The grades are just average. Due to being new here, worrying about many things, and taking a trip back home disrupting my studies, this semester’s grades can only be described as barely passable, struggling to even reach moderately above average.
She was quite troubled: "Sigh, I think I’ve been very diligent. Except for Christmas, I’ve never slept more than 5 hours. Besides exercising, I don’t have any other entertainment activities, and I’ve spent all my time on studying. Yet, I still can’t keep up with those top students. It’s really frustrating... You don’t know, some extraordinary people only sleep two or three hours a day... I can’t stand it..."
"Now you see the difference, right? Don’t worry, take it slow. My expectations of you aren’t high, as long as you can pass smoothly."
Her eyebrows raised: "Back when I was studying at university in my home country, I thought I was super impressive, unbeatable in the world. But upon arriving, it was really mind-blowing to see that there are always people better than you, and it really hit my confidence..."
"Having self-awareness is a good thing, but don’t rush it. Take it slow."
"Oh, right. I have to go to school tomorrow. Brother Donglin, I can only come back to accompany you after class."
"No rush, I also have some things to handle."
This was the first time Yan Xixi eagerly awaited the end of class, and as soon as time was up, she dashed out.
Someone brushed past her and smiled: "Miss, why are you running so fast?"
She laughed cheerfully, very excited. This was the first time someone was waiting for her after class.
"Miss, accompany me on a walk, be my guide."
The night at South Country University, the lights were bright.
The library, corridors, cafeteria... Everywhere, there were students studying. Everyone rushed about, too busy for gossip or rumors, and showing off wealth or luxury goods wasn’t popular. Here, everyone was focused on learning.
She whispered: "Brother Donglin, you don’t know how exaggerated it is. Before exams, I tried going to the library. But those people were so extreme, studying until four or five in the morning and still not leaving. Whenever they felt sleepy, they just reclined on the chair for a moment, and then continued studying after waking up. I tried it for two days, couldn’t hold on, and went back... It’s nothing like back home, where college students totally treat university years as a holiday..."
Wan Donglin was indifferent: "That’s always how it is at Harvard; otherwise, why would I send you here? Back then when I first came here, I thought I was smart and impressive, only to find out that because my coursework preparation wasn’t solid, I couldn’t even participate in discussions, feeling like a country bumpkin. Later, for two years, I practically lived in the library, often falling asleep in the cafeteria after meals, just to catch up..."
Yan Xixi let out a long breath: "I really didn’t expect..."
"Always thought I was a big fool?"
She laughed cheerfully.
"Brother Donglin, didn’t you say the Empress Dowager was coming? When is she coming?"
"Don’t worry, she’ll come when she’s ready. Probably doesn’t want to disturb us, you know her nature."
"Does the Empress Dowager also come by private jet?"
"She takes a commercial flight."
"Why doesn’t she use a private jet herself?"
"The Empress Dowager has never liked such pomp. However, Xixi, whenever you come back in the future, you must wait for the private jet to pick you up. If no one is picking you up, you must not act on your own. Understand?"
Yan Xixi thought it was for her own protection. It was much later that she understood that every flight of a private jet costs tens of thousands. Even though Empress Dowager Liu never indulged in excess, she spared no expense for Xixi.
