The Demon with Holy Radiance

Chapter 622 - 354: Great Merit (2)

Just today, a scout reported that signs of a Monk had been spotted near a Demon Fiend lair to the south. It seemed he was exterminating fiends.

Although it was uncertain if he was from the Great Virtue Temple, in their eyes, all monks were cut from the same cloth. As long as he was a Monk, he was basically a Buddhist Cultivator from the Great Virtue Temple. Whether he truly was or not didn’t matter—capturing him and bringing him back to the Sect would be a great accomplishment.

Six Zombie Gods had come, all of them raring to go. Being assigned to guard the Sect’s Mountain Gate and unable to participate in the great war was frustrating enough. Who would have thought a chance to earn merit would appear right at home? This was basically a freebie delivered to their doorstep; it would be a waste not to take it.

With their power, even if that bald donkey was a Zombie God, capturing him would be a piece of cake.

The group soon arrived at the location the scout had discovered and immediately smelled an unusual aura.

A great battle had occurred here. The lingering, foul stench of Demon Fiends filled the air. And within their perception, an aura seemed to have sensed their arrival and was now fleeing.

"Get him!"

At the command, the group moved swiftly to intercept the fleeing person, quickly surrounding him.

Before them was a sturdy-looking bald man. Though he had no discipline scars on his head, he wore a gray Monk’s Robe. He was currently on high alert, clearly surprised by their arrival.

This made the members of the Golden Thread Pavilion even more certain that this guy was one of those bald donkeys from the Great Virtue Temple.

Neither side spoke a word, as if they both already knew the other’s intentions.

The bald man stared at the group, outwardly looking for any chance to escape, but inwardly, he was ecstatic.

This was Yang An, who had come here to infiltrate the Golden Thread Pavilion. He had merely used a small trick, pretending to be someone associated with the Great Virtue Temple, and sure enough, he had drawn out the people from the Pavilion.

"You little brat, should we kill them all?"

the Bow Lady asked. She hadn’t expected Yang An to lure out the Golden Thread Pavilion’s people so quickly and effectively.

"No, killing one is enough. I’ll let you devour one first, then we’ll figure out the next step."

’I don’t detest the Golden Thread Pavilion as much as I do the Great Virtue Temple,’ Yang An thought. ’If I didn’t absolutely have to enter the Golden Thread Pavilion to find the Forbidden Artifact Fragment, I wouldn’t want to attack their members. But this has to be done. It’s obstructing my advancement to the Insect Dao, so my personal preferences don’t matter anymore.’

In the eyes of the Golden Thread Pavilion members, his behavior undoubtedly meant he was preparing to counter-attack at any moment.

Without another word, the group immediately prepared to strike.

Under the effect of his Illusion Technique, Yang An’s Cultivation Level appeared to be merely at the Zombie God realm in their eyes. Since every one of them was also a Zombie God, they believed Yang An couldn’t escape even if he grew wings.

But to everyone’s surprise, the moment they attacked, Yang An pretended to find an opportunity to escape, only to suddenly lash out. Before any of them could react, he slammed into their leader.

In the next second, the leader was instantly blown to pieces. Amidst a bloodcurdling scream, his shattered body erupted in raging flames and was quickly reduced to black ash.

Only then did the other members’ attacks land, instantly pinning Yang An to the spot.

The sudden death of their comrade left the others stunned for a moment. By the time they came to their senses, he was already dead and gone, his very essence erased.

The remaining members immediately flew into a rage, unleashing their fury on the subdued Yang An and attacking him with every technique they had.

Meanwhile, Yang An was simply waiting for the Bow Lady to digest the soul she had just devoured. He was just putting on an act, pretending to resist for his life.

Before long, the Bow Lady finally sent a message:

"The Golden Thread Pavilion is currently only guarded by a group of Zombie God-level Cultivators and below. The Pavilion Master, Thirty Flow, has already led all the Elders to the battlefield at the Great Virtue Temple. The battle between the two sides has reached a fever pitch, so the sect is at its most vulnerable."

"Are you sure everyone left?"

"They all left. However, there’s no information about the Golden Thread Pavilion’s sole Immortal Platform expert, the Supreme Elder. I can’t determine his whereabouts. Although these guys were left behind to guard the Sect, their rank isn’t high enough. They don’t have the clearance to know such inside information."

Hearing the Bow Lady’s words, Yang An finally breathed a sigh of relief. ’This makes sense,’ he thought.

’The whereabouts of an expert at the Immortal Platform realm aren’t something low-level members would know. If even these guys knew where their Supreme Elder went, that would be truly strange. It would most likely be misinformation deliberately spread by the Golden Thread Pavilion to confuse outsiders.’

’If even they don’t know where the Sect’s bigwigs have gone, it most likely means they’ve all gone to join the war. After all, without an Immortal Platform expert making a move, it would be very difficult to determine a winner in the war between the Great Virtue Temple and the Golden Thread Pavilion.’

With this, Yang An grew confident. Now he could start planning his infiltration of the Golden Thread Pavilion. As long as he got inside, found the location of the Forbidden Artifact Fragment, and retrieved it as quickly as possible, this trip would be a success.

"What’s your plan?"

the Bow Lady asked curiously. Even she, who spent every day with Yang An, often found it hard to guess his thoughts.

"Let myself be captured, of course. There’s no faster way."

Yang An smiled, then began to beg the Golden Thread Pavilion members for mercy in heart-wrenching agony. Although their attacks seemed ferocious, landing on him all at once, they hadn’t actually caused him the slightest bit of harm. He was just playing along.
