The Blade-Wielding Legend

Chapter 1760 - 886: Splitting Into Two Groups (Part 3)

Li Yan looked at the heavy Black Wood Box in his hand, his expression solemn.

It seems that the Divine Land Mysterious Sect has already sensed this crisis, sparing no expense to send the sect’s future foundation.

He took a deep breath and solemnly cupped his fists to the three people: "As a junior, I shall not disappoint!"

"Good!" A hint of approval flashed in Yu Chanzi’s eyes, "Time is of the essence, let’s move quickly!"

Li Yan said no more, his gaze sweeping over the determined young faces behind him, and he said in a deep voice, "Fellow cultivators, follow me!"

He turned around first and strode out of the command tent.

Gu Linzi, Long Zhaizi, and the Dragon and Tiger Mountain disciples behind Zhang Jingxuan, the sword cultivators of Shushan Emei, and the Daoists of Maoshan silently followed. The group of dozens of people, though silent, naturally exuded an aura of solemnity, dispelling a bit of the oppressive gloom in the camp.

Exiting the camp gate, they were immediately hit by a biting cold wind and swirling snow.

The world was shrouded in gray, the distant mountains looming in and out of view through the snowstorm, like hibernating behemoths.

Li Yan looked around to identify the direction.

"Brother Li," a familiar voice sounded, it was Gu Linzi, the more steady of the Five Dragon Sons.

He walked to Li Yan’s side and asked in a low voice, "The source of the Evil God is elusive and hard to find, where should we start in this vast snowy field?" The gaze of the Five Dragon Sons behind him, as well as the disciples from Dragon and Tiger Mountain, Shushan, and other sects, also focused on Li Yan.

Li Yan did not answer immediately; instead, he turned his gaze to a young man in the team wearing a cotton-padded jacket and with a swarthy complexion.

This person was a disciple of the Five Immortals Sect who had come along with Yu Chanzi, named Wu Shi.

"Brother Wu Shi," Li Yan looked at him, "the Dark Five Immortal Demons have completely defected to the Japanese demons, becoming the claws of the Evil God. They are originally from the same source as your Five Immortals Hall, and their cultivation of secret techniques is also somewhat related."

"Now they are causing havoc, and last night they launched such a big move to attack the Supply Camp. I wonder... does your sect have any secret techniques that can trace their Qi and find some clues?"

Wu Shi pondered, his swarthy face showing a thoughtful expression.

He rubbed his hands together and exhaled a breath of white air, "Hero Li, inside the pass, those traitors are very slippery and rarely leave any traces. But last night, they used so many Beastified Ghost Soldiers and even invoked the Evil God’s Power, they really made quite a commotion."

He paused, "I’ll give it a try! Please, Miss Hei, lend a hand!"

With that, he walked straight to a relatively sheltered snow slope nearby.

First, he bowed three times respectfully towards the northeast, where the Five Immortal Ancestors were, then began to chant in a dialect peculiar to the Liaodong area, rhythmic and intoned: "Sun sets in the West Mountain, darkening the sky, dragons leave the long seas, tigers descend the high mountain... Miss Hei, lend your wise eyes to find those traitors’ tracks and cut off the roots of those demons..."

As he chanted bizarrely yet reverently, Wu Shi’s body began to sway with a strange rhythm.

Gradually, his gaze grew hollow and sharp, with two ghostly points of light flickering in the depths of his pupils.

His movements also became boneless, crawling on all fours, resembling a snake gliding through the snow!

With a "whoosh," he shot forward like an arrow loosened from the string, skimming over the snow.

So fast that a snake-like trail was all that was left on the thick snow.

The crowd watched in secret amazement.

Li Yan waved his hand, "Follow!"

The group immediately deployed their movement techniques, swiftly moving through the wind and snow.

The "Black Snake" that Wu Shi had become sped up, paused at times, seeming to keenly discern an unseen trail in the air.

He led them around a mountain pass to the edge of a battlefield in ruins.

This was where Li Yan broke through and slew Dark Five Immortal Demons last night.

The snow lay trampled into a muddy mess, with stains of mottled dark brown blood and scorch marks.

Wu Shi stopped beside a corpse, half-buried in snow.

The corpse was clad in animal skin, its face twisted, with a massive knife wound frozen into an ice lump on its chest.

Wu Shi circled the body twice, his nostrils flaring as if sniffing for something.

Suddenly, he shuddered, ghostly light flickering in his eyes as he abruptly looked up towards a dense forest in the southeast, emitting a low hiss before darting out like a snake, even faster than before!

The crowd’s spirits lifted, and they followed closely.

The snowstorm seemed fiercer, cutting the face like a knife.

Passing through the sparse birch forest, the terrain gradually rose.

Wu Shi’s speed slowed, eventually stopping before a mostly snow-covered, decrepit Divine Temple.

This temple sat in a north-facing mountain recess, built according to the mountain’s shape. Three stone steps supported a single-eaved Xieshan-style building; the roof, covered in fish-scale-shaped gray tiles, had been abandoned for years, the lintel skewed, walls mottled, roof partially collapsed, exposing a black void inside.

The broken stone steps before the temple were covered in thick white snow, but upon closer inspection, deliberate sweeping marks that left subtle traces due to haste could be detected.

Li Yan pressed his hand on the hilt of the Duan Chen Blade at his waist, his gaze sharp as a hawk, scanning the dark temple door.

In the depths of the temple’s darkness, something seemed to be silently watching them.

Li Yan twitched his nose but could not detect any unusual Qi.

Beside him, Wu Shi, having returned to normal, said doubtfully, "Strange, something about this Mountain God Temple’s structure seems off..."
