The Bee Dungeon

The First Bumbledryad Queen flew through one of the shortcuts, emerging into a world of light and color. The entire sky was as bright as the sun and was as colorful as a field of flowers. Her hive-flower had been adding new plants to the hive and the new plants said this place had the best light in King-Father’s hive! First Bumbledryad spread out her wings…and immediately discovered they were right, so she was happy! Light of every color and wavelength flood her leaf-wings, stirring every cell in her wings to make honey, making her happy!

And this light, in particular, was filled to the brim with Light mana too! First Bumbledryad felt her mana surge, overflowing beyond what her body could hold. Which was great! The extra all went to her hive-flower and made it grow! She could feel new branches start to bud off its stem, soon her hive-flower would have several flowers!

She was very happy!

The shiny little sisters flew by and greeted her, she happily zipped around them. They asked her again if she needed any honey, but she had lots of honey! The little sisters were all so nice, it made her happy! They seemed worried that they weren’t giving her honey, but they were already giving her lots! They were visiting all the flowers her hive-flower was connecting to, making them all happy!

Making them so happy that First Bumbledryad Queen wanted to make the little sisters happy in turn…and soon, she’d be able to!

She spent the better part of the day absorbing light and mana from the colorful room until she finally had enough. She flew back to her hive-flower, greeting her bee-queen-mother and her big sisters along the way! Her bee-queen-mother was very happy to see her, so she was happy!

Then, she arrived back at her hive-flower and rolled around, covering herself in glowing pollen, and making sure the pollen had the special mana her hive-flower got from its god-queen-mothers! Once all of her hair-leaves held pollen, she took off and began to travel through the King-Father’s hive.

She arrived at the first forest King-Father had ever grown, where fruit trees grew in straight lines. The little sisters were hovering around the fruit trees, buzzing with worry. First Bumbledryad Queen watched them dance through empress sister’s mana.

“Tree…not evolve yet?”

“Still same, thought was going to change but hasn’t.”

“No new trees either. Taking long…”

First Bumbledryad landed on one of the trees the little sisters were worried about. She rolled around in the flowers of the trees, dropping off the glowing pollen from her hive-flower. The pollen sank into the tree and the tree’s mana mixed with First Bumbledryad’s own. From there, she reached through the tree’s roots, into the ground and the rivers of mana flowing there. The Conduit-Sister, the big sister of all the sisters, felt her. First Bumbledryad danced hello and the Conduit-Sister danced back, so she was happy!

She then reached through the rivers of the King’s hive’s mana until she found the roots of her hive-flower. She touched the roots, and so touched the tree’s mana to her hive-flower’s, connecting the tree to her hive! Now her hive-flower could talk to the tree and help it grow!

She checked on the tree to find out what was wrong…and found out the tree wasn’t really a tree! It was made of the mana of King-Father’s hive, part of the ground of this room! It was hard for it to change without King-Father’s help.

In fact, she could tell now that all of the trees in the room were the same! King-Father and the little sisters had planted some new, real trees, but those hadn’t grown yet. Trees liked to take their time, after all!

But First Bumbledryad didn’t want the little sisters to worry, so she decided to help.

She reached into her hive-flower’s memories and found the seeds of the same fruit trees that grew in this forest. She took some of the glowing pollen on her body and started rubbing it, until it took the shape of the seed. Then, she put that seed into the tree that was now part of her hive.

The seed melted into the tree’s mana and spread through its body. The mana that made the tree started to condense, the bark became real bark, the wood became real wood. The flowers stopped being mana core that just made nectar, and became real flowers! The tree started growing again, and would now be able to change without King-Father’s help!

The tree now had feelings, so it could be happy! It could change, so the little sisters would be happy! And then First Bumbledryad would be happy too!

First Bumbledryad then flew over to new trees King-Father and the little sisters had planted. Most of them were still seeds, so she couldn’t add them to her hive just yet, but one of them was already a sapling! A gift from the fair sisters, a tea tree that had lots of mana in it!

It didn’t have flowers yet, though, so First Bumbledryad couldn’t use the pollen. Instead, she dove down into the ground, her chitin turning into a root to tunnel through. She dug down into she found the sapling’s roots and tapped her antennae against them. Little fuzzy mycelium reached out from her antennae and wrapped around the roots, letting her find the sapling’s mana and lead it to her hive-flower once more.

Then she started to feed it her honey, helping it grow bigger and faster! Her hive-flower had already done this to help the flowers around it grow, back before she had been born, but now she could help it even more! The tree would grow fast and make King-Father and the little sisters happy! Her hive-flower was really happy too, it had only helped grow flower so far, but it wanted to grow trees! Their fair-queen-mother, the queen-mother that had gone to the Hive of All Forests, had really wanted that, so she and her hive-flower wanted that too! First Bumbledryad Queen was happy she could help now!

She fed the sapling as much honey as it could drink for today, then dug back up out of the ground. She reached out for her hive-flower and felt through its roots, dug right into the rivers of King-Father’s hive’s mana. She listened and watched through the flowers and the roots and the mushrooms, looking for more dances by King-Father and the little sisters and the bear sisters and the fair sisters. She looked for more places she could make them happy.

And she found one! Some fair sisters were talking to the little sisters about new trees, trees that were supposed to grow really big! First Bumbledryad Queen watched them dance together.

“The great trees can handle any soil fertility, actually. Their roots will spread far, so they can make up for it with area. What they really need is high mana density, the Great Forest used to have the greatest concentration of Nature mana in the world…”

“Can grow in King’s fair forest?”

“A nexus forest? That would be a start, at the least. But to grow them outside, in the land of mortals…I think we will need to plant mana flowers first. The mana concentration out there just isn’t enough…”

First Bumbledryad Queen felt a jolt of mana from her hive-flower and she immediately began zipping around in happy circles. Amazing! Incredible! Her hive-flower knew the big trees the fair sisters wanted to plant! They were the trees her fair-queen-mother wanted them to plant the most! Her fair-queen-mother would have been really happy if she knew they grew again, especially in the Beyond!

And it sounded like they needed First Bumbledryad Queen’s help!

First Bumbledryad Queen zipped back to her home, flying right to her hive-flower. She climbed down in the nest King-Father had made for her among the roots of her hive-flower and crawled over to one of the walls. The biggest root her hive-flower had snaked through the wall and started to grow bigger as she approached. Big bulges formed in the root, turning into wax-pots.

First Bumbledryad Queen started to lay eggs in the pots. Her hive-flower’s roots couldn’t reach out into the Beyond right now, it just hadn’t grown strong enough yet. First Bumbledryad Queen couldn’t fly out there either, she had to stay within range of her hive-flowers roots.

But what she could do was raise workers, which would be able to fly further than her! If those workers could reach flowers in the Beyond, they might be able to connect them to her hive-flower and add them to the hive! Then, she could fly out into the Beyond!

And she and her hive-flower could help the flowers there grow and make more mana, so the little sisters and fair sisters could plant the big trees!

Then everyone, her hive-flower, her, all her queen mothers, all her little sisters, her flower and tree hive, all the fair sisters, and her King-Father, would all be happy!
