Episode 61 - Regular Classes [2]

─────────────────────────────────

After class.

Sitting at a table in the cafeteria, I had a plate piled high with sandwiches in front of me, stacked into a veritable mountain.

Right beside the plate was a large cup of coffee.

So, without wasting any time, I picked up a sandwich and took a big bite.

Every sandwich on the plate was different, from its ingredients to the way it had been prepared.

’Hey, seriously, why do you like sandwiches so much?’

My master suddenly asked.

’It’s nothing special. Ever since I was a kid...’

I suddenly stopped for a moment. That was because what I was about to say wouldn’t make any sense.

My love for sandwiches came from my childhood memories.

Although I didn’t know whether those memories were real or false memories implanted to make me think of this world as if it were a game in the first place.

Even then, if they were false memories, I couldn’t deny that, regardless of the circumstances, I loved sandwiches just as much.

’... There’s no particular reason. I just like them, that’s all.’

At my vague response, my master snorted.

’If you were an ordinary human, I would’ve forbidden you from eating sandwiches instead of a proper meal.’

’What are you talking about? Sandwiches are food, and what do you mean by ’proper food’ anyway?’

’Obviously, I mean the food normal people eat.’

’You’re saying I’m not normal.’

’And why would I deny it?’

"....."

I paused for a second, but then shook my head.

’Whatever, Lady Proper Food.’

’Hey, why do you like teasing your master so much?’

’It can’t be helped.’

The real reason was actually something else. I simply teased her to experiment with my emotions, even if only a little.

They were always suppressed by the Without Emotions Trait, making it rare for me to feel even the slightest hint of emotion.

For some reason, openly teasing my master made me feel a little bit of Amusement.

"Ugh, my body hurts."

Sitting beside me, Rinna muttered as she slowly brought a spoon to her mouth.

Her expression was clearly one of pain, and her eyes looked exhausted.

’Practical classes are exhausting for a Mage.’

The first class had been magic; Professor Ashly specialized in that field. After that came classes held on a training field.

They were physical classes and combat exercises against the professor.

’Now that I think about it, the next class is one-on-one combat.’

Mana would be suppressed through a Magical Item, along with everyone’s physical abilities, so that all the cadets would have the same level of strength.

The class would evaluate combat ability alone, not whether someone won or whether they were strong in every aspect.

"You have the Light Attribute, so you can’t use magic to recover."

At my question, Rinna shook her head.

"My magic doesn’t have much of an effect on myself. I rely on my Unique Trait: Physical of the Saint and my Heart’s Strength: Blessing of the Light."

"....."

"Then forget I said anything."

As I said that, I finished eating the sandwich I had picked up.

Then, I took a sip of my coffee, savoring its intoxicating caffeine that awakened me and cleared my mind.

’Aah, I’ll always love this.’

I highly doubted that I would ever stop drinking coffee anytime soon.

Besides, I had the Divine Body, so even if I drank poison or a Demon’s blood, it wouldn’t affect me in the slightest.

And that went without saying for something as simple as coffee created by nature.

"Hey, Adel, what did you do during the vacation?"

Rinna suddenly asked.

At the moment, Rinna, Veronica, Julian, Charlotte, Diana, and I were sitting at the table.

The usual group.

At Rinna’s question, the others stared at me, waiting for my answer.

"Nothing in particular. I just trained my Sword Art. I’ve been getting good results lately and have improved even further."

"Now that I look at you, you really have advanced to Five Stars."

Julian said, and then Charlotte added.

"So you awakened the Transcendent Body."

"....."

For a moment, I didn’t know what to say. Honestly, I didn’t mind telling them that I had awakened the Divine Body.

However, I thought it was actually better to keep most of my current abilities a secret.

It wasn’t because I distrusted them. Rather, it was simply a matter of caution.

’It’s not necessary anyway.’

So, after a second of silence, I nodded slightly.

"Yeah, I awakened the Transcendent Body."

"Oh, wow, that’s amazing. Congratulations, Adel."

"Yeah, congratulations, Adel. It must have been really painful, right?"

I shook my head at the last comment.

"No, not really. I have a Trait called Immunity to Pain."

"Oh, I didn’t know that. So you don’t feel even the slightest bit of pain?"

Charlotte asked, full of curiosity.

"No, no pain at all."

Everyone except Rinna and Veronica showed expressions of astonishment.

"Enough with the questions. So, what did you guys do?"

Julian was the first to answer.

"Well, I didn’t do anything particularly fun. I just spent my time... having a good time in different places."

On the other hand, Charlotte said.

"Um, I was training, so that’s about it."

"Yes. Me too."

Diana muttered loudly enough for everyone to hear.

Then Veronica said.

"Anyway, I stayed here at the Academy the whole time. It was actually pretty boring."

"...."

"Really? You didn’t go anywhere?"

At my question, an imaginary question mark appeared above her head.

Then, she narrowed her eyes and asked.

"Why do you think that, older brother?"

I shrugged and replied.

"Nothing, just curious."

"Mhm..."

I briefly looked at her emotions and noticed that she was suspicious, but she didn’t pursue the matter.

I shrugged and then asked Rinna.

"What about you? What did you do?"

Rinna, sipping juice through a straw, replied.

"Doing what a future great saint like me is supposed to do."

"....."

"So, nothing."

Her expression froze for a second, and she nodded in embarrassment.

"Y-yeah... B-but it wasn’t because I had nothing to do... It’s just that..."

I interrupted her before she could finish.

"Simply because you’re lazy, right?"

At the end of my sentence, I flashed a smile. She buried her face in her arms without even denying my words.

At that moment, Veronica spoke.

"Hey, older brother, I see you really enjoy teasing Rinna. Does she perhaps...?"

Before she could say anything stupid, I used Spatial Movement and teleported her out of the cafeteria.

"..."

The others stared at me for a moment with blank expressions. Then, Charlotte muttered.

"If she really were your sister, then you’d be a terrible brother."

"..."

’Just so you know, I have a real sister whom I take great care of.’

However, I didn’t say it aloud; the thought simply crossed my mind in my own defense.

After finishing my sandwiches, our free period ended shortly afterward, and we returned to the classroom.

As I took my seat, Veronica stared suspiciously at me from beside me. I ignored her.

Then, the professor in charge of the next class entered.

He was the Martial Arts professor, Joseph.

Professor Joseph, with his large muscles, perfectly groomed beard, and stylish haircut, said.

"Everyone, head to Room A-5. Now."

We quickly got up from our seats and left the classroom.

A few minutes later.

In a spacious room with areas where the floor was slightly soft, Professor Joseph and all the cadets present waited for him to say something.

"Today’s class is simple."

He held up several bracelets and added.

"These bracelets are called Unit Suppressors. They will lower your Mana down to Three Stars, as well as suppress your physical abilities."

"The goal of this class is to evaluate your combat instincts, close-quarters fighting ability, and other things."

"Now, choose the person you’ll be fighting. Quickly."

The cadets moved around from one side to another.

About three minutes passed like this, and with the exception of everyone ranked in the top ten, all the cadets already had someone to fight.

Then, Professor Joseph said.

"For those ranked in the top ten, do the following: starting with Ranks 1 and 2, pair up. Then Ranks 3 and 4, and so on."

Rinna and Veronica, who had been standing beside me, moved. Julian, Charlotte, and Diana moved as well.

Meanwhile, I remained still. Then, suddenly, Lumina appeared right beside me and said.

"Let’s go."

Her expression was completely impassive as she said that, and without waiting for a response, she walked toward Professor Joseph.

’She’s been acting pretty distant.’

I didn’t know the reason, but I was sure it had nothing to do with the time I interrogated her using my Unique Trait: Manipulation.

So, I followed her from behind, and Professor Joseph handed each of us a bracelet, just as he did with all the other cadets.

Shortly afterward, Professor Joseph told everyone to find a spot where they could begin their close-quarters fights.

Each pair of cadets positioned themselves where there was a red circle, according to Rinna’s description of the room.

Each red circle was ten square meters in size.

So, after putting the bracelet around my wrist, Lumina and I stood facing each other in the center of the circle.

Shortly afterward, Professor Joseph shouted as he stood with his arms crossed.

"Now, begin."
