"Let’s go." Chu Ge said to him, "Old Gang Leader, be careful, make sure you don’t get hit by a Fireball."

He had just tested it; the temperature of these Fireballs was way higher than normal flames. Getting hit wouldn’t break bones or tear muscles, but the pain of scorched skin was nothing to scoff at.

The Old Gang Leader nodded, grumbling, "I really don’t know what kind of mechanism Wei Yongxiang set up here when he left back then, making it such a damn hassle for us just to find a cave entrance now."

Chu Ge didn’t know how to respond, but in his heart he was starting to see this Wei Yongxiang in a new light.

The Old Gang Leader seemed to think of something. He hurried to catch up with Chu Ge and asked, "You just said these Refraction Mirrors here aren’t naturally formed, but man-made, right?"

Chu Ge found it a bit odd. "Old Gang Leader, you spent the whole way nagging that Wei Yongxiang is so bad, even set such a big puzzle for you when he left. How come now you’re starting to doubt it again?"

The Old Gang Leader was momentarily speechless; he just wasn’t entirely sure.

"Forget it, let’s keep going."

As he spoke, a Fireball suddenly shrieked past the Old Gang Leader’s ear. Because of the angle, it scorched his earlobe.

The Old Gang Leader cried out in pain and clutched his ear. "Damn, I must’ve used up eight lifetimes of bad luck today! Even my ear got burned!"

Chu Ge raised his hand. A ball of True Qi condensed in his palm; he struck toward the direction the Fireball had just come from. With a crisp crack, another Refraction Mirror was shattered to pieces.

He stepped forward and looked at the Old Gang Leader’s ear. The burn was more serious than the one on his arm; he could already see the flesh inside.

"Looks like we’re closer to the Volcano."

Not only had the ambient temperature risen, even the Fireballs’ heat had gone up quite a bit.

The Old Gang Leader was still hissing and grimacing from the pain. He didn’t dare touch his earlobe, and without a mirror he couldn’t even see what it looked like now.

"These old bones of mine really aren’t meant to enjoy blessings. So old already, and still have to suffer this kind of torment. It’s all that Wei Yongxiang’s fault!"

The Old Gang Leader cursed.

Chu Ge was still curious in his heart. "Old Gang Leader, are you really sure all these mechanisms here were set up by Wei Yongxiang?"

"If not him, then who? When he left back then, he triggered a pretty big war and brought such disasters to our Daye Country. Him, even slicing him a thousand times wouldn’t ease my hatred!"

Whenever Wei Yongxiang was mentioned, anger surged up in the Old Gang Leader’s heart.

Chu Ge chuckled softly. "Actually, if Wei Yongxiang had used his intelligence and talent on the right path, he would definitely have become a generation’s overlord."

"Overlord? I say he’s more like a cowardly bear."

The Old Gang Leader snorted. "He was indeed very smart, I won’t deny that. He did bring a period of prosperity to our Daye Country back then. But he couldn’t resist his ambition. Yes, he benefited us, but he also brought calamity upon us. We can’t just because he once handed us a sweet date, forget that later he stabbed us in the back!"

Chu Ge said nothing, quietly listening to the Old Gang Leader.

"I know people from your side would say we’re ungrateful, but if you’d seen the impact he had on us that year, you wouldn’t say that."

"If it were just the impact on me alone, fine, I’m just an old codger, it doesn’t matter. But the common folk are not his test subjects. He can’t gamble with the people’s safety!"

Listening to the Old Gang Leader’s accusations against Wei Yongxiang, it was clear his resentment toward Wei Yongxiang ran deep.

He didn’t know what Wei Yongxiang had done back then, so he couldn’t experience or understand the Old Gang Leader’s current feelings and Heart Sutra.

He didn’t know how to judge it, so he could only choose silence.

The Old Gang Leader lifted his eyes to look at Chu Ge, a hint of pondering in his gaze. "Chu Ge, in your Time-Space, have you ever heard the name Wei Yongxiang?"

Chu Ge nodded and answered honestly, "I have."

"I bet his conduct over there isn’t great either, right?" the Old Gang Leader asked. "Is he also full of ambition, dreaming of dominating your country?"

Chu Ge couldn’t help but laugh and shook his head. "Where we are is not quite like what you imagine. Even if he wanted to dominate the country, he’d have to actually have the ability."

"Oh?" The Old Gang Leader sounded puzzled. "There are actually things he can’t do?"

"There is always a higher Heaven beyond this Heaven, and other people beyond any person. Besides, he’s not an immortal—how could he possibly succeed at everything?"

Chu Ge lifted his gaze toward the direction of the Volcano. They had walked for so long, and finally the distance had shortened.

Because he was eager to find the Time-Space Gate, Chu Ge didn’t want to talk more. He cut off the Old Gang Leader’s train of thought and said, "Old Gang Leader, we’d better keep moving."

Honestly, he really was worried that if they stayed out too long, something would happen back at the military camp. Even though Feng Luo hadn’t asked much, he still felt uneasy relying on her cover. That little girl had quite a temper; if someone pissed her off, she might really cause trouble.

They weren’t afraid whether the trouble was big or small; they were only afraid their plan would be exposed—especially exposed to the Prince!

Chu Ge hurried along, not noticing that the look the Old Gang Leader gave him from behind had become a bit strange.

Chu Ge had cleared quite a few Refraction Mirrors. When he looked back the way they’d come, the path was long; standing halfway up the mountain, he could no longer see the place where they had landed.

Suddenly, Chu Ge felt a gaze fixed on him from the side. He turned his head to look at the Old Gang Leader and asked in puzzlement, "Old Gang Leader, are you okay? Why are you looking at me like that?"

There was a hint of anger in the Old Gang Leader’s eyes as he looked at Chu Ge. From the start, Chu Ge had felt something was off about him.

"Why am I looking at you like this? If it weren’t for you, Feng Luo and I wouldn’t be here suffering!"

The Old Gang Leader glared at Chu Ge in anger.

Chu Ge was even more confused. "Old Gang Leader, that’s a bit unfair. It’s true you came because of me, but I didn’t force you to come, did I?"

If you really wanted to go into it, it was actually the Old Gang Leader who insisted he come!

Chu Ge didn’t say that out loud though. He kept feeling the Old Gang Leader’s eyes were a bit vacant, hollow inside, like they’d been fixed by something.

Chu Ge immediately grew alert. The Old Gang Leader’s mind had been tampered with! That thought popped up in his head. He stepped back, watching him warily. "Old Gang Leader, you..."

He paused, his mind whirling rapidly. "Old Gang Leader, what exactly is your relationship with Wei Yongxiang?"

At the mention of Wei Yongxiang, the Old Gang Leader’s eyes clearly turned red. He ground his teeth and said, "He and I have an irreconcilable blood feud!"

All at once, the Old Gang Leader’s vicious gaze locked onto Chu Ge. "What’s your relationship with Wei Yongxiang? Are you close with him?"

Chu Ge shook his head. "I don’t know him. You’re the one who told me this name."
