"...You want me to train you?" Finn asked, looking at Cana with a mixture of amusement and mild disbelief.
"Yes," Cana nodded confidently. She leaned forward over the island counter, purposely shifting her weight to let the generous curves of her cleavage spill dangerously close to the edge of her bikini top. She shot him a sultry, heavy-lidded look. "What do you think?"
Unfortunately for Cana, Finn was completely immune to her display. Having spent the entire previous night completely draining the durable, submissive Flare, his carnal desires were thoroughly satisfied for the moment.
"Go train on your own," Finn deadpanned, casually taking another sip of his black coffee. "Do I look like a man with free time to you? I have an entire kingdom’s worth of Council paperwork to handle today."
"...." Cana’s seductive smile completely froze.
Mirajane and Lisanna, who were washing dishes nearby, immediately burst into quiet giggles at the swift rejection.
"Shut up, you two!" Cana hissed, her tanned face flushing a deep red.
"But couldn’t you at least spare a few minutes to give us some advice, Finn-sama?" Lisanna asked, turning around.
Unlike Cana’s aggressive sexuality, Lisanna tilted her head, giving him an incredibly sweet, innocent, puppy-dog look. It was a subtle, yet incredibly effective tactic.
"I am not the strongest mage in the world, but I suppose I can offer some advice," Finn sighed, setting his mug down. "What is your magic, Lisanna?"
"...." Cana crossed her arms, thoroughly annoyed that the younger sister got his attention so easily.
"My magic is Take Over!" Lisanna answered happily.
Beside her, Mirajane’s eyes narrowed slightly, paying close attention.
"Oh? The exact same as mine."
"Huh? Really?"
Lisanna blinked in genuine surprise. Mirajane was equally taken aback. Neither of them had actually seen Finn utilize a traditional Take Over.
"Yup."
Without a single chant, glowing magic circle, or dramatic flex of power, Finn simply shifted. For a split second, his arms became massive, razor-sharp falcon wings, and his eyes shifted into golden, predatory slits. Just as quickly as the feathers appeared, they vanished, seamlessly returning him to his normal, human form.
"...."
The three Fairy Tail women were speechless. The transition was so obscenely fluid and instantaneous that it didn’t even feel like he was casting magic. It looked entirely natural, like a biological transformation he was born with.
"If I have to offer one piece of advice regarding Take Over magic," Finn began, resting his chin on his hand, "it’s that instead of constantly trying to hunt down and acquire new, flashy forms, you should deeply study what you already possess."
"Study what I already have?"
"Give me one example of a creature you frequently use," Finn prompted, looking directly at Lisanna.
"Er... Animal Soul: Cat?"
"Then you need to study everything there is to know about a cat. Its biological traits, its natural instincts, its absolute specialties—until you have completely mastered the concept of a feline."
"Does that really make a difference?" Lisanna asked skeptically.
"It does," Finn nodded firmly. "A cat might seem like a weak, mundane animal compared to a monster. But biologically, it possesses some of the best reflexes in nature. It has night vision, a hyper-sensitive sense of smell, and padded paws that allow it to move in absolute, dead silence. A true master could utilize that form to silently assassinate an opponent before they even knew they were under attack."
Finn took another sip of his coffee before continuing. "If you push the concept even further, you could communicate with and command actual felines, turning stray cats across a city into your personal spy network or a coordinated attack squad. The utility is endless."
"O-Oh..."
Lisanna stared at him in a daze. She had never considered her Cat form to be anything more than a quick way to gain sharp claws and a slight speed boost in a brawl.
"Furthermore," Finn added, glancing toward Mirajane, "you should focus your expertise on one specific category at a time. Like your older sister, who specializes exclusively in Demonic Take Over instead of trying to randomly absorb every beast she finds. In this magic, it is far better to be an absolute specialist than a mediocre jack-of-all-trades."
"Are you a specialist, then?" Lisanna asked.
"I am."
"What specific category is your focus?" Mirajane couldn’t help but ask, her curiosity overriding her pride.
Finn met the She-Devil’s gaze calmly. "Avian types. Creatures of the sky."
Mirajane was genuinely surprised that he answered so honestly, but she pressed further. "And what is your strongest form?"
"Angel."
"...."
A heavy silence fell over the kitchen.
"What’s with those looks?" Finn asked, raising an eyebrow.
"N-Nothing!" The Strauss sisters quickly denied this in unison.
Even though Mirajane had literally felt the overwhelming, blinding purity of his holy magic just last night, hearing him bluntly state that his ultimate form was an Angel was deeply jarring. Given his notoriously manipulative, ruthless, and borderline villainous personality, it felt like a joke.
"...It really doesn’t suit you at all," Cana blurted out, lacking the sisters’ filter.
"....." Lisanna and Mirajane facepalmed.
"Whatever you say," Finn replied smoothly, entirely unbothered. He turned his attention to the outspoken brunette. "What about you, Cana? What is your ultimate trump card?"
"Er... Fairy Glitter?"
If there was a pinnacle to Cana’s magical arsenal, it was undeniably the legendary spell she had been granted on Tenrou Island.
"Fairy Glitter?" Finn repeated, genuinely curious.
"It’s one of the Three Great Fairy Magics—the absolute secret spells of our guild."
"...Are you sure it’s okay to just casually tell a Council member about your guild’s top-secret magic?" Finn asked, mildly amused.
"It’s fine. It isn’t like you can use it anyway unless you officially join Fairy Tail," Cana shrugged dismissively.
Cana didn’t see the harm. In Earth Land, mages rarely bothered to hide the mechanics of their signature spells. Everyone had their own unique specialties, and attempting to copy another mage’s complex, high-tier magic from scratch was practically impossible due to the sheer time and biological affinity required.
Unless, of course, a person possessed the mythical ability to instantly copy any magic just by looking at it—which Cana knew was an absurd, nonexistent concept.
Somewhere across the ocean, in the Alvarez Empire, the Spriggan 12’s August suddenly sneezed.
In Hargeon, Finn simply smiled inwardly.
Finn would never openly claim he could copy any magic. However, with the Manager functioning as an omnipotent supercomputer within his mind, the moment he saw, read about, or even conceptualized a spell, the system immediately began running millions of trial-and-error calculations until it synthesized a flawless, ready-to-use version directly into his arsenal.
Still, when Cana proudly elaborated on the mechanics of Fairy Glitter—a merciless, radiant light designed to absolutely "deny the existence" of foes—Finn couldn’t help but feel a twinge of irony.
"So, it’s the ultimate light magic?"
"...It’s far more complicated than that, relying on the combined power of the sun, moon, and stars... but yeah, essentially."
Finn took a long, slow sip of his coffee. He looked Cana up and down—taking in her tanned skin, her messy hair, her skimpy bikini top, and the lingering scent of stale booze radiating off her.
"That holy magic doesn’t suit you at all," Finn deadpanned, effortlessly returning her earlier insult.
Oh, shut the hell up!
Cana’s lips trembled with sheer indignation, but she couldn’t find a comeback. She just glared at him, utterly speechless.
Lisanna and Mirajane, however, burst into genuine laughter. Finn had a point. It was incredibly ironic that a perpetually drunk, foul-mouthed barmaid who walked around half-naked wielded one of the purest, most sacred spells in existence.
"Anyway, to finish my advice to you, Lisanna," Finn said, bringing the conversation back in. "While I believe in specialization, you still need a diverse utility belt. You don’t need a hundred forms, but you need a form specifically adapted for underwater combat, a form for aerial evasion, a form for raw brute strength, and a form to safely incapacitate enemies without killing them."
To Finn, a true grandmaster wasn’t someone who knew every trick in the book, but someone who could perfectly adapt their single specialty to absolutely any situation.
He didn’t view mastering a single element as a weakness. If a Fire Mage was easily defeated by a Water Mage, they were simply an amateur. If that Fire Mage honed their flames to the point where they could generate thrust for flight, create blinding smokescreens, or burn so intensely that the incoming water was instantly vaporized into steam—then that single magic was more than enough to conquer the world.
Finn only specialized in Avian Take Over, yet he was absolutely confident no one could truly defeat him.
Why?
Because absolutely no one could catch him. Defeat meant being pinned down and left entirely at the mercy of an opponent. But with his unparalleled, light-speed aerial mobility, he could effortlessly evade every fatal blow while slowly, methodically bleeding his enemies dry. His victory was always guaranteed.
"As expected, your insight is amazing," Lisanna said, her eyes shining with newfound respect. She leaned forward, pressing her hands together pleadingly. "Please... can you properly train us?"
"....." Finn sighed deeply, realizing he had just talked himself into a corner.
