AIDEN’S POV
Aiden was lost for words.
There was evil here.
What did that even mean.
"What?" Aiden asked.
The man through his well crooked teeth gave an uneasy smile.
"Yes. This mine. Don’t go there. It is evil inside." Aiden looked at him.
For some odd reason the man made him feel uncomfortable.
"What’s your name?" Aiden asked.
"Old Bart." The miner said.
Aiden sniffed him and could tell that he was an old wolf who had never surpassed the rank of Omega.
This place was definitely the most crazy place he had ever been to.
They weren’t just ancient and backward or lazy, they also had senile old men saying that there was evil.
He had seen evil before.
He knew that there was no such thing as evil here.
"Old Bart." Aiden said as he folded his arms. "Why do you say there is evil."
"Are you familiar with the old tale?" Old Bart asked. "The truth of how we wolves came to be."
Aiden rolled his eyes.
Who wasn’t?
The ridiculous stories they were told to frighten them of how the first Alpha had become so evil, he had been locked away into an unknown kingdom by all the founding packs.
Aiden shrugged. "The myth."
"It’s not a myth my lord." Old Barth snickered in offense. "It’s the truth. You’re looking for moonstone aren’t you?"
That caught Aiden off guard.
Moonstone?
What did this old man know about that.
No one knew of the suspicion that moonstone was here.
It was simply one of the mines where they mined coals until some of the miners had encountered a trail of jewels.
Jewels that hadn’t been found in so long.
As for the moonstone, only proper research had been conducted for there to even be a belief that it existed within these mines.
Especially since it was literally extinct.
"What do you know about moonstone?" Aiden asked. "Who told you that."
"Don’t go digging My Lord." Old Bart said shaking his head sympathetically.
His almost bald hair moving with the sway of his head.
"It would be your doom." Old Bart said.
"Is that old Bart?" Someone shouted.
Aiden turned back and saw one of the Betas coming behind him.
The other wolves scowled.
"What the hell are you doing here?" It was Leo.
Old Bart’s face screwed up.
"Crazy old Bart." Someone else said.
"How the hell did you even get here?" Leo asked puzzled.
Leo whistled before even getting a response.
Two Betas came immediately.
"Get him out of here before he hurts himself or someone else." Leo said.
The two betas nodded and led the old man away.
Aiden watched in amusement as the man was led away.
"My lord." Leo said louder, making Aiden jump.
Aiden had no idea he had been staring at Old Bart for so long until he had disappeared.
"Is everything okay?" Leo asked.
Aiden felt strange goosebumps on his arms.
"What did he say?" Leo asked his hand in his waist. "Anyways it doesn’t matter. Whatever he says, it’s just crazy talk. You can’t believe whatever he says."
"Who is he?" Aiden asked trying to sound indifferent.
He hated how this strange man had made an impact on him.
Making him feel uncomfortable.
He has been to so many pack wars and rarely felt such way and yet a crazy old man who was covered in dirt had somehow managed to make him feel insane.
He hoped that there was no moonstone in this pack so that he could get the hell out of here.
"He is the pack clown." Leo said with a shrug. "No one knows much about him except he lives on his own and is always where he shouldn’t be. He is actually harmless, just don’t let him get under your skin."
Aiden pursed his lips and decided to let it go.
"They’re here." Leo signified.
Two miners came up to them and bowed.
"I thought you were three." Aiden said confused at the men who remained standing before him.
"We are." One of the miners, a wolf probably in his late thirties said. "But the third one amongst us fell ill."
Aiden furrowed his brows and nodded.
They all walked to the foot of the mine.
"Lead the way then." Aiden prodded.
The men nodded and went in, Aiden was about to step in when Leo stopped in.
"You shouldn’t go in just yet. About two of us would go ahead then you can follow." Leo said.
Aiden sighed and agreed.
Leo and another Beta went in.
Aiden was about to step in when he remembered Aston.
He turned back to me. "Aren’t you supposed to go in and secure the place?"
"I’ll secure you from behind." Aston said.
Aiden disliked the boy.
Very much.
He was too irritated to handle him.
When he got back to the pack house, then he would face him.
They went down the path, trying their best to avoid tumbling against the rocks.
Aiden perceived the energy in the mine and he had to admit that it was quite different and strange.
After going through the dark tunnels, they came to the where the jewels were.
Aiden picked up one of the jewels from the floor and sniffed.
It was a jewel quite alright, but it was smeared with something else.
"There is more of that my lord." The second miner said.
"Where are the rest of you?" Aiden asked.
"We were told to all go back home and halt mining until we received word to resume." He responded looking frightened.
Aiden walked to the wall of the stones that lay blocking the way.
He picked up one.
It was Iron ore.
His wolf howled without control.
By the time his wolf had calmed, Aiden was hundred percent sure there was something beyond the stones.
Something more than just rocks.
Which meant that he could not return home for now at least.
He turned to Leo.
"Keep on digging." He instructed. "Word of the mines would not travel beyond anyone mining and those watching the mines."
Moonstone.
It was here.
