As of now, his fusion with the complete Golden Sun was just one part of his overall progress. He had also broken through to the Insect Dao, which meant he now needed a new Dao of Destiny Technique.
However, he no longer needed to specifically search for a Light Magic. With the control over the Power of Rules he’d gained from fusing with the Golden Sun, creating an entirely new Technique was no longer a difficult task.
Generally speaking, the Power of Rules was superior to Cultivation Techniques, which were superior to Techniques. His Cultivation System, however, linked all three together. The Power of Rules remained the most potent force, but it could now fuel his creation of new Dao of Destiny Techniques, forming a cycle.
It took two and a half months, but Yang An successfully fused with the purest Moon Forbidden Artifact and advanced to the Early Stage of the Insect Dao, which was not far off from the deadline set by the Life Crane.
With half a month to spare, he still needed to acclimate himself to the power he now wielded.
Previously, within the Earth Spirit Stele, Yang An had already obtained all the Cultivation Techniques leading up to the Immortal Platform Realm. Thus, after he advanced to the Insect Dao Realm, information about this new stage naturally surfaced in his mind.
After advancing to the Insect Dao, all the Dao of Destiny Techniques he had mastered were greatly enhanced. His physical body, honed by his Body Refining Technique, was also elevated to a whole new level.
More importantly, the full power manifested by the Power of Rules from a complete Forbidden Artifact far surpassed what was possible in its fragmented state.
In short, his combat prowess had increased dramatically, just as he had previously suspected. Once he entered this realm and mastered a complete Power of Rules, he possessed the strength to be utterly unrivaled within this Great Realm.
Unlike the Zombie God Realm, where one could fuse with an unlimited number of Forbidden Artifact Fragments, breaking through to the Insect Dao required relying on a single, complete Forbidden Artifact.
After reaching the Insect Dao Realm, a Cultivator could still fuse with other Forbidden Artifact Fragments without limit. However, to break through the Insect Dao Realm and advance to the Immortal Platform, one needed to possess either three Moon Forbidden Artifacts or nine Flower Forbidden Artifacts.
This was perhaps why the Golden Sun Daoist had created the Three Spiritual Light—three types of Power of Light Rules. As long as one gathered all Three Spiritual Light and successfully fused them, they could break through to the Immortal Platform.
Using three Moon Forbidden Artifacts or nine Flower Forbidden Artifacts to break through to the Immortal Platform might sound easy enough for a Cultivator.
Since there was no upper limit on fusing Forbidden Artifact Fragments, it meant one didn’t necessarily need pure Moon Forbidden Artifacts. As long as a Cultivator used various Forbidden Artifact Fragments to create Flower Forbidden Artifacts, they would only need nine of them to reach the Immortal Platform.
It sounded simple, but it was actually incredibly difficult.
If the Immortal Platform Realm were that easy to reach, there would be many such experts in the world. It wouldn’t be the case that Yang An had, to this day, only ever met a single one: the Life Crane.
First, there was the Mana limitation. Breaking through a realm didn’t just require fusing Forbidden Artifacts; it also demanded a massive accumulation of Mana, a process that was incredibly time-consuming.
Second, there was the risk of fusing the Forbidden Artifacts themselves.
One must not forget the price that cultivation demands. Fusing even a single Forbidden Artifact Fragment required shouldering a price; the more fragments one fused, the heavier that price became.
This alone was enough to bar the path for the vast majority of Cultivators, leading to the current situation on the Outer Continent: beings at the Immortal Platform Realm were nowhere to be seen, those in the Insect Dao Realm were few, and instead, below them, Zombie Gods and those who had undergone Corpse Transformation were as numerous as ants.
Shouldering the price was one thing; the risk of success or failure in the fusion process was another entirely.
Even though Yang An had fused with the Golden Sun Fragment and had a deep understanding of its Power of Rules, he had no absolute confidence he could fuse with the complete Golden Sun. Fortunately, with the help of the Golden Sun Daoist’s projection, the process went smoothly.
If it was like this even for him, one could only imagine how difficult it was for other Cultivators.
If the fusion of a Forbidden Artifact failed, the only outcome was complete annihilation of body and soul. The risk was immense.
This, in turn, culled another vast majority of Cultivators from the path.
This also showed that Xuan You of Jishan and the others who had previously fought Yang An—who had managed to reach the Middle and Late Stages of the Insect Dao by relying on Flower Forbidden Artifacts—were truly one-in-ten-thousand talents.
But it was precisely because they had fused with impure Flower Forbidden Artifacts, which could not compare to Moon Forbidden Artifacts, that they were ultimately slain by Yang An.
If they had a choice, who wouldn’t choose a Moon Forbidden Artifact over a Flower Forbidden Artifact?
Such was the path of cultivation. Every step forward was fraught with difficulty; there was no such thing as an easy path.
