The Alpha's Unclaimed Mate

Chapter 607: Then Fin Said Her Name

Ronan kissed Natalia.

Serena was wrecked because this wasn’t what Fin wanted. This was what Ronan wanted. Fin wanted nothing to do with her and knowing that and still experiencing this was absolutely gutting her. She wanted Natalia to be with Ronan. Natalia was her. She wanted that soul deep. But the grief that she was experiencing as a passenger was something she couldn’t shut off.

He pulled away and pressed his forehead to hers. "Hey, Serena. I’m here, baby."

It was Fin’s voice.

The shift from Ronan to Fin hit her like whiplash. One second she was being held by a man who had loved her across lifetimes and would never stop. The next she was looking at a man who couldn’t stand to be in the same room as her.

She swallowed, meeting his eyes.

Just Fin. Her Fin. The one who had carried her through portals and held her through panic attacks and told her to get the hell out of his castle.

The one she loved. The one who wished he had never met her.

He was looking at her and the looking was soft and the softness was worse than the anger because it felt borrowed. Unearned. A window that was going to close the second he remembered why he was furious.

That was the part that was destroying her from the inside. Her body wanted to collapse into him the way it always had, the way breathing collapses into lungs, automatic and necessary. But she couldn’t.

She wanted to say something. To tell him she was sorry again. But when she opened her mouth the words wouldn’t come. Instead it was just a broken, ragged breath and hot tears she couldn’t stop.

He wiped them away. When he spoke again, the voice was no longer Fin’s.

"I have loved you across every name the gods have given me. Lucian. Ronan. Finnick. Whatever comes after." His grip on her tightened. "The name changes. The jaw is the same. The stubbornness is the same. And the love is the same, Natalia. It has never once wavered. Not on the gate. Not in death."

He tilted her face up.

"You are afraid he is gone." His eyes searched hers. "You are afraid that what he said was the real him and what I am saying is the ghost. You have it reversed."

His thumb pressed against her cheekbone.

"What he said was the ghost. Fear wearing his face. What I am telling you is the foundation, and the foundation has held for ten thousand years, and it is not going to crack because of a bad night."

His tongue claimed her mouth the way his body already had her name. He kissed like a man who had rehearsed this reunion in silence for lifetimes and would not waste a second of it on anything polite.

Serena felt it happen. She felt her own lips part, felt her own hands slide into his hair, felt her own chest press against his. She was a passenger and she was the driver and the distinction had stopped mattering because the soul behind the wheel was hers and the soul in his arms was hers and the two had been reaching for each other since a balcony where a prince wept and a brother said give me your word.

His hands found the hem of her shirt. His palms flattened against her waist, thumbs dragging the fabric up in increments so small it felt like worship and torture at once. Every inch of new skin he uncovered he mapped, as if confirming she was real and he would not be interrupted this time.

The contact sent a current through her body so total it erased the boundary between observer and participant. She was Natalia. She was Serena. She was every woman whose soul had worn this face and loved this man, and the love was so old it had its own gravity.

He pulled the fabric up. Slow. Reverent. The way a man unwraps something sacred he has been denied for longer than any denial should last. He looked at her the way a starving man looks at a feast he has been forbidden to touch. Then he bent and put his mouth on the underside of her breast, not rushing the peak, just breathing heat into the skin until her spine forgot how to stay on the mattress.

That lasted two seconds before the reverence died. He stripped her like he had been waiting ten thousand years and was done. Then his mouth found her breast again and he sucked hard enough to pull a sound from her, a sound Natalia’s throat remembered and Serena’s mouth had never made.

When he lifted his head his eyes locked onto hers."Say my name. The one you used when this body was already mine."

Her throat worked. "Ronan—"

"Louder. I have waited too long to hear it whispered like you’re ashamed of it."

He bit, not gentle.

"Ronan." It tore out of her.

His groan was the answer.

"Who do you belong to in this life and the last. Say it."

"You."

Her answer was barely out before his mouth was on hers again, kissing her like the word ’you’ had unlocked something he refused to keep leashed.

He moved with her still in his arms, guiding, then pressing, until her spine met the bed and his weight followed, inevitable.

Only then did he lift his head. "Keep that answer. I’m going to make this body repeat it."

He laid her down beneath him with hands that knew the geography. He pinned her wrists above her head. Not gentle. Not asking. His thigh shoved between hers and stayed, forcing her open, holding her there while he looked down at what he had.

She gasped under him surprised by the boldness. Natalia gasped. Her thighs tried to close on instinct and hit the immovable weight of him. Her wrists flexed hard in his grip and her pulse hammered so loud she could hear it in her ears.

"You will not close these legs against me. Not in this life. Not in the next."

Every touch carried the memory of a body that was different and a woman who was the same. His mouth traced the line of her throat, her collarbone, the hollow between her ribs, and each kiss was placed with the careful precision of a man rediscovering a territory he had lost and found and was never going to lose again.
