Chapter 15 - An Untold Story.
Surprisingly, the magic trap did not set off when they opened the notebook. Then they began reading the notebook which began to itch Felicia's curiosity.
What could have been written in such a notebook?
Although she wanted to rush ahead and watch from above, she was still worried about the magic trap that they may have set off. Sure enough, after some careful glancing, she noticed some runes being set up around the place and quickly got out of the cave. Then, looking at it she watched as a magical starry bubble layer went and covered the cave entrance locking the party inside.
Just in case, Felicia brought another tool out just for this occasion. A peeping magic crystal that allowed free ability to monitor within a magic circle. This crystal happened to be able to sneak in and take control of any surveillance capabilities within a formation. Most area covering formations would have surveillance of some kind so this tool was pretty useful.
Through it, she obtained the ability to monitor the hero party that was currently stuck in a tough fight within the cave. Around them was a bunch of weird creations that seemed to be made up of starry slime. These weird slimes all went and took on the shape of the person they were facing so it seemed like they were facing a starry slime version of themselves.
Although they reflected the image of their opponents, they simply used their own abilities instead which normally would make it easier, but there were simply too many of them and they simply swarmed the hero party.
She watched as the fight continued on for a few minutes until they all started to lock in and take down the others quite simply. They then began to break through like a raging tide with the hero who once again revealed his true strength once more to get them out of this occasion.
Just in case, she went and prepared baths for them when they returned. For letting her watch such an entertaining fight, this was the least she could do. So she revealed herself in front of the coach men of the carriage and informed him that she would be making a roughly made bath house for the hero party when they returned since they would likely want a bath.
After once agin reassuring him of their safety, she then quickly built a makeshift wood house for private bathing made using the Void Hands spell to fell trees to make the houses.
Then she poured the water and heated them up with a magic circle she searched for among the Akashic Records in the comfortable living section.
When she finished, she went to bathe first and relaxed in the cool waters. She personally liked a cooler bath so she separated the areas by temperature for herself.
After relaxing for a while, she suddenly realized that she left her observing crystal ball in the formation. Oh well. What are the chances that they happen to find the location of the crystal ball?
Meanwhile, Wendy who was more cautious due to having just faced such a situation turned to look at an area with a magic signature in the cave and brought the rest of the party over to search around.
Then they found the crystal ball and it suddenly started to reach out to them. Just in case, Wendy went to check it out and she found that it was a tool that Felicia used to watch them in the formation while she stayed safe and snug outside.
A little upset that she simply watched their situation from a safe distance, the group decided that they would blackmail her for the crystal ball when they got back in exchange for them fighting so hard when she could have entered at any time to help them out.
So they headed out and saw the coachman who had returned from a bath himself. Then he informed the group of what she did and pointed them in the direction of the baths.
With this, they were less upset at her obviously watching the fire from a distance and not helping, but that still did not mean they would let her go scot-free.
So the party headed there to clean off all of the battle damage while remembering to bring their extra sets of clothes to change afterwards.
When the girls of the group arrived, they saw the girl lying in the bath with her head on the side of the tub relaxing.
Feeling extra mischievous, when the witch girl came close and saw that she was fast asleep, she then reached towards her cheeks to pull them.
Seeming to feel it in her dream, she started frowning and trying to swat away at the offending hand.
Not letting go of her, Wendy then went to tickling and tickled her awake.
"Haha! Wha-what's going... HA!" The demon girl quickly laughed since it seemed she was a lot more ticklish than expected.
On the side, the Saintess Mellie watched the goings on with a smile on her face as she bathed herself. Vanessa simply scoffed as she joined Mellie.
Soon the whole bathroom was filled with cheer as the two began fighting in the water.
"It should be time, get to bathing quickly. You don't want Luke to be kept waiting do you?" Mellie said to Wendy.
Quickly calming down, she went and bathed quickly before heading out with an exhausted Felicia.
They then all met with Luke while he was out waiting outside the wooden house.
"You are all better now. Oh? Was she in there?" the hero said. He then saw Felicia melting while being held in Wendy's arms.
Then they all headed back towards the carriage as the others began explaining the contents of the notebook.
Apparently, a few years ago there was a summoning mage who wanted to learn space magic. He did not have any access to books on space magic and only conjecture since space magic could only be found in the treasured royal libraries of various countries. Thus he had to find his own path forward in magic so he sought out many books till he found one held by a cultists group.
According to them, they summoned creatures from outside the plane through summoning magic made through large rituals and sacrifices which is said to bring them from other spaces. This idea fascinated him and he spent his later years exploring various places and making various rituals in order to replicate the summoning across different planes that the cultists spoke of.
Unfortunately, he forgot the hard fast rule when facing cultists.
That they are crazy and that listening to what they say let alone doing what they would only make you just as crazy. He eventually did succeed and managed to make contact with a being from the outside, but they could not fully be summoned over and instead sent some minions over which were the starry slimes that appeared before.
Those slimes had stripped the man of his flesh and devoured it leaving just a skeleton. Then, using the knowledge extracted from his brain, made the trap maze in order to potentially lure others in to kill and devour them.
Their evil plan was just beginning, but now were foiled since the hero party arrived and cleared them all. Unfortunately for them, they had to face one of the strongest groups in the world before they finished growing up.
So the story was that a greedy guy made a contract with some evil being from being influenced by crazy cultists. It didn't sound that interesting in the end and so Felicia simply snoozed through it until something interesting popped up about a crystal ball.
Pulling out the crystal ball, Wendy showed a sinister smile on her face while holding Felicia and whispered in her ear.
"You would not be the one who was simply spying on us when she could have helped right? You definitely did not just watch as we struggled so hard?"
With an audible gulp, Felicia stared up at her eyes and then quietly responded back.
"...maybe?"
Some more jovial laughter appeared as they finally reached the carriage and now it was Vanessa holding both Wendy and Felicia over her shoulders like sacks of potatoes and brought them into the carriage.
All of their frolicking around right after relaxing in the bath tuckered them out so they were all sleepy. the only one who could pick them up without the situation being awkward was Vanessa because Mellie was not that strong and having a guy carry them would be a bit strange.
Then they all returned into the tents erected by the carriage to rest for today. Since the battle was quite fierce, they had to fully rest in order to get ready.
When Felicia later woke up, she was already moving in the carriage. Seeing the inside of the carriage, she was a little confused at first and when she realized she opened the carriage window to get out, but then was interrupted half way through.
"Are you awake?" Said the hero who was by the window.
Because most of the rest were resting, she thought that the hero would be too but was then surprised at his sudden awakening.
"Are you going to watch over from above as usual? Why don't you stay and adventure with us for a bit on foot? Maybe it will be an enlightening experience for you?" The hero invited her to join them on their adventure instead of spectating them from above.
After thinking for a moment she asked her own question to him.
"Why do you trust me? I was sent to monitor you, after all."
He then replied with a smile and simply looked out of the window for a second.
"Because everyone deserves a chance to turn around."
"Hmm?"
"You haven't really done anything egregious to us so why should we prevent you from joining? Wasn't Mellie sent to monitor me by the church? If she can join, why can't you?"
When he said this, I saw Mellie's eyes twitch for a moment. He was facing away from her so he could not see that she was awake and listening.
After giving awry smile, she began thinking about the experiences that the hero party has had since she began watching them...
From fighting to exploring and having fun together. She had not had such feelings when she was with Alice so it was a feeling that she wanted to experience.
But...
"Sorry, give me some time to think about it."
Eventually, she knew that the two sides may clash. Rather than increase the bonds that they already made now, it might be better if this bond is cut earlier.
Due to inheriting some of the knowledge from Alice, she knew about scenarios like this. Although she had not experienced anything like it, she knew that during situations like this it would be better to cut off these relations. Rather than this barely blossoming friendship with this hero party she was ordered to watch over, she still would rather side with the mother who created her after all.
Since that was the case, she should leave before she got too close to them.
"Are you thinking of cutting off our connections by simply leaving now? How naive." From the carriage spoke a third voice.
The both of us turned to look at the source of the voice and saw it was Mellie. I thought she would continue being an ostrich from embarrassment, but she suddenly interjected.
"I thought that way too at first. I suppose you had not followed us from that long ago so you might not know of how we had met." Then she began to recall that day in her memories.
It was a day quite a few years ago from now. Back when she was merely a candidate saintess and not a member of the esteemed hero party.
