"Arcane Resonance" triggered. You choose the 1st-level Wizard evocation spells "Thunderwave" and "Jim's Magic Missile."

[Druidic]: You learn Druidic, the secret language of druids. As you learn this ancient language, you also unlock the magic to speak with animals: you always have the "Speak with Animals" spell prepared.

[Primal Order]: Magician.

You learn the "Starry Wisp" cantrip.

In addition, your mystical connection with nature grants you a bonus to Intelligence (Arcana and Nature) checks equal to your Wisdom modifier, currently +5.

[Wild Shape]: The magic of nature allows you to assume the form of a beast.

You instantly transform into a beast form you have learned and remain in that form for a number of hours equal to half your Druid level, or until you use Wild Shape again, become incapacitated, or die.

Current Uses: 2.

Known Forms: Deer, Panther, Spider, Rat, Dragonkind.

[Wild Companion]: You can summon a nature spirit in animal form to aid you.

You can expend a spell slot or one use of Wild Shape to cast "Find Familiar" without any material components.

...

'Huh?' Anser froze for a moment.

Things had turned out a little differently than expected. His Wild Shape was unlike the usual version—it actually had an additional Dragonkind form.

He opened his Character Sheet and discovered that "Dragonkind Transformation" under his supernatural abilities had changed.

Opening its description, he found that he had gained the ability to transform into any kind of dragonkind, including kobolds, faerie dragons, half-dragons, pseudodragons, chromatic dragons, metallic dragons, gem dragons, and more, ranging in size from Tiny to Large.

After transforming, he also gained temporary Hit Points equal to his level while retaining his full Spellcasting ability.

'Now this is a true Dragonkind Transformation!'

At his current stage, he could transform into a young dragon, which happened to match the growth stage of "I Too Am a True Dragon."

However, aside from half-dragon and metallic dragon forms, which could freely switch to humanoid form as a supernatural ability, all the other forms consumed uses of Wild Shape and had a limited duration.

After all, his true body was a humanoid variant metallic dragon.

'This is way cooler than turning into an owlbear. It's basically like getting the Circle of Dragons subclass for free.' Anser was overjoyed.

Druids had a unique subclass known as the Circle of Dragons, which allowed them to transform into a dragon at level 2.

'Other people turn from humans into dragons. I'm a dragon turning into another dragon. It couldn't be easier.'

Just imagine—a young gold dragon with Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma, and Hit Points even more outrageous than those of an ordinary dragon, along with class features, Feats, and spells that dragons didn't possess...

'What an unexpected bonus.'

He had originally been drawn to the Druid's versatility: the ability to transform freely, summon creatures, cast spells, and boast strong survivability, all while expanding his spellcasting options.

The Druid spell list wasn't among the very best, but Druids cast spells the same way Clerics and Paladins did: through prepared Spellcasting, gaining their spellcasting ability by sensing the mysterious power of nature through Wisdom.

He could freely use more than twenty 1st-level spells. He only needed to prepare them alongside his Paladin spells whenever he meditated.

'This transformation alone has already made the investment worthwhile.'

For his Feat, he chose "Ability Score Improvement," raising his Dexterity to 15 and making up for that weakness a little.

'Which subclass should I choose?'

Druid subclasses were distinguished by their differing philosophies of nature, forming unique circles around them.

The Circle of the Land celebrated the natural world and possessed the strongest spellcasting ability.

The Circle of the Moon channeled lunar magic and was exceptionally powerful while transformed.

The Circle of the Sea wielded the wild natural forces of the world's oceans and storms and was renowned for its elemental destructive power.

The Circle of the Stars explored the secrets of the constellations and possessed a unique Starry Form, empowering themselves through different constellations while also having just a tiny bit of divinatory ability.

There was also the summoning-focused Circle of the Shepherd, the fungal-bodied Circle of Spores, the Circle of Wildfire that rose anew from the flames, the ancient and traditional Circle of Dragons, and others.

'My Spellcasting is way stronger than a Druid's. The Circle of the Moon's Wild Shape enhancements can't compare to my Dragonkind Transformation, and Starry Form conflicts with Wild Shape...'

After considering it for a while, he decided on the relatively uncommon Circle of Wildfire.

Druids of the Circle of Wildfire understood that destruction was sometimes the precursor to creation, just as a forest fire fostered the growth that followed. Its philosophy was very similar to the Elemental Oath Paladin's creed of "build through destruction, reshape and renew."

Spell bombardment started a forest fire? That was nature's choice. No need to feel the slightest bit guilty about it.

The Circle of Wildfire could forge a soul-deep connection with a primal wildfire spirit embodying both creation and destruction, strengthening destructive and healing spells. At level 14, they gained "Blazing Revival," allowing them to return from the dead!

'I wonder if this thing can grow stronger?'

Anser brought up his Druid Character Sheet and rapidly clicked through the class options. He selected the Circle of Wildfire as his subclass, and experience points began draining from his experience pool like water.

...

[Level Up: Level 4 Druid!]

[You gain the Circle of Wildfire features: "Circle Spells" and "Summon Wildfire Spirit."]

[You gain a new Feat. You can learn two Evocation spells and one cantrip.]

[Circle Spells]: You have formed a mystical connection with a primal being that embodies both creation and destruction, through which you learn certain spells.

You always have these spells prepared, and they do not count against the number of spells you can prepare each day.

1st-Level Spells: "Hellish Rebuke," "Healing Word"

2nd-Level Spells: "Aganazzar's Scorcher," "Prayer of Healing"

[Summon Wildfire Spirit]: You summon a primal spirit bound to your soul.

When the spirit appears, each creature within 10 feet (3 meters) of it other than you must make a Dexterity Saving Throw against your spell save DC. On a failed save, the creature takes 2d6 (2–12) fire damage.

The Wildfire Spirit is friendly to you and your companions and obeys your commands. It remains for 1 hour, and you determine its appearance.

For his new Feat, he once again chose "Ability Score Improvement," continuing to raise his Dexterity.

Once his Dexterity reached the mortal limit, he could Multiclass into Monk or Rogue.

For his two 2nd-level Evocation spells, he chose "Melf's Acid Arrow" and "Spiritual Weapon," along with the "Magic Stone" cantrip.

Once everything was selected, Anser confirmed his choices!

A dense current of nature magic gently swirled around him as countless insights and pieces of knowledge about transforming living creatures flowed through his mind.

The space around him distorted slightly, and a large bird wreathed in crimson flames appeared out of thin air. It resembled a raven, but had a colorful crest, a wingspan of more than a meter, a body nearly a meter long, and a plump, rounded build.

As soon as the firebird appeared, the flames covering its body surged several meters high, roaring violently and distorting the air with their heat. Its presence steadily intensified, becoming thoroughly oppressive.

Several minutes passed before the firebird finally settled down. Its body became slender and streamlined, its tail feathers grew long, and its appearance took on a faint metallic quality. Blue-white flames, almost solid in their intensity, flickered across its body.

Anser opened his eyes, a glimmer of blue-white flame reflected in his pupils.

'So this is my Wildfire Spirit. Why does it seem a little different?'

He checked the dice and, sure enough, saw a separate Character Sheet. The moment he opened it, he was startled.

The Wildfire Spirit's stats were far above the baseline. This was nowhere near the level of power a level 4 Druid should possess.

It didn't take him long to figure out what was going on.

Primal spirits were unusual. Its connection to him was far closer than an ordinary contract, placing them in a state of deep soul binding. Its strength was also intimately tied to his own.

It possessed Intelligence, but no independent personality, existing entirely through Anser.

For example, its "Flame Seed" ability used Anser's spell attack, and its damage scaled the same way.

'Not bad. This is more useful than a familiar.'

Familiars needed to be trained and nurtured. A primal spirit didn't.
