The Blade-Wielding Legend
Chapter 1741 - 879: Great Array of Grinding Plates, Snowy Demon TracksAfter the Five Immortals Hall expedition, Li Yan and others returned to the front line camp.
The cold wind was biting.
Although the heavy snow had abated slightly, the sky was still tightly shrouded in that layer of dark, suffocating, obscure fog.
This was the consequence caused by the "Yin Yang Inversion Array."
This fog blocked sunlight, confused directions, and nourished ghosts, proving to be the greatest obstacle for the Liaodong army to move forward.
The soldiers in the camp patrolled and stood guard daily, their nerves tense, the oppressive atmosphere weighing on them like a block of lead.
Suddenly—
Without warning, the seemingly ancient and unchanging dark sky began to ripple violently!
Like a dead water pool into which a huge stone had been cast.
From within the fog came a dull sound, like the tearing of fabric, "chi-la."
Immediately following, under the gaze of countless weary and astonished eyes, the thick, impenetrable mist began to thin and lighten at a speed visible to the naked eye!
First, it became like a light gauze, then like morning mist.
Finally, it completely dissipated in many places!
The long-lost, piercingly cold winter sunlight poured down unimpeded, illuminating the sprawling military camp, lighting up the snow-covered distant mountains, and illuminating the incredulous expressions on the soldiers’ faces!
"The fog... the fog has dispersed?!"
A soldier on the watchtower rubbed his eyes, shouting incredulously.
"Quick, look! The mountain top! The mountain top is visible!"
Another soldier pointed at the ridge that was once swallowed by thick fog.
"Heavens have mercy!"
An elderly soldier dropped to his knees in excitement, repeatedly bowing in the direction of the Divine State.
"It is the country! The ritual has succeeded!"
An officer, well-read and aware of the inner workings, suddenly realized and shouted excitedly.
First, there were scattered voices, then it ignited the entire camp like a wildfire.
The long-suppressed fear, anxiety, and despair transformed into deafening cheers and shouts at this moment, surging like waves that broke the silence of the snowfield and soared skyward!
"We succeeded! The Divine State protects us!"
"Heaven bless Great Xuan!!"
"Long live! Long live!!"
The soldiers poured out of their tents, waving their weapons, hugging and cheering, with tears in many of their eyes.
The dissipating fog, like lifting a heavy stone from their chests, allowed the light of hope to once again shine into this bitterly cold land.
In front of the command tent, General Gao Zhenxiong gripped the hilt of his saber, looking at the sky that had regained its brightness.
He let out a long breath, his resolute face showing a rare moment of exhilaration.
The offering members from the Mystical Sect beside him solemnly bowed in the direction of the Divine State.
Standing in a corner of the camp, Li Yan and others exchanged smiles.
If this Great Array hadn’t been broken, the Qi Fortune of the Divine State might truly have been compromised.
"The real tough battle is probably about to begin."
Wang Daoxuan stroked his beard, speaking softly to Li Yan, his tone grave.
Li Yan nodded slightly, his gaze sharp as lightning, passing through the cheering crowd.
He looked towards the array of mountains still appearing sinister and eerie after the fog cleared in the distance.
That was where Zhao Changsheng’s real "grinding plate" was located...
...
The Great Xuan Liao Dong Iron Cavalry, infused with fury, finally crossed the frozen Yalu River.
The iron hooves shattered the thin ice, splattering muddy snow water, heralding the official start of conquering this forsaken land.
The vanguard, as sharp as a steel cone, pierced through, while the main army surged like an iron current, rolling along the ancient road of Goryeo Peninsula’s west coast towards the Royal Capital Han Yang.
Upon entry, the repercussions of the "Yin Yang Inversion Array" were laid bare before them.
The sky was an eternally unresolved leaden grey, the sunlight bleak, as if twilight had descended early even in daylight. The cold wind moaned across the wasteland, whipping up not snowflakes, but ashes and decaying leaves.
The sights along the way were shocking.
This was the manifestation of the disorder of the Yin Yang Astra Bane Qi.
What were once densely populated villages now were nothing but ruined walls.
Charred roof beams leaned crookedly towards the sullen sky, the decayed earth walls bore clear traces of wildfires.
No cooking smoke, no crowing roosters, no barking dogs—the only melody was deathly silence.
Occasionally, one could catch sight of one or two frozen, blackened corpses in the corners of the ruins.
Their twisted postures silently narrated the despair when destruction descended.
The air was filled with the smell of charred wood, decaying bodies, and an indescribable cold, fishy odor.
Beneath this deathly silence lay seething malice.
As intelligence suggested, this place had once been a true haunt of evil spirits.
Those ghosts nourished by Yin Sha or crafted through Evil Techniques lay dormant in the shadows of crumbling walls, in the depths of dry wells, and even in cellar soil during the day.
Their forms twisted, either as flitting shadows or incomplete walking corpses with rotting flesh.
Worse yet, were the zombies buried deeper, formed by absorbing the yin energy of the earth vein.
Their nails were black and pointed, skin tough as leather, slumbering beneath the frozen soil.
When the dim sun completely set, and true night descended, it was their time to act.
Without warning, from shadows in the ruins, behind ancient roadside trees, or even from snowbanks alongside the marching troops, groups of three or five ghosts or walking corpses would suddenly pounce.
They screeched in dissonant wails, recklessly charging at the living.
"Enemy attack! Left flank!"
"Gunners! Fire!"
"Talisman! Quickly!"
The sharp alarms and officers’ screams instantly split the night’s dead silence.
Well-trained soldiers quickly formed formations.
Firearms exploded with a roar, the lead bullets tearing through the darkness with orange-red flames, shredding the approaching ghosts, their limbs flying, black blood and rotting flesh scattering.
The Mystical Sect experts accompanying the army reacted even faster. The Taoists from Dragon and Tiger Mountain threw out several Evil Exorcism Talismans with a flick of the hand, the flames flickering as they scorched the shadows trying to cling to the soldiers, raising wisps of smoke; the swordsmen from Qingcheng Mountain’s sword lights flashed like lightning, Sword Qi slashing, severing the head of an approaching zombie.
