"Are you serious?" Hu Fei’s face changed, finally realizing how grave the situation was.
"Our current predicament is very unfavorable. The Dragon Tiger Hall is already pushed to the cliff’s edge and could fall off at any moment. To get through this crisis, we must combine everyone’s strength."
"Alright." Hu Fei nodded and said, "Since you say so, I’ll do as you suggest. However, you better be clear on the consequences of this action, or we might not even be able to keep this base."
"I don’t have time to think about that now, just do it."
"Okay." After speaking, Hu Fei stood up, took a key from the drawer, and walked to the iron door at one corner of the main control room. He opened the door to reveal a row of switches embedded in the wall. After inputting a code and verifying fingerprints and retinal scan, a red button popped up. Hu Fei turned to glance at Ling Chen, who nodded slightly.
With the pressing of the red button, green light immediately illuminated the top of the main control room. Watching the light overhead, all the technical staff in the main control room were momentarily stunned, each looking at the others in confusion.
After a while, everyone came to their senses, hurriedly got up from their seats, and ran toward the storage boxes on the side. Each technician had their own storage box. After entering the password, each took out something resembling a hard drive and plugged it into their computers.
Watching the busy technicians, Hu Fei returned to his computer station, put on his headset, and took a deep breath.
Ling Chen turned his head to glance at Hu Fei beside him and noticed his eyes were slightly red. He couldn’t help but ask, "What’s wrong with you? What’s there to be sad about?"
"Nothing, nothing." Hu Fei squeezed out a smile and said, "I’m just excited. I’ve always wondered when I could take some big action, and I didn’t expect the opportunity to come so soon."
Hearing this, how could Ling Chen not understand what he meant? Level-5 alert; when they took down the God Organization, they had discussed the defense level of the base. Level-5 alert was just a suggestion from Hu Fei at the time, and Ling Chen found it interesting, so he agreed. However, they never thought they would actually use Level-5 alert.
The so-called Level-5 alert means having the entire city under their control, with all resources managed by them. Now is the internet age, and everything can be controlled through networks. But activating Level-5 alert requires hacking into various systems’ networks to gain control, which is undoubtedly illegal.
However, to tackle this crisis, Ling Chen had no choice. On the way, he had already contacted the military’s top level via the old general. Because he had a good reason, his actions had been tacitly approved from above. He just didn’t tell Hu Fei about it. He knew this guy too well; if Hu Fei found out, he would certainly act recklessly.
"The station system has been connected!"
"The airport system has been connected!"
"The transportation system has been connected!"
"..."
Soon, hundreds of surveillance screens appeared on the main control room’s big screen. Ling Chen stood by for a while, seeing everything fall into place, he nodded and said, "Fatty, I’ll leave this place to you. Inform me as soon as there’s any news."
"Don’t worry, I won’t let you down."
"Then I’m off." With that, Ling Chen turned and walked out of the main control room. At the doorway, Ling Chen turned back and reminded him, "Remember, be extremely cautious and make sure nothing goes wrong."
He repeatedly emphasized this because Level-5 alert involved a very confidential authority, and he was really worried that Hu Fei might misuse it.
"Got it, I’m not a three-year-old kid." Despite his words, Hu Fei’s eyes were filled with barely contained excitement.
...
Two days passed.
The Heavenly Dragon Sect’s three major forces had not made any further moves, but Ling Chen knew this was just the calm before the storm.
At nine in the morning, Ling Chen made some brief preparations and then headed out alone.
"Ling Chen, are you really going to the meeting?" At this moment, Tong Zhentian came up from behind and stopped Ling Chen.
Ling Chen nodded and said, "Why not? Maybe I can get some information out of him."
Tong Zhentian, uneasy, asked, "Do you want some people to go with you? I’m worried you might be in danger."
"No need, this is my territory. I don’t believe he’d dare to make a move against me, unless he wants to leave his own life in East Sea City." With that, Ling Chen waved his hand, got into the car by himself, and left.
After over twenty minutes of driving, Ling Chen arrived at his destination. It was the same teahouse as last time. Ling Chen went to the private room on the second floor and lightly knocked on the door. Hearing the word "come in" from inside, he pushed open the door and saw a person sitting inside — none other than Tian Xiong, whom he had met not long ago.
During their last meeting, they agreed to meet again in a week. Although only seven days had passed, a lot had happened in between.
"Mr. Tian, long time no see."
Tian Xiong said with a half-smile, "Not that long, is it? Mr. Ling, you seem to have lost quite a bit of weight in just a few days."
Ling Chen slowly sat in the chair and looked at Tian Xiong, saying, "Why ask the unnecessary? Don’t you already know the reason?" After a pause, he continued, "I must admit I underestimated you, or rather, underestimated your Dark Pavilion."
Tian Xiong smiled and said, "I told you back then, never underestimate the capabilities of the Dark Pavilion. Otherwise, you’ll only end up paying the price." Then, switching the topic, Tian Xiong asked, "Mr. Ling, we talked last time, and I gave you a week to consider. What have you decided?"
Ling Chen picked up the teacup in front of him, took a sip, and said calmly, "Mr. Tian, what do you want me to say? Your Dark Pavilion has already formed an alliance with Heavenly Dragon Sect, and aren’t you preparing to unite with the Heavenly Dragon Sect and the Dangyang Sect to take down the Dragon Tiger Hall?"
"Mr. Ling, I think you’re mistaken. The Dark Pavilion has no intention of becoming enemies with Dragon Tiger Hall. You’ve also seen the trouble the Heavenly Dragon Sect and Dangyang Sect plan to bring to you. Now, you have to cooperate with us to avert the crisis for Dragon Tiger Hall. Mr. Ling, even if you don’t think for yourself, consider the others in the Dragon Tiger Hall. Would you really want to...
