’Should I not just simulate the Blood-Crying Insect, but also the process of it devouring and converting Mana?’
Yang An quickly thought of another possibility and wasted no time in trying it out.
The next day, it was even noisier outside the hall than before. From a distance, one could hear the commotion of many people passing by.
The situation between the Golden Thread Pavilion and Great Virtue Temple seemed to have taken a turn for the worse, as many people had already left the Floating Island one after another.
On this day, someone else came to the hall at the Golden Wave Pool, bearing the same message as the day before.
"The Pavilion Master has granted a special pardon to Elder Mu. Great Virtue Temple’s forces are attacking. The Pavilion Master hopes that Elder Mu can set aside past grievances and support the Golden Thread Pavilion’s front lines."
The messenger spoke with fear and trepidation. He was a different person from yesterday’s messenger. He had heard that this Elder Mu had brutally killed the former Internal Affairs Elder, Wen Zhao, possessed immense combat strength, and was backed by the Supreme Elder. This was not a man one could easily get along with.
If not for the Pavilion Master’s orders, no one would willingly ask for trouble by coming to the Golden Wave Pool to deliver a message.
But after waiting for a long time, no reply came from the hall at the Golden Wave Pool. It was deathly silent inside, as if the hall were completely empty.
Having received no response after a long wait, the messenger had no choice but to leave and report back.
In the evening, as the sky began to darken, a strange, blood-red light suddenly flashed within the hall at the Golden Wave Pool.
But the light only flickered for an instant. Immediately after, a large cloud of blood-mist exploded, forming into blood arrows that pierced through the hall’s walls, riddling them with holes in a split second.
"Fuck!"
Inside the hall, the smile that had just appeared on Yang An’s face vanished in an instant, replaced by a curse.
He’d almost thought he had succeeded. But then he saw that the light itself had no power—it was just ordinary light. It then condensed into countless blood arrows which, while not weak, were not what Yang An wanted.
Another failure.
Yang An sighed softly, but he wasn’t discouraged. He just needed to think of other methods.
’Techniques are rigid, but people are adaptable. Techniques are created by people, after all. There’s always a way.’
But just then, at this most inopportune moment, another presence flew rapidly toward the hall from the distance.
"Elder Mu, Great Virtue Temple has counterattacked and pushed back dozens of our front lines! A large number of Cultivators from Qiangui Mountain are involved. We are struggling to cope. The Pavilion Master hopes you will join the battle and has promised to compensate you generously afterward."
It was the same Cultivator who had come during the day. After relaying the Pavilion Master’s message, the messenger was already thinking of leaving.
’It’ll probably be just like earlier today—no response. I just have to deliver the Pavilion Master’s orders. The last thing I want is to anger the guy in that hall.’
But to his surprise, just as the words left his mouth and he was about to leave, a figure suddenly appeared before him like a phantom.
Seeing Yang An appear so abruptly, the messenger felt as if his Heart had stopped beating. This close, just feeling his aura was enough to make him feel like he was suffocating.
"You said a large number of Cultivators from Qiangui Mountain are involved?"
Yang An asked, his eyes narrowed, a complete change from his usual indifference.
"Y-Yes!"
The messenger stammered in reply, his heart leaping into his throat. The Yang An before him was like a terrifying Fierce Beast. Although he showed no outward signs of aggression, the messenger’s mind couldn’t help but run wild with fearful thoughts.
"Perfect timing!"
A smile spread across Yang An’s face. In a flash of light, his figure vanished from the spot.
"D-Didn’t he refuse to come out?"
It was a long while after Yang An had left that the messenger finally came to his senses and hurried back to report.
"If you ask me, he’ll come out on his own once the three days are up. It’s not like we absolutely need him to act, we just hoped someone could share some of the pressure.
Even if the Cultivators from Qiangui Mountain have joined forces with Great Virtue Temple, what does our Golden Thread Pavilion have to fear?"
Within the Central Hall of the Floating Island, besides Pavilion Master Thirty Flow, many of the Sect’s Internal Affairs Elders had gathered.
Thirty Flow had sent people to summon Yang An twice now, both times receiving no response, which had already caused a great deal of dissatisfaction among the others.
It was a fact that Yang An was powerful enough to kill Wen Zhao, but he wasn’t indispensable.
It was just that the Cultivators from Qiangui Mountain had arrived too suddenly, with so many of them joining the fray that the Golden Thread Pavilion’s side was feeling overwhelmed.
Give it another two days, and the Golden Thread Pavilion would surely be able to push them back. There was really no need to repeatedly summon that Yang An fellow.
Thirty Flow sat silently in the main seat, saying nothing. He felt the same way, but his reason for repeatedly sending for Yang An wasn’t just due to the current situation. More importantly, he wanted to show goodwill toward Yang An.
Asking Yang An to join the battle was just an excuse. His real goal was to free Yang An from his confinement sooner. Although Yang An wasn’t technically being punished, Thirty Flow needed to demonstrate sufficient goodwill.
From his perspective, he had never seen the Supreme Elder favor someone so blatantly.
No one else in the entire Golden Thread Pavilion knew that the sect had been single-handedly founded by the Supreme Elder. He wasn’t just the previous Pavilion Master; he was the true Leader of the Golden Thread Pavilion.
Thirty Flow had followed Life Crane from the very beginning and considered himself to be very familiar with him. If someone had said before that the Supreme Elder and Yang An were merely old acquaintances, he might have believed it. But after the incident with Wen Zhao, he no longer did.
