Chapter 26b

A year had passed since Karin had left Kusagakure to join Konoha, and in that one year her life had undergone a complete transformation. After her mother’s death, she had been alone and afraid in Kusa, but here in Konoha she now had a new family to lean on.

Lady Tsunade had become an older sister to her, and the older woman had become sort of an idol to her. She was strong and powerful. Even the Godaime-sama with his absolute powers was afraid of her.

She also had friends now in the form of Sakura and Ino-san. Both of whom had been a great help to her, and for the first time in her life she had a purpose as well. Initially she had been hesitant about what she wished to do with her life. She had spent years resenting her powers, but in Konoha they were considered a blessing.

Still, no one in the village coerced her into using them or becoming a ninja. They gave her full autonomy, and it took her a few months to recognize her calling. Karin was strong, but she had little love for fighting and battles.

But she loved iryo-nin. She loved seeing people smile, as Tsunade-sama healed them or their loved ones from their ailments. That joy. That smile. It was comforting, and so she told her about her plans.

Tsunade-sama accepted her words and took Karin under her wing. It was grueling at first, but it became evident rather quickly that she was quite well suited to the art of iryo-ninjutsu. Over the next few months, she was easily able to catch up with Sakura and Ino, as the three of them pushed each other to the limit.

“Karin,” she was training when Tsuande-sama suddenly interrupted her.

“Yes,” she answered dutifully, and the blonde woman looked at her strangely for a few minutes before nodding.

“Come with me,” Karin said, and she followed her. She walked out of the training room as Tsunade-sama led her to the top floor, which was strange, for from what she knew the place had always been locked down because of a design flaw.

“From today onwards, I am giving you a new mission,” Lady Tsunade began, and as they reached the top floor, Tsunade-sama bit into her thumb and placed it on a seal, and suddenly the floor that had always been invisible to her lit up in her senses.

“You are going to help me deal with this lot,” and she could not understand.

“What is this place?” she asked in surprise.

“This is one of our most secretive places in the village. Only a handful of people even know about its existence,” and she led her through the Halls, and the walls were filled with sealing formulas that she barely understood.

“Lady Tsunade,” suddenly, the very familiar face of Shizune-san walked out of a room, with a rather frustrated expression.

“It’s those two again, isn’t it?” Tsunade-sama asked, and Shizune-san nodded.

“They are insistent on leaving,” and Tsunade-sama shook her head.

“Those idiots,” she said, stepping into the room, and Karin followed after her and she found herself looking at two ANBU standing close to a window, trying to push it open. Their faces were covered with their masks but she could make out their identity rather easily with her Kekkei Genkai.

It was Sasuke-kun and Kakashi-san.

The two of them stilled, and she sensed dread fill their bodies as they spotted Lady Tsunade barreling into their room.

“Where do you think you two are going?” Tsunade-sama asked ominously as she cracked her knuckles.

KONAN

The past two years had been filled with trials and tribulations for the Akatsuki. Just as they had begun their campaign of harvesting the jinchuriki from their respective villages, an opposition had risen up in defiance.

The Akatsuki faced many enemies, yet the only two that offered the greatest trouble were the young Hokage from Konoha and the traitor Orochimaru. Both of them possessed abilities that made them a menace to deal with, and while the Hokage remained an external enemy, the truth was that Orochimaru’s mere existence was a blight on their honor.

The man was a traitor, and the longer he drew breath, the greater humiliation he caused their entire organization. But hunting him down was not easy. Orochimaru was a Sanin, and he was a master at slithering away.

They had tried to hunt him down for two years, yet in the end they had met little success in that time. Each time they got close, the man would scurry away from their grasp, but this time it would be different.

The man had finally decided to slither out of his hole, and Konan would see him punished for his mistake. She flew over the border of the village, which had been hidden away behind seals for the last few years.

She saw him standing there without much care a tall, as she lowered herself to the ground. The man in question stood opposite to her, without even a hint of fear or apprehension.

“So, you have finally decided to slither out of your hiding hole,” she taunted, as the older Sanin simply smirked at her.

“I was hoping that your dear leader would come and grace me with his presence himself,” and her mood soured at the mention of Nagato.

“Pain does not need to worry himself over pests like you,” and she raised her hand as papers began to form into shuriken around her.

“I shall deal with you on my own,” and the shuriken raced forward, when suddenly three figures jumped forward and parried away all of her shuriken. Three shinobi who had once stood at the pinnacle of this world, one’s who had worn the mantle of Hokage.

“It seems like I will have to force him out of his hiding place myself,” and Konan’s eyes narrowed as she looked at the revived bodies of the three Kages, and through their own network, they had learned about the Sanin’s newfound prowess.

“Edo Tensei,” she whispered, and so everything they had learned about him was true.

“Do you really think you stand a chance against the might of the Three Hokage?” he taunted, and she prepared herself for a grueling fight.

“I will not be defeated by these dead relics from a bygone era,” and by now the Shodaime Hokage had stepped forward and was cycling through a series of handseals.

“Mokuton: Deep Forest Emergence,” and suddenly, the ground itself was ripped apart as a massive forest bloomed forth. Konan simply jumped back as a dozen clones sprang up around her.

“Ninpo: Suicide Paper Clones,” and they rushed forward and began crashing into the emerging forest.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The forest was blown apart, as suddenly the Nidaime Hokage appeared behind her and pushed a kunai through her being. But rather than hitting flesh, the blade simply passed through her body as Konan’s body turned itself into paper.

Her body reoriented itself on its own, and the man tried to pull himself away, but Konan grabbed his hand as paper began to form a cocoon around him.

The third Hokage tried to intervene, but a clone came out and blocked him away, as suddenly a massive sealing formula began to form around the body of the Nidaime Hokage.

“What have you done?” Now the Snake Sanin’s smirk was wiped away as Konan turned to address him once more.

“Did you really think we would not think of a way to counter your technique?” The Edo Tensei was truly a troubling technique. The ability to call upon shinobi long dead was simply impossible to deal with, and the Akatsuki were not the only ones to make that realization.

All of the five great nations had reached the same conclusion, but only one was able to find a breakthrough. It had not taken long for Konoha to develop a countermeasure to the monster they had unleashed upon the world.

Through great effort, they were able to get their hands on the technique as well, and now they possessed the key to defeating Edo Tensei as well.

“Huh, so you think your little seal can help you even the odds?” Orochimaru challenged, as wings formed on her back and Konan took to the skies once more.

“It is time for you to pay for your sins,” and she shot forward a thousand paper senbon towards him, only for the Sandaime Hokage to step forward and block them all.

“Doton: Mud Wall,” and her attack was stopped just like that.

“If you truly think that you can defeat me all on your own, then you are even more delusional than I realized,” and now the Shodaime jumped forward and slapped his hands into the ground.

“Mokuton: Wooden Golem,” and a massive wooden golem rose up from the ground and began attacking her. Konan flew under its strike, but suddenly hands grew out of its body and began to come at her.

The punch pushed through her, but suddenly the Sandaime Hokage emerged forth and cycled through a series of handseals.

“Katon: Flame Bombs,” and Konan bit her lip, as she was forced to bring forward her wings to shield herself from the attack.

BOOOM!

The ninjutsu hit her hard, and she was pushed back, only for the Golem to try to crush her between its massive hands. She pushed her hands forward, and paper rushed out of them to stop the two palms from crushing her.

“You may pretend to be an Angel, dear Konan,” Orochimaru taunted her from down below, as she ground her teeth to keep those palms away.

“But yours is but a pretender God. Pain is nothing compared to the might of the man who was once hailed as the God of Shinobi,” and she knew well the legend of the man she faced.

But she had spent the last two years preparing herself for this fight.

“The only one pretending to be a God here...” and the preparations were complete, as she pushed her chakra through the paper bombs she had attached to the massive Wooden golem at this time.

“...is you!”

BOOOM! BOOOOM! BOOOOM! BOOOOM! BOOOM!

The world was blown apart, and the golem exploded as she pushed through the smoke and flew up into the skies.

The smoke cleared up, and she raised her hands.

“You were not the only one who has spent years preparing himself for this fight,” and suddenly the clouds up in the air broke away to reveal their true nature as Orochimaru’s eyes widened.

Over the last two years, she had spent considerable time preparing enough paper to form massive clouds up in the sky. These clouds dissolved into paper before they began taking the form of a giant angel.

“Ninpo:....” she whispered as she felt her body grow into a massive size, as two years of hard work took form.

“....God’s Judgment,” and in the massive Angel’s hand was a staff which it launched towards Orochimaru and his undead projections, and the Sandaime Hokage stepped forward to block it off.

“Doton: Great Mud Mountain!” and a massive Earthen mountain rose up infront of them, but the attack simply blew it off, but the man did not relent.

He had recognized that her technique was weak to fire, so through the dust his voice rang forward once more.

“Katon: majestic Destroyer Flame,” and a massive wall of fire raced towards her, as the Shodaime Hokage simply joined in on the attack.

“Futon: Gale Palm!” and the rising storm of winds only furthered the attack’s power, as the massive angel backed away and flapped its wings hard, sending out a storm of wind towards the attack.

WOOOOSH!

Air met fire, and a massive storm of fire rushed towards her and was sent flying back at Orochimaru’s men.

Fire ravaged the land, and when the dust of it finally eased up, she saw that the Sandaime Hokage had stepped forward to shield the Shodaime Hokage, Hashirama Senju, who had brought his hands together in a prayer.

Even with the fire tearing through his being, the Sandaime Hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi jumped up, and the man was nearly as resilient as her own former sensei as he refused to back down.

She pushed herself forward, and the drain from using such a massive technique was rather large. So, she knew well that she had to end this soon.

“Futon:..” and the man used a storage seal to summon a massive shuriken, and laced it with sharp wind chakra.

“....Vaccum Shuriken!” and shot it forward. Konan tried to parry it away with her staff, but the shuriken simply tore through it, though the strike was strong enough to make it veer off course.

Her staff had now been cut into two, and the Sandaime Hokahe did not relent as he cycled through his handseals once more.

“Katon...” but she did not let him finish as she dissolved her hand and showered him with a thousand paper shuriken.

BOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM!

The shuriken blew away his body, and she grabbed it before it could fall down and sealed him up before it could cause him any more trouble.

By now, her chakra reserves had fallen well below halfway.

But now she had only the one Hokage left to deal with.

“You have done well, Konan,” Orochimaru said, though he seemed entirely unbothered by it all, much to her confusion.

“I never would have thought that you would be able to subdue two Kages all by yourself, but I am afraid this is as far as you go,” and suddenly she felt the world shift, and it took him half a second to recognize the source of that shift as strange markings appeared on Hashirama Senju’s face.

“Senpo: Mokuton:...” and the world changed, as a monstrosity rose up from the ground, and Konan’s eyes widened as she saw a Buddha statue emerge from the ground. It was even larger than her own jutsu.

“...Shinsu Senju!”
