Chapter 136: Chapter 136: Crossing the Dimensional Boundary

A few months had passed.

I had turned thirteen somewhere along the way.

I had also grown a little taller.

Not by much, but enough that I could tell the difference whenever I caught my reflection in a window. I suppose that’s what happens when you keep eating properly and actually bother to sleep once in a while.

More importantly, I had made considerable progress with my power.

During those months, I spent most of my time studying the magic of different lifeforms.

Beasts.

Monsters.

Spirits.

Magical creatures.

Even several forms of life that didn’t fit neatly into any of the categories recorded in human texts.

The more I studied them, the more I realized that magic wasn’t really as simple as humans made it sound.

Different creatures perceived and used mana in completely different ways. Some relied on their bodies to circulate it, others instinctively shaped it through their souls, while certain magical creatures didn’t even appear to distinguish between their own existence and the mana surrounding them.

It was fascinating.

And, naturally, I tried incorporating what I learned into my own magic.

The result was quite useful.

My first successful summon had been a Griffin.

And a few had reached levels that would have been difficult to imagine when the organization was first established.

Everything was progressing rather smoothly.

There was, however, one thing I had been particularly interested in.

Dimensional crossing.

The ability to move between worlds.

I had spent a considerable amount of time studying it, and eventually, I managed to reach a point where I could create a stable connection between separate dimensions.

Which brought me to my current problem.

Could I actually use it to return to Earth?

I had no idea.

Theoretically, it should be possible.

But there was a rather significant difference between crossing a short distance through space and crossing the boundary between completely different worlds.

Still...

There was only one way to find out.

That evening, I was sitting on the highest roof of Starlight.

Below me, the building remained as lively as ever.

People constantly entered and left through the main doors.

Merchants.

Nobles.

Wealthy families.

Travelers.

Even important figures from the kingdom occasionally visited.

Starlight had grown considerably since its establishment.

At this point, it had become the number one business in the kingdom.

Not exactly what I had originally intended.

But money was money.

I rested my chin against my hand and looked down at the crowd.

"So..."

I slowly stood.

"Earth."

The word felt strangely familiar.

I hadn’t thought about that world in a long time.

I wondered what had changed since I left.

Then again, I had more important things to worry about.

Such as whether dimensional crossing would actually work.

I looked toward the evening sky.

"I’m still not completely sure whether this can take me back to Earth."

I raised one hand.

"Or whether I can cross to another planet."

Mana began gathering.

At first, nothing seemed to happen.

Then the atmosphere changed.

The air above Starlight became unnaturally still.

The sounds from the streets below gradually faded—not because the people had stopped making noise, but because the space around me had begun separating itself from the world.

The sky darkened.

Not because night had arrived.

The light itself seemed to be bending away from the area above Starlight.

A faint distortion appeared in the air.

Then another.

The two distortions overlapped.

Space twisted.

The stars above me stretched into impossibly long lines before snapping back into place.

I took a deep breath.

"Well..."

I exhaled slowly.

"Better to try than spend the rest of my life wondering."

I gathered more mana.

The effect was immediate.

The roof beneath my feet remained perfectly intact, yet the space surrounding me began to tremble as though the entire world had suddenly become a thin sheet of glass.

A massive magical circle formed beneath me.

It wasn’t a simple teleportation formation.

There were no ordinary runes.

No familiar elemental symbols.

The circle consisted of countless layers rotating independently of one another, each one representing a different spatial coordinate.

Some rotated clockwise.

Others moved in the opposite direction.

Several layers of the formation appeared to exist at different depths despite occupying the exact same space, rotating independently as though each one belonged to a different plane of reality. At the very center, a tiny point of darkness emerged, but it wasn’t simply black; it was as though something had created a hole in the world itself, leaving behind an absence where even light seemed incapable of existing.

The point slowly expanded, and the entire magical formation responded.

The countless layers accelerated, their rotations becoming increasingly difficult to follow as the space above Starlight began to distort around them. The stars stretched into long trails of light, the evening sky bending toward the center of the formation as though the world itself were being pulled into it.

For the briefest moment, something appeared beyond the distortion.

I could see an ocean extending beneath a completely unfamiliar sky, followed by the outline of a city illuminated by countless lights. Then the scene changed again, revealing a vast field covered in snow before another landscape flashed into view, each one disappearing almost as quickly as it appeared.

None of them belonged to this world.

I stared at the distortion for a moment.

"So it works."

A small smile appeared on my face.

"Now let’s see where this takes me."

I stepped forward.

The moment my foot crossed the center of the formation, the surrounding space folded inward. There was no explosion, no flash of light, and not even the slightest disturbance to the building beneath me; my body simply began to disappear as though the world had lost its ability to recognize that I was still there.

The dimensional boundary closed immediately afterward, the countless layers of the formation collapsing into that single point of darkness before vanishing completely. The distorted sky returned to normal, the evening wind flowed across the rooftop once again, and the sounds of the people below gradually became clear.

The roof of Starlight was empty.

I was already gone.
