Chapter 876: 876 - Xiaohu’s Improvement

While Rouxi, Xueyao, and Isabel chatted animatedly, sharing laughter and playful banter with little Lingxi, Qingyi was enduring a grueling training regimen.

For the past few days, all he had done was tirelessly train his Spatial Qi, on top of accompanying Bai Hu Lie and the chubby Xiaohu in their own training sessions.

This time, it fell to the fattie—now much less chubby—to sit beside his adoptive father and watch Qingyi and Bai Hu Lie exchange blows.

Violent booms tore through the air with every clash of fists, each impact reverberating across the training field like rolling thunder.

The enormous white tiger and the young dragon lunged at each other relentlessly, their fists carving through the wind in strikes so swift the naked eye could barely follow them.

The very atmosphere around them boiled and warped, unable to withstand the pressure radiating from their bodies.

Craters bloomed beneath their feet with every heavy step, and thick clouds of dust swirled around the two combatants like a raging tempest, kicked up by the sheer force of their exchanges.

Both possessed power that far exceeded their respective cultivation realms, though Qingyi, in particular, had to hold back a significant portion of his own strength, since he had long since surpassed Bai Hu Lie in raw might.

"Hm... this position suits me—Xiaohu, the great coward—much better, hahaha!" Xiaohu roared with laughter, stretching his legs out beside Elder Ling, who merely shook his head in utter disapproval.

"You brat, how do you expect to win over a beauty if you insist on introducing yourself with that title? No girl falls in love with a coward!" Elder Ling grumbled, delivering a firm punch to his adopted son’s head.

A muffled thud echoed across the field, and the wooden bench beneath Xiaohu creaked dangerously, on the verge of splitting in half from the sheer force.

Xiaohu could only whimper, rubbing the throbbing bump swelling on his head with a pained expression.

Still, though he would never admit it aloud, he had changed quite a bit over the past few months.

He could now take a punch without flinching, and his face—relentlessly reshaped by Bai Hu Lie’s fists—was far slimmer than before.

He had shed nearly fifty kilograms, and though he was still far from perfect, he already resembled something worthy of being called a cultivator.

Even so, his special constitution remained very far from awakening.

It was only natural.

His body was in much better shape, yes, but his constitution and lineage would require far more to stir from their slumber. Real life-or-death battles. Genuine pain. Pure despair.

Old Ling let out a heavy sigh when he noticed the fight between Qingyi and Bai Hu Lie had come to an end.

The great tiger lay sprawled on his back, his enormous chest heaving with labored breaths, his eyes half-closed from exhaustion.

Qingyi rose calmly, cracking his back and rolling his shoulders, a gentle smile playing on his lips.

"Come on, Xiaohu, it’s your turn to take a beating." Qingyi smiled, and before the fattie had any chance to defend himself, he grabbed him by the collar and hurled him straight at Bai Hu Lie, who was already climbing to his feet with a hoarse growl of anticipation.

While Xiaohu dealt with Bai Hu Lie as best he could, using his own face as a shield against the tiger’s fists, Qingyi settled down calmly beside Elder Ling.

"Xiaohu has improved a lot over the last two months," Qingyi remarked, his eyes fixed on the fattie, who was currently taking a merciless beating.

"Yes... more than in his entire life." Elder Ling nodded slowly, turning to Qingyi with a complex expression etched onto his wrinkled face.

He knew full well that Qingyi was being prepared for something great, and that this something was connected, in some way, to the Divine Blacksmith’s daughter.

As an elder, he had access to various pieces of information considered absolute secrets, but even so, he was merely a junior elder and did not know exactly what awaited the young man.

In essence, he occupied the lowest rung among the elite ranks of the Martial Alliance.

He knew Qingyi would be walking into grave danger, and the thought weighed heavily on his heart, for he had developed a sincere affection for that young man.

"Xiaohu will need to gain some real combat experience soon. I’m thinking of sending him on missions to eliminate criminals—perhaps that will help awaken his bloodline," Old Ling mused aloud, stroking his gray beard.

"Send Bai Hu Lie along with him. He’s a bit wild, it’s true, but that also has its strengths. He’s excellent at killing and can terrify entire groups of pirates with a single roar."

Old Ling agreed with Qingyi’s words, rising from the bench with a slight crack of his aging joints.

"In any case, I imagine you have your own matters to attend to, young man... and this old man has his as well. If you need anything, just stop by my pavilion."

Qingyi nodded silently, watching Old Ling’s stooped figure walk away down the path.

Shaking his head slightly, he rose to his feet.

He watched Xiaohu and Bai Hu Lie trade a few more blows for a moment before turning his back on the field and taking flight toward the palace.

Upon arriving, he went straight to Tianjin, who, as usual, was in his office, buried behind a veritable mountain of documents.

Trade agreements, diplomatic treaties, disputes among the major sects...

There were countless important matters that needed to pass directly before his eyes.

When Qingyi entered the room, Tianjin looked up, and the weary expression on his face faded almost instantly.

"Ah... son-in-law." Tianjin leaned back in his chair, a relaxed smile spreading across his lips. "Are you ready?"

"Yes," Qingyi replied, without a single trace of hesitation in his voice.

Over the past few weeks, he had made more than a thousand attempts to slip through the alliance’s spatial arrays undetected.

With the arrays running at their maximum potential, and even with more than ten Celestial Emperors sweeping the region with their divine senses, he had managed to breach the defenses on average 997 out of every 1,000 attempts.

It was a monstrous success rate, especially when one considered that all of his few failures had occurred precisely at the moments when he was too exhausted to maintain his focus.

"I’ll prepare the spaceship and the infiltration team immediately. You get some rest." Tianjin stood up, letting out a hearty laugh. "That damned pig has no idea what he’s about to lose right under his own nose, hahahaha."
