The acquisition of 'Cheong-yeon Studio', the company that had handled production of 'House of the Daytime Moon', picked up speed in a hurry. Lee Chan-hoo, Ha Yeon-ji, and Cha Chung-hyeon were all on it, and there was also help from Director Hong Man-seop, who was now part of 'MEG.'

"I look forward to working with you."

"Haha, the pleasure's mine. It feels like just yesterday that I met 'MEG' and Lee Chan-hoo CEO-nim, and now look how things have turned out."

'Cheong-yeon Studio' was a domestic animation production house looking for a running mate. A partner to sprint alongside it in developing homegrown animated films, that is. The domestic animation market had been barren for far too long, and just because 'House of the Daytime Moon' had done well, that current wasn't going to flip overnight.

So 'Cheong-yeon Studio' needed a reliable backer. A backer who would keep showering it with steady interest and money.

'Cheong-yeon Studio' chose 'MEG', with whom it already had ties, as that backer. As for vetting it as a parent company, that had already been settled with 'House of the Daytime Moon'.

In any case, 'Cheong-yeon Studio', which would go through the formal acquisition process, was set to have its company name changed going forward, just like the other subsidiaries.

'FrameMEG' was the new name.

With this, 'MEG' now had three subsidiaries: 'FrameMEG', 'MEG Entertainment', and 'FilmMEG'. There was no rapid growth quite like this rapid growth. Once 'MEG' got more famous, the industry would be clicking its tongue in disbelief. That said, the subsidiaries still weren't all that big yet, so there was more running to do.

Meanwhile, over in the workshop, Choi Ri-na was recalling what her commander, Kang Jae-ha, had told her.

'Good, then your composer alias will be 'Rina', and from now on we'll circulate your songs far and wide but keep every contract non-face-to-face. There's a need to stay hidden until the time is right.'

Of course, Kang Jae-ha hadn't told Choi Ri-na the complicated reasons. The point was to conceal the fact that the composer 'Rina' was connected to 'MEG', but Choi Ri-na wasn't particularly curious about that sort of thing.

"The commander-nim will handle it however he sees fit!"

Because she trusted Jae-ha. And no wonder, since recently Kang Jae-ha had sold Choi Ri-na's songs to none other than 'Seriel'. Two of them, even.

Just then the hulking man struck up a conversation with Choi Ri-na. It was Go Chun-seok, who had been moving around with Choi Ri-na lately.

"The song you wrote, you're signing a contract for it?"

Choi Ri-na's eyes crinkled into a smile as she answered quickly.

"Of course I have to!"

"Good for you. The commander-nim, as expected. Results come out right away."

"That's what I'm saying! And on top of that, the place that bought the song is 'Seriel'!! You know it too, right, oppa?? 'Seriel'?"

"......Oppa?"

"Ah! I just figured I'd call my colleagues oppa or unnie!"

"Hm. Ahem, I know 'Seriel'. They're famous, aren't they."

"Not just famous! They're sooooo huge! Top-tier, top-tier. They've got name recognition in Japan and overseas too! Getting a song contract with a girl group like that is, like, insanely hard, you know!!"

"I see."

"Yeah! Totally! Even the most hotshot composers have to line up!"

Bouncing up and down, Choi Ri-na explained just how incredible this song deal was. Go Chun-seok, who listened in silence, slowly scratched his chin with a thick finger. Looking at Choi Ri-na, he was reminded of their days in the Mercenary Corps.

'She was cheerful back then too, but she's had even higher energy since coming over to this side.'

Compared to the statue-like Go Chun-seok, Choi Ri-na was the exact opposite type, but the hulking Go Chun-seok didn't mind her high spirits. Just looking at her was invigorating.

"The commander-nim's ability was probably a big part of it, but the song you wrote must've been good too."

"Huh?? What, what? You can throw out lines like that? That's unexpected."

Feeling oddly awkward, Go Chun-seok cleared his throat again. At any rate, Choi Ri-na was planning to proceed with the contract with Leon Entertainment non-face-to-face. The contract would be electronic. This kind of non-face-to-face method was fairly common between composers and singers. There were even composers who never revealed their faces at all.

The contract itself would be led by CEO Park Ja-hee of 'MEG Entertainment', not by Choi Ri-na.

Since nobody knew Choi Ri-na was the composer 'Rina' anyway, it didn't matter.

Then Go Chun-seok changed the subject.

"How's the music director side going."

Choi Ri-na nodded confidently and answered.

"I don't know if it's going well, but I'm studying hard and making songs! Honestly, I still don't really get it! But I get a feel for it."

"Hm."

"When I look at a work and then imagine the work I've seen, an image comes to mind, and I keep expanding that image, and around that point musical ideas just start pouring out."

This was talk of Choi Ri-na's 'ability'.

"I refine those, and then imagine the image again... it's not finished, but do you want to hear the song I've made so far??"

"......"

Go Chun-seok couldn't bring himself to refuse Choi Ri-na's request, made with her eyes crinkled into a smile. Her energy was just too powerful. On top of that, there had been instructions from Kang Jae-ha.

'Her PTSD recovery matters too. There's nothing big you need to do, Go Chun-seok. Just spend time with her, that's all.'

Soon enough Go Chun-seok nodded solemnly.

"As much as you like."

That same afternoon, Leon Entertainment.

Kang Jae-ha could be found in Management Team 4.

"......"

There he was, arms folded, staring at his laptop. His expression was rather dry. To others it might have looked like he was spacing out. In fact, a few employees passing by him tilted their heads in puzzlement. But Kang Jae-ha wasn't blankly drifting off into daydreams.

'Director Hong Man-seop, Cheong-yeon Studio, that's all wrapped up now-'

He was organizing the blueprint inside his head. The future master plan for 'MEG' and himself, that is. There was still more running to do, but quite a few things had moved forward and produced results.

'The pace isn't bad either.'

On top of that, he had to think about his subordinates too. Naturally, his subordinates were included in the design Jae-ha had drawn up. Their future positions, duties, and so on.

Next was sorting out figures like Yoon Da-yeon, An Ji-hee, and Oh Jong-man.

'For now, I'll move Yoon Da-yeon over to 'MEG Entertainment' first.'

It was at that moment.

"Hm?"

In an instant, Kang Jae-ha's brow twitched. With good reason.

'Deja Vu.'

Because his vision had abruptly begun to ripple. A sense of familiarity wafting up. Right now there was no one in front of Jae-ha. In other words, 'Deja Vu' had surfaced without a protagonist present.

'It's the same as with Kim Ho-yeon and Go Chun-seok.'

In short, this 'Deja Vu' had to do with a subordinate from the Mercenary Corps.

In no time, what Kang Jae-ha saw was not the Team 4 office but a different space. Third person, as expected.

γ€ŽIt was a fairly crowded street. Everyone was walking along with their own circumstances, and among the throng a somewhat bulky woman stood out. Her gait was striding and unhesitating. The well-built woman walked, then stopped. She turned her head. She looked at her own reflection in the glass of the shop right beside her.

Short hair, her face flushed red, whether from drinking or something else.

She smiled. It was a smile twisted somewhere.

After drawing a long breath, the woman snorted hard through her nose and moved her hand. She slipped her hand into the crossbody bag slung over her shoulder. There was the sound of metal. It was the sound of several One-piece Knives clinking against each other. The knives came in all different sizes.

The corners of the woman's mouth rose again. Then she murmured under her breath.

"It's today. Today's the day. Heh heh."

Just then her phone let out a short notification. The woman pulled out the phone, scratched up among the One-piece Knives. A text had arrived on the phone.

-August/ 25th/ PM 7:22

-Customer Yang Na-hee, notice of overdue loan interest.

Yang Na-hee appeared to be her name, and having checked the text, Yang Na-hee spat out a curse.

"What bullshit, morons."

She slammed the phone in her hand down onto the ground. The people walking nearby were startled. Couldn't care less, Yang Na-hee strode off again. She entered the subway station. It was Sinsa Station. Passing through the turnstile, Yang Na-hee descended the stairs.

Her steps were unhesitating.

By the time Yang Na-hee reached the bottom of the stairs, there were many people waiting for the train. Looking around, she cackled.

"That's right, this is it."

Yang Na-hee drew a One-piece Knife from the bag on her shoulder. She lunged at a male student in a school uniform standing in front of her. The knife went into his abdomen and neck and came back out. But Yang Na-hee didn't stop. The next target was the woman standing right beside him. The knife in Yang Na-hee's hand danced.

That said, Yang Na-hee wasn't swinging the knife around at random. She stabbed exactly where she wanted, firmly and without any waste. It was professional.

The stabbing spree had begun. The scene was utter chaos.

Then the image rippled. Yang Na-hee vanished and a news anchor appeared.

"At Sinsa Station, an indiscriminate stabbing incident has occurred, leaving 3 people dead and 5 seriously injured."』

At this point, Kang Jae-ha's vision wavered once more and snapped back to reality. Jae-ha's expression was deeply grave. The instant his laptop came into view, Kang Jae-ha checked the time.

-August/ 25th/ PM 6:02

The moment he saw it, Kang Jae-ha bolted up from his seat and ran.

Because there were only 1 hour and 20 minutes left until the incident he'd seen in 'Deja Vu'.

"Fuck!"

About an hour later.

A well-built woman had just passed through the Sinsa Station turnstile. Eyes and a smile laced with madness, a crossbody bag slung over her shoulder. It was Yang Na-hee. She strode down the stairs and scanned the people waiting for the train.

The corners of red-faced Yang Na-hee's mouth twitched.

"That's right, this is it."

A whirlwind of emotions surged in her chest. Mostly something akin to a thrill. Excitement was in there too. To Yang Na-hee's eyes, the people standing around her didn't look like people.

Demonic Beasts, or targets of attack.

Let's kill them. Yang Na-hee slid her hand into the crossbody bag. A jangling metallic sound rang out. She was selecting a weapon. Out of the One-piece Knives of all different sizes, Yang Na-hee drew the longest one.

Gripping the One-piece Knife tightly, Yang Na-hee raised her head.

A male student in a school uniform was within reach. The lean-bodied boy was on the phone. Having marked the male student as her first target, Yang Na-hee strode forward. Not a shred of hesitation in her steps, utterly unflinching. A few people who spotted the woman gripping the knife screamed.

"Th-that woman!"

"Kyaa!!"

It was only then that the uniformed male student turned his head. The distance to Yang Na-hee was about five steps. And even that was closing in the blink of an eye. The student with his phone pressed to his ear had spotted Yang Na-hee, but.

"Huh?"

He could do nothing. Even though he saw the knife in her hand. Because his thoughts froze and his body locked up. Yang Na-hee smiled. She raised the knife in her hand slightly. She spoke to the now-closer student.

"First, you."

In that instant, Yang Na-hee licked her lips. Because she was imagining such things, spilling entrails, bursting blood. When the distance to the student was about three steps, Yang Na-hee gripped the knife even more firmly.

It was at that moment.

-Swsh.

Suddenly, someone cut in between Yang Na-hee and the student. A man with cold eyes and a blank expression. He met Yang Na-hee's gaze with a soulless look. There was a slight hitch for Yang Na-hee, but nothing much had changed. As if it made no difference, her smile deepened.

"Whatever, fuck. Then you first."

She drew another One-piece Knife from the crossbody bag. It was a shorter knife than the one in her right hand. Yang Na-hee fixed her gaze on the cold-eyed man's neck. With the knife in her right hand she'd slit that throat, and with the knife in her left she'd stab the bastard behind him in the gut.

Having laid out her plan, Yang Na-hee thrust the knife forward fast.

The target was the cold-eyed man's throat.

-Whoosh!

But.

"......Eh?"

Yang Na-hee's right hand, surging fiercely, came to a dead stop. The knife she'd been thrusting also faltered. Soon Yang Na-hee dropped the knife in her left hand. Abruptly she began to hiccup, clutching at her chest. By now the screams of the people around her were ear-splitting, and the cold-eyed man, Yang Na-hee's first target, let out a small sigh.

"......"

For some reason, Yang Na-hee kept hiccuping and then slumped to the ground.

"Khh... khk!"

She thrashed and drooled all over herself. Her eyes went bloodshot. Yang Na-hee felt an agonizing pain as if someone were wringing her heart, and she couldn't breathe. Why? What the hell was happening? It didn't make sense. The thrill, the ecstasy, was right there in front of her. So why the hell was she sprawled out on the floor.

Her vision steadily going dark, Yang Na-hee sensed it. I'm dying.

There had been no warning sign whatsoever.

There had been no problem at all.

If she had to name one thing, it was only that her target right before the slaughter had switched from the male student to that cold-eyed man. As the screams and shouts grew more desperate, Yang Na-hee's violent thrashing subsided.

She merely hiccuped faintly.

Squeezing out her last strength, Yang Na-hee rolled her eyes upward, hiccuping all the while. Half her vision was dark, but she could faintly make out the cold-eyed man. The man's face was so calm, so composed. Who the hell are you. There was no way she could know. Because it was the 'Mask'. He looked down at Yang Na-hee in silence with a chilling gaze, and then.

"......"

He turned and walked away.
