Chapter 1006: Chapter 1006: Dissonance

The reason Guan Hong didn’t immediately come over upon learning about the arrival of Han Jing and the others was because he had actually sent someone to secretly investigate. He was not concerned about other aspects, but about what Ning’er was doing with them.

The investigation results surprised him. Ordinarily, Ning’er would mostly chat with young girls or take people out for tea and to listen to opera, occasionally standing up for righteousness and doing nothing else. But ever since being with these people, he hasn’t sought out young girls to build bonds nor caused any trouble; instead, he’s visited many places. According to the results he gathered, these days, Ning’er’s life has been rich and rather meaningful.

This made him a bit worried.

Other families might wish for their children to become increasingly excellent, but he only wished for him to be safe. As long as he harbors no ill intentions and does nothing against conscience or nature, he would be content.

So, he is both worried about Ning’er learning bad habits from others and worried that he might learn too well.

Only by knowing nothing and being indifferent can he live peacefully and happily, without thinking of leaving Guan Mountain Island.

He has his unavoidable difficulties, too.

So be it, fortunately, these people are leaving, so he doesn’t have to worry any longer. As for the future, he hopes that Ning’er hasn’t been too affected by them, for better or for worse. As long as he doesn’t leave Guan Mountain Island, he will be relieved.

"There are passages from Guan Mountain Island to other islands. At noon and midnight each day, there is an exit in the due east and due west directions, respectively. Once past the barrier, you can follow the passage to another island." Guan Hong glanced at Su Yu and Han Jing: "With your capabilities, crossing the barrier is an easy task. Anyone with power at the Blue Flame Level can pass through the barrier. To prevent unforeseen incidents, there are guards at the passage entrance. Anyone passing through must have the Island Master’s token. That’s not difficult; I’ll give it to you."

Guan Hong took out a token and gave it to Su Yu: "These days, I’ve heard that your influence on Ning’er has been positive. I am very grateful. I only wish for him to live peacefully on Guan Mountain Island, so I hope you can understand my sentiments. If there has been any neglect, I ask for your forgiveness."

Su Yu cupped his hands slightly: "It is us who have disturbed."

Guan Hong seemed unwilling to have a deep conversation with Han Jing and the others, so he casually said a couple of sentences before preparing to leave. Han Jing stood up to see him out, but at the door, Han Jing couldn’t resist asking: "Island Master, do you have some unspeakable difficulties? Compared to the current life, perhaps A Ning wants to be a qualified successor, to become a useful person."

If it was mere speculation before, Han Jing is now almost certain that Guan Shining was raised that way by Guan Hong deliberately, as if he didn’t want him to know too much, intentionally nurturing him in a frivolous manner. To say that Guan Hong harbors ill intentions is certainly impossible. His love for his son is something Han Jing can see. So Han Jing couldn’t quite understand, clearly caring so much about this son, why not hope for him to become more excellent, responsible, and accountable, but instead find ways to raise him poorly?

From whatever angle, it all seems a bit off.
