When Dominic arrived at the Vega mansion, darkness had already settled over the estate. He had already replaced the guards. From now on, every man stationed around the mansion answered directly to him.
The guards bowed respectfully as he drove through the gates.
Inside, the mansion was unusually quiet, its corridors dimly illuminated by the warm glow of the wall lamps.
Dominic climbed the stairs, his footsteps echoing softly through the silence. Just as he reached the upper floor, the bedroom door opened.
Mila stepped out. The moment her eyes fell on him, her expression changed.
"Dominic..."
Her gaze immediately landed on the thick bandage wrapped around his head. Her heart sank.
"What happened to you?" she asked anxiously. "How did you get hurt?"
Dominic gave her a reassuring smile. "Relax. Don’t worry. It was just a small accident."
He deliberately kept the truth from her.
But Mila wasn’t convinced.
"A small accident?" she repeated incredulously. "You have half your head wrapped in a bandage, and you’re calling that a small accident?"
"I’m fine," he assured her. Before she could argue, he pulled her into his arms.
Mila stiffened for a moment before slowly relaxing against him. Her arms slipped around his waist as she hugged him back.
Dominic buried his face against the crook of her shoulder, breathing in her familiar floral scent. For a moment, he simply held her.
"I was scared," he whispered. "Really scared when I heard Max had tried to kidnap you and our son." His arms tightened around her. "I thought I was going to lose you."
Mila’s heart softened.
"We are fine," she murmured. "Nothing happened to us. We were rescued before he could hurt us. Cassian is safe, and Max has been taken into custody."
Dominic closed his eyes briefly. He knew the danger was far from over, but he didn’t want to burden her with it.
"I’ve increased security around the mansion," he said. "No one will get inside again without my permission. No one will dare hurt you or our son."
Mila lifted her face and studied him. "What about Luke Bellini?"
The worry returned to her eyes. "He favors Max. Do you really think he’ll sit quietly after learning what happened? What if he comes after you? How will you deal with him?"
A faint smile touched Dominic’s lips. "Don’t worry. He can’t do anything anymore. He can no longer help Max."
Mila narrowed her eyes. She studied him carefully.
There was something different about him tonight. His voice was calm, his expression composed, and his confidence absolute. It was as if everything had already been calculated.
"How are you so sure?" she asked.
"Luke Bellini was already sick and weak. After what happened to his younger son, his condition has deteriorated even further. He won’t forgive Max for what he did to Felix."
He took her hands gently in his. "He won’t come after us."
Then his expression hardened. "And even if he does, I won’t let him win this time."
He lifted her hand and pressed a soft kiss against her knuckles.
Mila’s worries eased slightly, but they didn’t disappear. "How long are you going to pretend to be loyal to him?" she asked quietly.
There was fear in her eyes. "I want a peaceful life, Dominic. What happened today terrified me. I can’t lose Cassian. And I can’t lose you either."
Dominic pulled her gently back into his arms. "Don’t be afraid. As long as I’m alive, no one will hurt you or our son."
Mila rested her cheek against his chest. She trusted him. She always had. Still, the fear inside her refused to disappear completely.
"I know you’ll keep us safe," she whispered. "I’m just worried. The Bellini Empire is huge, powerful, and wealthy. How are you going to fight them?"
Dominic slowly released her. His gaze drifted toward the dark window.
For years, the Bellini Empire had seemed untouchable. Its wealth stretched across legitimate businesses and hidden criminal operations. Its influence reached the ports, the banks, the shipping routes, and the underworld.
The Bellinis had believed their power would last forever. But Dominic knew better.
The first pieces had already begun to fall.
"I’ve already planned everything."
Mila watched him carefully.
Dominic’s eyes remained fixed on the darkness outside. "They believed their money and influence could protect them from everything. But they were wrong."
He turned back to Mila. "They are going to lose everything they built."
He reached for her hand again and intertwined their fingers. "And this time," he murmured, "they won’t even realize who brought them down until it’s too late."
He pulled her back into his arms. A faint, cold smile appeared on his lips.

A few days later...
Chaos erupted in the office like a hurricane. Bellini Group had survived wars, betrayals, police investigations, and countless enemies. But no one had ever seen a morning like this.
The first blow came before sunrise.
A fleet of black government vehicles surrounded the Bellini port.
Authorities poured through the gates, accompanied by customs officers and armed personnel. The workers were ordered to step aside as officials sealed the warehouses and loading docks.
Within minutes, the entire port was shut down.
"Under whose authority?" one of the Bellini managers demanded.
An officer held up a document. "Government seizure order. Effective immediately."
The manager’s face drained of color. "But this is Bellini property..."
"Not anymore. Step aside."
The news reached Matteo before breakfast. "What?" He shot up from his chair. "The port has been seized?"
"Yes, sir." The assistant didn’t lift his head.
"By whom?" Matteo thundered.
"Government authorities. They claim there are irregularities in the port’s records and several violations involving customs and shipping regulations."
Matteo slammed his fist against the desk. "This is unacceptable. Call our lawyers."
"I already did."
"And?" Matteo cocked his head.
"They are trying to obtain an emergency injunction, but the authorities have sealed the facility."
Matteo’s breathing grew heavier. "Call the chief. Now."
"We have. But he said he could do nothing. It’s an order from above."
Matteo’s nostrils flared. He couldn’t accept it. "Then call someone above him. Do something, and stop this."
His assistant hesitated. "Several people aren’t answering our calls."
Matteo stared at him with disbelief. "What did you say?"
The assistant swallowed. "Several of our contacts aren’t answering. No one is willing to help us."
Matteo’s jaw tightened. He wouldn’t give up. "I’ll call them myself."
He grabbed his phone and began making calls one after another.
No response.
Some numbers went straight to voicemail. Others simply refused to connect.
His face darkened. "This is impossible."
He threw the phone away.
