than Ethan Lynch.
The woman in his arms wore a slip dress, her figure fiery. The two were embracing tightly, locked in an inseparable kiss.
Claire Kendall’s brow furrowed slightly.
’This Ethan Lynch is a real stud, letting his little head do the thinking for his big one. In just half an hour, he’s already found someone to spend the night with.’
’She didn’t care how he wanted to fool around, but what if Ryan and Megan Hale ran into them in a public place like this?’
’If the partnership fell through, she’s the one who would be affected!’
Claire Kendall gritted her teeth, stepped forward, and interrupted, "Ethan Lynch."
The two, lost in their passion, broke apart.
Ethan Lynch showed no panic at being "caught in the act," just a flash of impatience in his eyes.
"What? You won’t sleep with me, so you won’t let me find someone else to sleep with?"
The model nestled in his arms. "Honey, this can’t be that fiancée you were talking about, can she? She’s so old and ugly, and so nosy."
Claire Kendall took two steps forward and stood right in front of her.
Her sharp gaze swept over the woman.
"A nose job, a chin job, a boob job... Who are you calling old and ugly?"
Claire Kendall’s tone was cold. "I couldn’t care less how you want to play with him or how much money he spends on you."
"But let’s get one thing straight. A mistress is a rat in the gutter, and she should stay in the gutter. It’s wrong to come out and flaunt yourself."
She looked at Ethan Lynch. "What, do I need to call Ryan Hale and Megan Hale down here to enjoy your little performance together?"
The woman started to sob. "Mr. Lynch~"
Ethan Lynch’s expression changed drastically. He viciously gripped Claire Kendall’s wrist with enough force to crush her bones.
"You dare!"
He spat, then impatiently dragged the model away. "Alright, back to your room. What bad luck."
Claire Kendall’s eyes were dark. ’As long as there are no problems with the Medari contract, that’s all that matters.’
She rubbed her wrist. Ethan Lynch’s grip had left a bruise, and she would have to cover it with foundation before going out tomorrow.
"Ms. Kendall, as a fiancée, you truly have a tolerance beyond that of ordinary people."
A sharp, sarcastic voice came from behind her.
Miles Warren appeared on the other side of the trellis. There was no telling how long he had been standing there watching.
Claire Kendall looked up, meeting his mocking, merciless gaze.
"Mr. Warren, I also didn’t expect you to have a habit of peeping on married couples."
"Married couple?" Miles Warren repeated the words playfully, gritting his teeth.
"In that case, I’m quite tempted to tell Mr. Hale and Mrs. Hale just how wild you two are in private."
He had struck her right where it hurt.
She grew frantic. "Miles Warren, do you find this amusing? Threatening people like this? You’re shameless!"
She turned to leave in a fury.
Miles Warren rushed over and blocked her path.
"Do you really have to be with a scumbag like him? Are a few years of college feelings really making you this reluctant to leave him?"
"My business is none of your concern."
He laughed in anger. "Fine, I won’t get involved. But I’m not happy right now."
Before the words were even out of his mouth, he gave Claire Kendall no chance to resist and swept her up into his arms.
"Put me down!"
Miles Warren carried her to the couple’s suite she was supposed to share with Ethan Lynch.
The man set her down, but his hands remained locked around her waist.
"Room key."
Claire Kendall turned her head away, ignoring him.
The next second, Miles Warren plucked it directly from her pocket.
He swiped the card, opened the door, and pushed her onto the bed in one fluid motion.
Her whole body sank into the soft mattress, which was strewn with rose petals.
’This madman!’
Claire Kendall scrambled to get up in a panic, but Miles Warren was already kneeling on the bed with one knee. He leaned over her, easily grabbing her wrists with one hand and pinning them above her head.
With his free hand, Miles Warren pulled open the hotel drawer and took out a little prop—handcuffs.
"You—" Claire Kendall was both humiliated and furious.
’How could a hand that holds a scalpel be so adept at handling something like this?’
Miles Warren cuffed her left wrist, attaching the other end to the headboard.
She couldn’t break free.
"Miles Warren, you bastard!"
She kicked and struggled wildly, staring at the cold, silver glint of the handcuffs on her wrist until her strength finally gave out, leaving her panting.
"What on earth are you doing?"
Miles Warren turned a deaf ear to her curses.
He made no further aggressive moves. Kneeling on the carpet beside the bed, he twisted open a small metal tin, took hold of her right wrist, and slowly began applying something to it.
A cool, soothing sensation spread over the spot on her wrist that had been throbbing with pain from Ethan Lynch’s grip.
Claire Kendall shook her left wrist, making a CLING-CLANG sound.
She glanced at Miles Warren, her anger mixed with helplessness.
"Miles Warren, are you sick in the head? You handcuffed me just to put on some ointment?"
Suddenly, a frantic POUNDING erupted at the door.
"Claire Kendall, open up! Ryan Hale and Megan Hale are here!"
