Chapter 244

Episode 61 - Regular Classes [4]
─────────────────────────────────
First of all, I didn’t know whether Lumina and I had ever had some kind of rivalry, and whether that was why she had created Martial Arts and, most likely, Sword Arts solely to fight me.
’This is ridiculous.’
Could there really be someone in the world who was so stubborn that they would go this far just to fight another person?
’Actually, there is.’
Regardless, that wasn’t the point. The point was that it was impossible for me to fight her using only Martial Arts.
Even so...
’...I’ll just copy all of her Martial Arts.’
Even if it was Lumina, I highly doubted she could create more Martial Arts in the middle of a fight.
For example, if I copied her Martial Arts, I could combine them and create an entirely new one; however, that would take me a few days.
’But what if I focus my mind on only two things?’
Copying and combining.
Normally, my mind was always divided into several groups.
During a fight, I would devote one to manipulating Mana; another to creating thoughts; another to selecting thoughts; then another to deciding my movements and controlling my body; and, finally, the most complicated one of all.
’Using Traits and Sword Arts.’
Of course, there were more groups my mind was divided into while fighting.
But the ones I mentioned were the most important and consumed most of my mental capacity.
’Therefore, this will be the first time I’ve ever focused my mind on just two groups.’
Thus, I concentrated my senses into one group and fixed them on Lumina. Finally, I focused the other half of my mind on combining the Martial Arts copied by the first group.
The first group would copy Lumina’s Martial Arts, while the second group would combine those Martial Arts to create an entirely new one.
"....."
Then, I copied Lumina’s completely new stance.
Whoosh!
Lumina’s body moved at incredible speed, appearing in front of me as she thrust out her fists and palms.
"...."
Bang! Clang!
I felt powerful blows striking every part of my body, even as I copied her movements and struck back using those very same techniques.
Lumina suddenly changed her movement pattern; however, I also realized something.
’She’s using five different Martial Arts in every movement.’
She didn’t use just one when executing her movements; rather, she intertwined movements from other Martial Arts.
Upon realizing this, I changed my approach and copied the exact same attack pattern.
Boom! Whoosh!
I moved my arms and legs, creating balanced footwork as if I were dancing.
Then, I moved my fists and struck; however...
"...."
Using only one hand, Lumina deflected every blow I threw and counterattacked in rapid succession.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
I took ten steps backward, and suddenly, my right leg lost its strength for a second.
I dropped to one knee on the spot, and after recovering the strength in my leg, I stood up, but...
Whoosh!
".....?"
Lumina, who had appeared in front of me, struck the air, and the palm of her hand slammed into my chest.
Boom!
I was sent flying backward before coming to a stop. At the same time, I felt as though my body wasn’t responding properly.
’She’s using pressure points while simultaneously employing Martial Arts.’
It was truly ridiculous, but the person standing before me was a regressor. She had lived the same life over and over for so long that she had learned every method of attack and every possible combination.
Honestly, perhaps if I don’t recover my memories, defeating Lumina without relying on Mana will be impossible for me.
’That is, assuming how many lives I’ve actually lived and how many of those lives were spent as powerful individuals or simply as ordinary humans.’
Whoosh!
I struck the ground and lunged at Lumina, closing the distance in less than a second.
Adopting the same stances she had used against me just moments ago, I struck toward her chest.
My palm came within a few inches of her, and just as it was about to connect...
"....?!"
Lumina pivoted on her heels, grabbed my forearm, and then, using all her strength, pulled me forward.
In that instant, she used her body to lift me off the ground, and I spun through the air before my back slammed into the floor.
"....."
Breathing heavily, Lumina tilted her head. Then, she looked down at me and said.
"Let me guess. You want to copy all of my Martial Arts and then combine them into one extremely complicated technique."
"....."
"I suppose that’s a yes, right?"
The corners of her lips curled into a smile. The moment I noticed that she was smiling, my mind was left utterly bewildered.
’She’s always been this shameless.’
In disbelief, I thought of my future self.
’What the hell did you two do?’
With a swift movement, I got up from the floor and then stretched my back.
Crack!
"..."
’I felt some discomfort, so I dislocated my back.’
When she did that, I hadn’t realized it at all.
Even so, I managed a faint smile.
"Just out of curiosity, why did your personality suddenly change?"
At my question, Lumina’s smile froze.
"....."
Then, she suddenly covered her mouth with the palm of her hand and firmly shook her head, denying my words.
"N-no, what... what nonsense are you talking about... haha, me? Change my personality?"
Without showing any expression, I said as I pointed at her.
"Just like I said, you acted really childish a second ago. Honestly, I even thought it was shameless, but also... adorable, would be the right word."
".....?!"
Before I could even continue, Lumina lunged at me and covered my mouth with her palm.
"...."
My mind went blank for a second as I wondered why she had suddenly done that.
But when I realized we were still in the middle of a fight, I played along.
Boom!
I moved my hands and used my legs to push her away; however, she clung to me even tighter, as if she were desperate.
Lumina let her guard down, and when I noticed it, I imitated the same movements she had used and struck with the palm of my hand.
Whoosh!
Lumina staggered back ten steps.
"You did that on purpose, didn’t you?"
"W-what..."
I flashed a smile as I adopted a more complex combat stance.
"You deliberately left an opening. You probably have something planned, don’t you?"
Incredulity appeared on Lumina’s face.
"N-no, that’s not it..."
"Doesn’t matter. Enough pretending. Let’s finish this."
According to my calculations, the fights were supposed to last ten minutes.
How much time had passed?
’I think it’s been almost ten minutes.’
I hadn’t been keeping track of the time since I had divided my mind into two groups.
So, finally, after copying at least every Martial Art Lumina had displayed during those ten minutes...
’Unexpectedly, I copied everything and even combined it all.’
Displaying a combat stance Lumina had never shown before, I murmured under my breath as I manipulated my Will.
"Imperfect Heavens Art."
It was a name I had come up with on the spot, but names generally weren’t important to me.
So, without giving much thought to the name of my new Martial Art, I moved my body and appeared in front of Lumina.
Whoosh! Boom!
Immediately, Lumina adopted a stance I had never seen before and moved her arms and legs.
"....."
Boom!
I moved my body nimbly and, while dodging, deflected each of her movements as well.
At the same time, I began copying her new movements in my mind and processing them so I could add them to the Imperfect Heavens Art I had just created.
Within a few seconds, the exchange of blows changed.
Boom! Whoosh!
Moving as fast as she could and using all her strength, Lumina began switching between different Martial Arts one after another.
Just like her, I copied each of her new movements one after another, pushing my mind to its absolute limit.
I processed them and tried to incorporate them into my Martial Arts, perfecting and refining them as much as possible.
Thus, as we exchanged blows, I began gaining the upper hand.
Lumina’s expression gradually became serious, and she quickly began using Martial Arts so complex that they were difficult to copy.
Even so, I continued dodging and counterattacking.
Crack!
Even the air twisted, as if space and gravity were warping with every movement.
In just one minute, Lumina had switched between ten different Martial Arts, each one more complex than the last.
Bang!
At that moment, I took five steps back, while Lumina took ten.
This was because her stamina had probably already been depleted.
’Lumina’s weakness has always been her stamina.’
Even with the Divine Body, her stamina barely increased.
Her stamina had always been stuck at Three Stars; beyond that, it was impossible for her to increase it.
Lumina was breathing heavily. Her body was even glistening as drops of sweat fell to the floor.
I could also hear her heartbeat, racing from exhaustion.
She was at the limit of her stamina.
In theory, her stamina didn’t change even with the bracelet, and although my stamina had dropped to Three Stars because of the bracelet, my natural recovery ability, combined with the support of my Divine Body, made stamina something I didn’t even need to worry about. Thanks to my rapid recovery, it was practically infinite.
So, naturally, I wasn’t tired in the slightest; I wasn’t even sweating.
’However, my mind is a different story.’
An immense mental fatigue constantly pounded against my head. I had pushed my mental strength beyond its limits to accelerate my mind every time I copied Lumina.
On top of that, I had been improving and refining my Martial Arts at the same time.
"Time’s up. All pairs, stop."
At that moment, Professor Joseph shouted.
Lumina let out a sigh as she collapsed to the floor.
As for me, I shook my head and thought.
’It would’ve been great to keep copying her Martial Arts.’
However, there would be a next time.
