Chapter 134: Chapter 134: The Wrath of the Reapers
Southern Region
The southern battlefield had already ceased to resemble a battlefield.
The earth had been torn apart by repeated clashes, enormous trees had been snapped in half, and deep scars stretched across the ground where corrupted creatures had been thrown through the forest. Yet despite the destruction already surrounding them, the number of creatures continued to increase.
From between the ruined trees came everything from low-ranking corrupted beasts to towering creatures whose bodies had been reinforced by layers of dense corruption.
Hidan stood alone among them.
His sword rested loosely in his hand.
He wasn’t surrounded because he had been cornered.
He had simply allowed them to gather.
A massive creature suddenly charged from his left, its weight causing the ground to tremble beneath every step.
Hidan waited until it was almost upon him.
Then he moved.
He stepped forward instead of retreating, slipping beneath the creature’s swinging arm while turning his body sideways. His shoulder struck the creature’s chest with enough force to change its momentum, and before it could recover, Hidan twisted his hips and drove his elbow into its jaw.
DOOM!
The creature’s head snapped sideways.
Hidan’s sword followed the movement.
SHRAAAK!
A clean diagonal cut opened across its body.
The creature was thrown several meters away.
Hidan didn’t even look at where it landed.
A second creature was already above him.
Its claws descended.
Hidan raised his sword.
CLANG!
The impact exploded outward.
Dust and broken leaves were blown away from his feet as the creature’s enormous strength crashed against his blade.
Hidan’s boots sank into the earth.
For a moment, neither moved.
Then Hidan smiled.
"Much better."
He twisted his wrist.
The creature’s claw slid off his sword.
Hidan stepped inside its reach.
His left hand caught its wrist.
His right foot swept behind its leg.
Then he pulled.
The creature’s enormous body lost its balance.
Hidan used its momentum against it, rotating underneath its arm before throwing it over his shoulder.
BOOOOOOM!
The creature slammed into the ground hard enough to create a crater.
The surrounding trees shook.
Leaves rained from their branches.
Before Hidan could straighten himself, three more creatures attacked simultaneously.
One from the front.
One from behind.
One from above.
Hidan’s eyes moved between them.
He didn’t retreat.
He rushed forward.
The first creature swung.
Hidan ducked beneath the claw.
The second attacked from behind.
He planted one hand against the ground and swung his legs upward, kicking the creature directly in the chest.
BAAAM!
It was thrown backward.
Hidan used the recoil to twist through the air.
His sword flashed.
SHING!
The third creature was cut across the torso.
Hidan landed.
The first creature turned around.
He was already there.
Their eyes met.
Hidan drove the pommel of his sword into its face.
CRACK!
The creature staggered.
He stepped forward.
One slash.
Another.
Then a final thrust.
SHRAK!
It collapsed.
More creatures rushed from every direction.
Hidan lowered his sword.
The pressure of his presence alone seemed to make the surrounding air heavier.
"Come on."
His grip tightened.
"Don’t tell me that’s all you’ve got."
The horde answered with a deafening roar.
They charged.
Hidan smiled.
And this time, he charged them.
The collision sent a shockwave through the forest.
BOOOOOOOOOOM!

Not far away, Lexie stood upon a shattered stone platform.
Her book floated beside her.
Unlike Hidan, she didn’t need to enter the horde.
She simply opened the book.
The pages turned.
"Chapter One."
A massive magic circle appeared beneath the battlefield.
The corrupted creatures looked upward.
Too late.
The earth beneath them ruptured.
KRAAAAAAAAAASH!
A column of destructive energy erupted from below, launching dozens of creatures into the sky.
Trees were bent outward by the force.
The ground trembled for several seconds afterward.
Lexie calmly turned a page.
"Chapter Two."
The magic changed.
The energy above the battlefield condensed.
Hundreds of enormous blades formed within the clouds.
The creatures attempted to flee.
Lexie watched them without expression.
"Where are you going?"
She turned the page.
"I’m not done yet."
The blades descended.
SHRAK! SHRAK! SHRAK! SHRAK!
The forest shook beneath the barrage.
Yet Lexie wasn’t finished.
The book’s pages began turning by themselves.
Magic circles appeared across the entire battlefield.
One.
Ten.
A hundred.
Then countless more.
Lexie finally raised her eyes.
"Let’s make this quicker."
The circles activated simultaneously.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
A chain of explosions swept through the southern forest.
The shockwave rolled across the ground like a storm.
Branches were ripped from trees.
The sky disappeared behind smoke.
And when the smoke finally began to clear, Lexie was still standing exactly where she had been.
Her book floated quietly beside her.
"AAH perfect."

Zyra’s battlefield was quieter.
But only because nothing survived long enough to make much noise.
She stood between the trees with both long daggers in her hands.
A corrupted creature rushed her.
Zyra didn’t move until the final instant.
Then she disappeared beneath its arm.
Her body twisted.
One dagger pierced its side.
The other cut across its knee.
SHK!
The creature dropped.
Zyra planted one foot against its body and launched herself backward.
Before she landed, another creature smashed its fist into the ground where she had been.
BOOOOOOM!
The earth cracked.
Zyra landed on a broken tree trunk.
She pushed off.
Her body rotated through the air.
A creature swung upward.
Zyra twisted sideways around the attack.
Her foot struck its face.
BAAM!
The creature’s head snapped backward.
She landed on its shoulder.
For one brief moment, she stood there.
Then both daggers flashed.
SHRAK!
She kicked away from the falling body.
Three more creatures surrounded her.
Zyra looked at them.
"...You’re persistent."
They attacked together.
The first claw came from her right.
She crossed one dagger against it.
CLANG!
The second came from behind.
Zyra rotated beneath the first creature’s arm, using its body as a shield.
The second creature’s attack struck its ally instead.
Before either could react, Zyra planted her foot against the first creature’s chest and launched herself upward.
She flipped over them.
Her daggers crossed in midair.
Then she descended.
SHRAAAAAK!
Two cuts appeared simultaneously.
Both creatures collapsed.
A fourth creature leaped toward her.
Zyra threw one dagger.
SHING!
The blade pierced its chest.
Instead of waiting for it to fall, Zyra rushed forward.
Her hand opened.
The dagger vanished from the creature.
A heartbeat later, it manifested in her hand again.
She caught it without slowing down.
Then she spun.
The two daggers crossed.
KRAK!
The corrupted creature behind her was cut apart by the crossing blades.
Zyra landed.
More were coming.
Dozens.
Then hundreds.
The ground trembled beneath their combined movement.
Zyra slowly raised both daggers.
"...Fine."
Her eyes sharpened.
"If that’s what you want."
She vanished.
The next instant, a line of destruction tore through the horde.
SHING!
Then another.
SHING!
Then another.
Zyra moved so quickly that the creatures could only react after the cuts had already appeared.
A kick sent one creature crashing into another.
A dagger redirected a claw.
A twist carried her underneath a strike.
A blade flashed across a throat.
Another pierced a weak point.
She used every opening she created immediately, chaining movement into movement until the battlefield itself seemed unable to keep track of her.
Then Zyra stopped.
Behind her, dozens of corrupted creatures collapsed almost simultaneously.
The forest became silent.
She looked over her shoulder.
"...Next."
Far across the southern region, another enormous roar shook the mountains.
Hidan’s sword collided with the claws of a high-ranking corrupted beast.
DOOOOOOOM!
Lexie’s magic erupted through the forest.
BOOOOOOM!
Zyra disappeared into another group.
And the southern front continued to fall beneath the overwhelming strength of the Reapers.
They had once been considered powerful.
Now, after receiving their new strength, the creatures surrounding them were no longer opponents.
They were simply obstacles.
And the Reapers were beginning to clear them.
