Anma Mountain lies to the north of the Capital City, resembling a sleeping ox.
The lush forest and ancient cypresses create a somber silhouette as the mountain’s contours appear layered and overlapping in the twilight.
The mountain wind sweeps through the woods, bringing with it a low mourning sound, rustling the fallen leaves. The winding path, largely overgrown by wild grass, exudes desolation.
At this moment, Li Yan, Wang Daoxuan, Sha Lifei, Kong Shangzhao, Long Yan’er, Lv San, Kuai Dayou, and Wu Ba, along with Ah Shi carefully protected in the middle, are hiding deep in the dense broadleaf forest on the western side of Anma Mountain.
They are lying on a thick layer of fallen leaves, using rugged mountain rocks and thick tree trunks for cover, their gaze piercing through the gaps in the branches, cast towards the distant architectural ruins.
This was the former site of the Monk Soldier Hall mentioned by Black Tomb.
Although abandoned for years, with wild grass growing amidst the ruins and rubble scattered everywhere, beneath the silence lies a tension that subtly evokes unease.
"Mr. Dan Yu..."
Li Yan lowered his voice, scanning the ruins, "What’s the history of this Monk Soldier Hall? Why is the entrance to High Heaven hidden here?"
Beside him, Tanui Nagashige looked serious, also lowering his voice, "This is Anma Mountain. It is said that a thousand years ago, Emperor Huanwu established Ping’an City as the capital. To subdue the evil aura around the Royal City, he dispatched powerful monks to build places to ward off demons at famous mountains around the borders."
"Anma Mountain is one of the ’guardian mountains’ protecting the northern frontier, and the Monk Soldier Hall was where Dharma Guardian Monks practiced and trained in those days."
He paused, a trace of reminiscence flashing in his eyes: "This place guards the crucial northern passage to the Capital City. With its magnificent mountain forms and peculiar earth veins, legends have long said that the mountain harbors ’spiritual acupoints’, capable of connecting to the Netherworld."
"Jianmu and Yin Yang Hall chose this place not by accident. I conjecture, firstly, using the residual Buddhist Law’s sealing power of this ancient temple, they can conceal the immense Yin Sha Power flowing beneath, making it less likely to be detected by outsiders; secondly, this place was already one of the nodes that historically connected some kind of ’boundary’, with its earth veins interlinked with High Heaven. The Kamo family, who have long mastered Yin Yang Hall, are well-versed in such secrets. Thirdly, there must be a vast and complex ancient structure beneath the Monk Soldier Hall, providing an excellent cover and foundation for modifying and establishing an entrance to High Heaven."
Wang Daoxuan, hearing this, furrowed his brows tightly, habitually rubbing the Turtle Shell Compass, the needle trembling slightly beneath his fingertips, not pointing to a clear direction, but presenting a chaotic vortex.
The Daoist pondered and said, "What Mr. Nagashige said is very true. The Evil Qi here... is extremely peculiar. On the surface, it’s silent, but inside it’s like a boiling oil pot, hidden with overwhelming and aggressive Qi, accompanied by a... indescribable sense of distortion."
"And..."
He raised his head, his eyes serious, "The guardians of this place are by no means ordinary."
The group focused their eyes and senses.
The ruins of the Monk Soldier Hall appeared empty, but with their eye power and perception, they quickly detected clues:
There was a very faint reflection flashing briefly behind a broken window lattice—a hidden observation hole; several corners looked collapsed, yet were excessively shaded, almost stationary—obviously ninjas wearing specially made stealth suits, breathing slowly and steadily; even further away, high in the twisted ancient trees, there was a faint flow of Qi, evidently laid down for vigilance with Dharma Seals or Boundary nodes...
Deep in the ruins, several extremely powerful presences lay dormant.
"High Heaven..." Li Yan pondered, combining Wang Daoxuan’s perception and Tanui Nagashige’s intelligence, his thoughts becoming clearer.
He pointed to the center of the ruins of the Monk Soldier Hall at a spot with severe collapse, like a deep pit formed by immense force, "The taste of Evil Qi is strongest there, the core of the entrance is likely beneath that abyss. But the guardians are strict, and it’s difficult to enter with ordinary methods."
"To infiltrate, one must temporarily detach the spirit and ’travel’ along certain Yin Sha channels into it. But this method is exceptionally dangerous; the spirit detached from the body is fragile, and if one is not careful while traveling in such an Evil Land, it could lead to eternal doom."
Li Yan’s gaze swept over his companions: "We must be fully prepared; I will handle this, with the Daoist setting up what’s needed, and the others protecting me..."
Before his words fell!
Several bolts of darkness suddenly shot out from the shadows of the treetop behind them!
Quick as lightning, tearing through the air, making a sharp screeching sound, aiming directly at the center of the group—Ah Shi, Long Yan’er controlling the Gu Worms, and Wang Daoxuan holding the Compass.
They were cross shurikens laced with poison!
"Enemy attack!"
Li Yan reacted the fastest, shouting urgently while simultaneously applying force underfoot, his figure flickering, instantly appearing beside Wang Daoxuan.
Clang clang clang!
The Soul-breaking Flying Blade whistled out, knocking away all the shurikens.
At the same time, Sha Lifei sprang like a lynx, with a flintlock short gun in hand, unnoticed, and without looking, he raised his hand to pull the trigger.
With a muffled bang and a sudden flash of firelight.
The lead bullet shattered a poison dart aimed at Long Yan’er.
Simultaneously, Kong Shangzhao unsheathed his longsword, the sword light sweeping like a bolt, with a crisp "ding ding ding," deflecting poison darts aimed at Fatty Lin.
Among them, Fatty Lin was the weakest in martial arts.
As for Wu Ba, he let out a low growl, his muscular body suddenly blocking in front of Ah Shi, his muscles vibrating, leaving only a few white marks where the shurikens hit his skin.
The group also caught sight of the attackers.
Like phantoms emerging from the shadows, ground holes, or even beneath fallen leaves, everyone clad in tight nightwear, faces covered with Evil Ghost Masks, moving swiftly and silently, in perfect coordination.
"It’s the Longye Group! Kamo’s lackeys!" Tanui Nagashige angrily reminded.
Combat erupted instantly!
