The Broken System Chose the Antagonist
Chapter 81: Reunion Between Groups [3] {Bonus}Crowds of shrill cries erupted from the back, and Predicaments suddenly emerged from the innermost part of the warehouse — three, to be exact. One of them was Elias’.
Their tall, lanky bodies were equipped with metal. From their bat-like heads to their stocky lower halves, they were fully covered in thick, yet partially corroded sheets of metal. Unlike Elias’, the other two didn’t have capes, but in an unfair exchange, their armour was of higher quality and design.
The people in Roxy’s group immediately froze in place at the sight of them, while those in Ross’ group cheered at their arrival, but soon froze as well when the Scoundrels suddenly roared.
Nadia, who had turned her head back to look at them, had a glimmer of amazement flicker through her blue eyes. ’So, that’s what they’ve been doing all day...’
She hadn’t seen either Ross or Callum today, as they had locked themselves inside the workshop, even when she and Seraphine came along to bring them materials. So, she had figured they were doing something important in the back so as not to be disturbed.
But to think it was this...
She then caught a glimpse of Elias tackling someone to the ground before pummeling them. ’The fact that the Scoundrels are here, along with him, that should mean Ross is here as well.’
Roxy, noticing that Nadia was distracted, quickly captured the opportunity to attack.
With a kick of the ground, she lunged at Nadia and hurriedly threw a heavy haymaker.
Sensing danger, Nadia glanced back at her before instinctively raising an arm in defence — the same arm that had just recently made a full recovery.
Due to her poor reaction time, she failed to properly guard against the attack and was uprooted from the ground, flying into a crowd of people and knocking them over.
After awkwardly apologising to the people she crashed into, she hurriedly got to her feet. She sensed a slight numbness in her arm. When she went to check the area she was struck, she found she was still uninjured; no bruises, unlike last time.
Though she didn’t really expect it, considering Roxy was without a doubt weaker than a Scoundrel when it came to physical strength alone.
"Why won’t you just stay down?" Roxy growled, taking a menacing step forward. "After I round up these people, I’ll just give you a small black eye. I won’t even use Vitality, so you can heal from it quicker!"
Nadia was dumbfounded. "Be reasonable... by now shouldn’t you realise Hilda isn’t even here? It’s obvious she took off running with your eyes somewhere."
"Oh, yeah? She’s was a part of this group wasn’t she? What about your guys’ eyes? Do you guys still have them?"
"..." Nadia’s face contorted when she heard that, cornered.
They indeed still had their eyes, but if she said that, it could strengthen Roxy’s idea that they were in on Hilda’s plan. And if she lied... it was only just going to delay the inevitable.
She let out a sigh. ’Was it her plan to have the two groups fight amongst each other...?’
Catching onto Nadia’s sigh, Roxy pointed accusingly. "Aha! I knew it! You all definitely planned to rob our eyes, via that woman! I knew I shouldn’t trust anyone close with an LRM officer...!"
"We’re barely even that close! In fact, we’re not close at all!" Nadia retorted sharply. "And you can’t base everything on one correct accusation!"
Without giving Roxy time to respond, Nadia bent her knees and dashed in the woman’s direction, her arm cocked far back. It was obvious she was planning to go for a heavy blow.
Easily reading this, Roxy crossed her arms and summoned her {Power Wall}.
The yellow translucent wall manifested in front of her and blocked Nadia’s attack with a ripple in its surface.
Nadia scowled at this and even had the urge to summon her Relic, though she quickly crossed that idea out of her mind. The situation wasn’t serious enough for her to reason using her sword.
When she was about to throw another punch, the barrier vanished.
Roxy, having now uncrossed her arms, quickly threw a punch, which Nadia managed to swiftly avoid. However, when she tried to counterattack, Roxy crossed her arms again and caused the yellow obstacle to reappear — blocking her attack again.
This cycle repeated for a few moments. And in that time, she learned two things.
To destroy {Power Wall}, she needed to either completely overwhelm it with attacks until it crumbled on its own, which she had managed to do on rare occasions. Or to focus on one singular attack to shatter it completely, like Hilda did, for example.
Unfortunately, the latter was something she could not do.
Watching as the yellow wall appeared in front of her again, her urge to summon her Relic intensified. ’How irritating...!’
When she tried to look for a way around the barrier, someone suddenly rushed past her and pounced towards the yellow wall, their fist quickly hitting it with an explosion of Vitality.
"{Force}!"
In an instant, the wall — that had deeply troubled her — was shattered completely.
Ross, who was the one behind this, spared no time after destroying Roxy’s {Power Wall} and circled the woman.
Then, much to Roxy’s startlement, he grappled her from behind, restraining her arms as he tried to throw her to the ground — though Roxy obviously wasn’t going to allow that.
The two struggled against each other, then soon realised their strengths were about the same, even with Vitality.
Ross, quickly realising this, called out to Nadia for assistance:
"Her Heart is corrupted with negative emotions and is affecting her reasoning! Help me restrain her, so we can get her back to normal!"
’So her Heart really is corrupted!’ Nadia widened her eyes.
Planning not to waste any time asking questions, she rushed in and assisted Ross in restraining her. And throughout the process, Roxy constantly lashed out and growled like a savage animal with rabies.
It was a struggle to keep her from moving, but eventually, when someone brought out chains to tie up her wrists, the trouble of keeping her restrained eased.
Soon, Roxy’s tense body grew relaxed.
After a while, Ross looked towards Nadia, who stared at him intently, as if hinting she had questions.
He nodded and raised two fingers.
