’Moon Shadow?’
The name of the Forbidden Artifact Fragment appeared in the information box, and Yang An froze the moment he saw it.
’Not Golden Sun?’
It wasn’t even one of the Three Spiritual Light that the Golden Sun Daoist had mentioned.
The Three Spiritual Light were Golden Sun, Jade Mirror, and Taibai. But the name of this Forbidden Artifact Fragment was Moon Shadow.
As he read on and saw the specific details of this Forbidden Artifact Fragment, Yang An was utterly dumbfounded. A terrifying thought instantly surfaced in his mind.
’Fake!’
The Forbidden Artifact Fragment in his hand was a fake, a replica created and disguised by another Forbidden Artifact Fragment whose real name was Moon Shadow!
In other words, the call he had felt from the Forbidden Artifact Fragment was also a sham.
Moon Shadow could replicate and disguise itself as anything—even another Forbidden Artifact Fragment.
According to the description of its cost, fusing with this Forbidden Artifact Fragment would bring immense pain. Moreover, both the user and any previously fused Forbidden Artifact Fragments within their body would be corrupted and assimilated. Finally, the original fragments would be stripped away.
In short, upon fusion, this Forbidden Artifact Fragment would replace all the Forbidden Artifacts he had already integrated into his body.
It was like a vengeful spirit lurking in the abyss, waiting for the right moment to drag someone into the water and force them to take its place!
Beneath the Moon Shadow, terror lurked in the abyss!
Just as Yang An discovered the fragment’s true nature, before he had time to react, the Golden Sun Daoist spoke again.
"My time is running out," he stressed again.
"I’m giving you this Golden Sun Fragment. Fuse with it now, while I still have some strength left. Let me help you form the complete Forbidden Artifact and break through your limits."
The voice drifted faintly into Yang An’s ears, making the Golden Sun Daoist sound incredibly weak.
Though he was just a ball of fire with no face, Yang An suddenly imagined a sinister, smiling face lurking beneath the flames.
’This guy is one hell of an actor!’
Yang An’s thoughts raced. If this fragment was a fake, then the Golden Sun Daoist before him had to be a fake, too. Everything he had said was a lie.
’The Three Spiritual Light? It was all just a fabrication.’
No wonder he’d never heard the name Golden Sun Daoist before. A figure of such stature shouldn’t be completely unknown among cultivators.
’Now it was clear. The guy was just trying to trick me into fusing with this Forbidden Artifact Fragment.’
’First, he’d appeared and explained the Creator’s origins, using the story to gain my trust. He wanted me to lower my guard so I wouldn’t be suspicious of this Forbidden Artifact Fragment.’
’Then, after I had the fragment, he’d keep luring me, making me careless until I finally fused with it right in front of him.’
Once he fused with it, the outcome would be exactly as the fragment’s description warned: Yang An would be plunged into agony, bear a heavy cost, and be corrupted and assimilated. He would lose all his original Forbidden Artifact Fragments and fall right into the trap.
’What a brilliant scheme!’
If not for his own unique ability—one no one could have predicted—that allowed him to identify the fragment’s true nature just by touching it, he would have undoubtedly fallen for the ploy.
Even the Golden Sun Daoist could never have imagined that Yang An had unraveled his entire plot with a single touch.
"Don’t waste time. Without a Guardian, the process of fusing a complete Forbidden Artifact is extremely dangerous. One misstep, and you’ll be annihilated, not even your bones will remain."
Seeing Yang An’s silence, the Golden Sun Daoist seemed to grow anxious. He didn’t let it show too much, however, and continued to press him.
Yang An sneered inwardly, gripping the Forbidden Artifact Fragment tightly.
’Since this guy wants to put on a show, I might as well play along. I’ll see what his true objective really is.’
If he were truly the Creator of this world, Yang An would never dare to play with fire like this.
A starved camel is still bigger than a horse. No matter how weakened a former Creator might be, he was still no match for someone of that stature.
But knowing this guy was a fraud? What was there to fear?
Besides, he couldn’t leave this place. He had to buy himself some time to find a way out.
To the Golden Sun Daoist’s surprise, despite his urging, Yang An slowly set down the Forbidden Artifact Fragment, a look of regret on his face.
"Senior, forgive me, but I cannot fuse with this fragment. I’m afraid I must disappoint you and waste your kind intentions."
"What did you say?!"
The flames of the fiery orb surged in an instant, brightening the entire cave. The answer had taken the Golden Sun Daoist by surprise, and suspicion immediately took root in his mind.
Yang An quickly explained:
"To be frank, Senior, this is merely an avatar of mine. My true body is thousands of miles away, which is why I cannot fuse with the Forbidden Artifact Fragment.
But please, rest assured. I understand your charge and will not fail you. As soon as I return to my true body, I will fuse with the fragment immediately and carry out your world-saving mission. I will restore peace and order to this world!"
He delivered the speech with such force and unwavering conviction that he almost moved himself to tears. Inwardly, however, he was ecstatic.
’It’s just acting. As if he was the only one who knew how.’
He could claim to be just an avatar. Even if the Golden Sun Daoist saw through the lie and killed him here, it would be of no use.
