Xie Wan: "Miss Jiang, Mr. Shen didn’t eat dinner. He went straight upstairs and hasn’t come back down."

Jiang Li frowned instinctively, wondering what was wrong with Shen Yanzhi.

After a moment’s thought, she muttered aloud, "Could he be angry that I didn’t go home sooner?"

The four of them left the private room together and walked to the lobby. Xu Shijie was waiting by the door. "Miss Jiang, please get in the car."

Jiang Li waved to Zhong Mufeng. "I’m heading out, then. You guys be safe on the way."

Then she turned to admonish Jing Jichuan, "And you, stop causing trouble for your Sister Qing."

Jing Jichuan grinned. "Got it! You can count on me, Sis. Head on home!"

Jiang Li shot Jing Jichuan an exasperated look before turning to Gu Mingyuan. "Mr. Gu, please be safe on your way."

Gu Mingyuan nodded. "You as well, Miss Jiang."

Once she was in the car, Jiang Li gave her instructions. "Take me to Hua Mansion first."

Shen Yanzhi loved their pastries, and she had to make the trip to apologize, even though she was feeling a bit sleepy.

At Hua Mansion, Jiang Li picked out several thousand yuan worth of pastries and also bought a small cake before finally rushing home.

On the way, she didn’t forget to ask Xie Wan to prepare some food for Shen Yanzhi so that she could take it all upstairs at once.

Since Shen Yanzhi had given Xie Wan the cold shoulder, he would at least have to show some deference to her, the mother of his child.

When she got home, Xie Wan was waiting in the living room.

Seeing Jiang Li, she immediately brought over a pair of slippers for her, saying, "Miss Jiang, dinner is ready."

Jiang Li nodded. "Okay, thank you."

"Do you need help carrying it upstairs?"

Jiang Li shook her head. "No, it’s fine. I can do it myself."

’An apology requires a show of sincerity.’

’Besides, I’m only a little over a month pregnant. How heavy can one dinner possibly be? I don’t need anyone’s help.’

Grabbing the small cake and Shen Yanzhi’s favorite pastries, and balancing the dinner tray, she headed upstairs.

But when she returned to their room, she found Shen Yanzhi wasn’t there. She put everything down and went to the study to find him.

Just as she’d thought, Shen Yanzhi was there, hammering away at the keyboard as if he had a grudge against it.

Jiang Li couldn’t help but shiver. She knocked on the door. "Still busy?"

Shen Yanzhi looked up at the sound of her voice, a flicker of pleasant surprise in his eyes. "You’re back!"

Jiang Li took a deep breath and walked toward Shen Yanzhi.

She stopped just a few inches from Shen Yanzhi and said apologetically, "I’m sorry. I went to play cards with Wenwen this afternoon, and then Qingbao asked me to dinner. I forgot to tell you."

Shen Yanzhi stood up and pulled Jiang Li into his arms. "It’s fine. There’s nothing to apologize for."

’As long as Jiang Li came back to him, he was content.’

’He wouldn’t even care if she had gone to see Zhao Sinian.’

Suddenly held in Shen Yanzhi’s arms, Jiang Li nervously licked her lips. "I heard from Xiao Xie that you skipped dinner, so I had the kitchen make you something. Humor me?"

Shen Yanzhi released Jiang Li, then took her hand and laced their fingers together. "Let’s go eat. I happen to be hungry."

Jiang Li looked down at their intertwined hands, and the corners of her lips curved up slightly.

’To hold your hand, and grow old with you.’

She didn’t know if she would grow old with Shen Yanzhi, but what she did know was that right now, she was content.

Worried the smell of food would linger, Jiang Li had placed the dinner out on the balcony.

Back in the room, Jiang Li went out to the balcony first. She held the small cake in her palm, and as Shen Yanzhi approached, she held it up to him. "A peace offering."

Shen Yanzhi recognized the logo on the cake at a glance and knew Jiang Li had been to Hua Mansion. His heart melted. "You didn’t do anything wrong, what are you making peace for?"

Jiang Li blinked. "Not doing what I promised you counts as a mistake."

Shen Yanzhi couldn’t resist reaching out to cover her eyes. "You don’t have to go to such trouble next time. Even if you did nothing, I wouldn’t be mad at you."

Jiang Li pouted. "Then why are you covering my eyes?"

Shen Yanzhi released his hand and answered her question with his actions.

In the end, the meal grew cold, completely untouched. The small cake, however, was consumed in an entirely different manner.

Jiang Li thought, ’I’m never doing this again. Otherwise, I’m afraid I won’t last until the baby is full-term.’

And she truly couldn’t look at a cake anymore. They were both supposed to be new to this, so how did Shen Yanzhi know so much?

Or perhaps, men were just naturally gifted in this area and didn’t need any practice at all?

But Jiang Li didn’t dwell on it for long. All she wanted to do now was rest.
