The Cornflower Witch

Book 3: Chapter 240: The Innocent Amelie

The day of the Silver Bell Festival had arrived.

Under the snow-fluttering sky, carriages one after another passed through the streets, arriving at the Tetis District. There, they used the special magic arrays to teleport directly to the top of the tower. This place stood above the firmament, high enough to overlook the endless sea of clouds.

Sylutia gathered the shawl around her collar, walked down the steps, and stood on this elevated viewing platform. This was the VIP section for the "Mithril Clock" school, usually reserved for master mages and members with higher official positions within the faction. As for the students of Tetis College, they were assigned to another viewing stand, which was still empty at the moment.

Glancing at the veterans already seated here — each older and higher in rank than herself — Sylutia felt a bit of pressure. She thought to herself that if she had known it would be like this, she would have rather followed the college crowd and sat over there instead.

Unfortunately, the Tetis College apprentices hadn't entered yet, and that stand was completely empty. Going over there alone would have been far too conspicuous.

As Sylutia stood there, pondering how to change her seat later, a familiar voice came from behind her.

"Hedra." The voice was slightly aged but still sounded unusually vigorous.

The young girl turned around. Seeing the elderly man, she instinctively straightened her posture and bowed politely.

"Greetings, Dean." This old man was none other than the Sage Aitos, the current Dean of Tetis College and the leader of the "Mithril Clock" school.

Seeing that Sylutia was still so polite and well-behaved, Aitos smiled and nodded. Then he whispered a few words, and under Sylutia's curious gaze, he stepped aside to reveal another girl who had been hiding behind him. She had azure-blue hair so long it reached her back ankles, making one worry she might trip over her own locks.

"Her name is Amelie. She's something of an adopted daughter to me, about the same age as you."

Sylutia nodded, then turned her curious gaze to this girl who was about her own height. The other girl had a head of azure-blue spiral hair that resembled a work of art, light-golden eyes as pure as an infant's, skin as white as snow, and a face so beautiful and flawless it seemed without any defects — as if she were a masterpiece carefully crafted by the gods.

"Hello, I'm Hedra." The young girl pressed a hand to her collar as she introduced herself.

Then the girl opposite her shyly lowered her head and let out a mosquito-like, faint response.

"Amelie..." She spoke her name while staring at her own toes.

After a few seconds, as if realizing that wasn't appropriate, she lifted her head again and looked at Sylutia. Those eyes held anticipation, curiosity, and joy — exceptionally clear.

Sylutia thought to herself that this girl seemed even more innocent than she was. Yet she was already at the Fifth Tier. That was truly rare, and she had never even heard of her before.

Aitos watched their first meeting with a smile. Then he led the two to a lounge on the inner side of the viewing platform. After they sat down in the quiet room, he began to explain.

"Amelie's talent is very special. She can cultivate much faster than ordinary people, which is why she could reach the Fifth Tier at this age." Aitos first briefly explained the situation.

"Considering this, in order to help her master the immense power she gained as quickly as possible, she spent a very long time learning knowledge and skills. She rarely interacted with the outside world, so not many people know about her."

"I see." Sylutia nodded.

"Because she has limited understanding of the outside world, Amelie's personality is very innocent. I often worry that if she goes out alone, she might encounter bad people or be deceived, so I rarely let her come into contact with the outside world." Aitos sighed.

"That's actually the real reason. Amelie's talent is too exceptional and she's too naive. If she were to go out alone, she would definitely encounter people with dark hearts and easily be ruined."

"This time, we finally had the chance, and it coincided with the once-every-eight-years college tournament, so I brought her out for some fresh air." Aitos continued.

"She's about the same age as you. Could you keep Amelie company today? Also, because of her special identity, she can't leave this Tower of All Things. Later, when watching the competitions and performances, she'll also need to sit in the dedicated VIP viewing room and not be easily exposed to others." He explained some details to Sylutia.

"I understand." Sylutia nodded. That wasn't difficult, but she hadn't expected that Sage Aitos would trust her so much.

"Then I can rest assured." Aitos nodded. He chatted with the two for a while longer, telling them about Amelie's situation, before leaving the lounge.

As the Dean, he had to give a speech at the Silver Bell Festival and attend events later, so he couldn't stay here long.

After Aitos left, the room was left with only Amelie and Sylutia, falling into a brief silence.

Sylutia wasn't really the type who was good at socializing. At this moment, looking at Amelie sitting on the sofa across from her, she didn't know where to start.

Oh well, she might as well first take her to the VIP viewing room the Dean mentioned. The environment there should be much better.

Thinking this, Sylutia stood up and approached Amelie. The blue-haired girl's eyes widened slightly as she looked up at her, as if asking what Sylutia wanted to do with her.

If she were a bad person, seeing Amelie like this would probably stir up a bit of guilt and unease, Sylutia thought to herself.

She gently took Amelie's hand and told her, "The Dean is busy with matters for now. Come with me, Amelie."

"Mm." Amelie obediently stood up, following the palm Sylutia was holding as she trailed behind the black-haired girl.

The two walked through a quiet, empty corridor. Soon, they reached the VIP viewing room on the top floor. Here, special one-way glass was installed, allowing a clear view of the central square below. The room had soft velvet sofas, wide enough for two people to sleep on, along with neatly arranged snacks and fruits — all of which were at least Third Tier quality and exceptionally exquisite.

This was probably a viewing room or lounge specially reserved for the Dean, but since he wasn't using it right now, he had given it to the two of them.

Pulling Amelie to sit in the middle seat, Sylutia placed the snacks and fruits in front of her and asked the blue-haired girl if she wanted to eat something.

"I'm not hungry." Amelie sat obediently on the sofa. Her light-golden eyes were strikingly beautiful even indoors, as if golden fish were swimming inside them, reflecting shimmering watery light.

Not hungry? Sylutia thought for a moment, then continued asking.

"Do you only eat when you're hungry?"

"Yes." Amelie nodded, her clear eyes seeming to say, "Isn't that the truth?"

"Actually, you can eat a little even when you're not hungry." Sylutia quickly understood the situation.

"Really?" Amelie looked at the snacks being offered, a bit hesitant.

"How about trying a little?" Sylutia broke off a small piece from the wafer-like snack and handed it to Amelie.

The other girl looked at it, then slightly opened her mouth and bit down. The motion was very light. Sylutia only felt the tips of her fingers brush against moist lips before the small piece of snack entered Amelie's mouth. Then, pressing lightly with her fingers, Amelie chewed slowly and finished the biscuit.

"Is it good?"

"Mm." Amelie nodded.

"Hedra, eat too." Her words were sparse.

Sylutia looked at the remaining snack biscuit in her hand, then also put it in her mouth and tasted it. When she looked up again, she noticed Amelie had been watching her curiously the whole time, as if imitating and learning.

"Amelie." She called the other girl's name.

"Here." The blue-haired girl pressed a hand to her chest, as if expressing that she was right there.

Seeing her clumsy yet innocent appearance, Sylutia showed a faint smile, then wiped the corner of Amelie's mouth clean.

"Alright, let's just sit here and watch the Silver Bell Festival's competitions and performances. If there's anything you don't understand, just ask me."

"Hedra, good." Hearing this, Amelie felt a little happy.

After that, the two sat side by side on the velvet sofa. Sylutia began to introduce the various factions, organizations, and representative guests from other powers that appeared on the opposite viewing stand. She explained the characteristics of these factions and organizations, weaving in some historical stories along the way.

Much of this content, Amelie had seen in the library, but those were records from a long time ago. Today, when Sylutia told her about them, it was much more vivid. She also had so many questions to ask.

And so, in their conversation, time passed little by little, and the two gradually grew familiar with each other.
