Chapter 181: Chapter 182: Bringing Back a Piece of Earth

A few days passed after Ares finished his investigation of the Seoul S-Rank Gate.

He had already learned enough about Earth to understand the situation, and although there were still countless things he wanted to investigate, he couldn’t remain there indefinitely.

There were people waiting for him in the other world.

More importantly, he had made a promise.

Draven.

Cedric.

And Astra.

The three of them had been waiting patiently for the things he had promised to bring back.

So, before leaving Earth, Ares decided to make one final trip into the city.

This time, however, he wasn’t going there to investigate anything.

He was going shopping.

The first store Ares entered was considerably larger than the electronics shops he had visited before.

It was a massive technology retailer occupying several floors of a commercial building, with smartphones, tablets, computers, televisions, gaming consoles, headphones, cameras, and countless other devices displayed throughout the store.

Ares walked directly toward the tablet section.

A salesperson approached him.

"Can I help you find something?"

"Yes."

Ares looked across the displays.

"I need three iPads."

"Certainly. Do you have a particular model in mind?"

"The best ones you have."

The salesperson blinked.

"All right."

She quickly showed him several of the newest models.

Ares examined them for a moment.

"The largest storage capacity."

"Of course."

"I’ll take three."

The salesperson nodded.

"Would you like any accessories?"

Ares thought about it.

"Power banks."

"How many?"

Ares remained silent for a moment.

Then he remembered Draven.

Cedric.

Astra.

And the fact that there was no electricity in the other world.

"A lot."

The salesperson smiled awkwardly.

"How many would you consider a lot?"

"At least enough to keep the three devices running for a long time."

"Then I would recommend our high-capacity models."

She brought him toward another display.

"These can provide multiple full charges depending on the device, and some of our larger models are designed for extended use."

Ares looked at them.

"How long would they last?"

"Under normal use, a fully charged unit could provide power over several days. If you’re carrying multiple units, you could keep your devices running for considerably longer."

Ares thought about it.

"I want enough to last approximately a month."

The salesperson stared at him.

"...A month?"

"Yes."

"Then you’d need quite a few."

"That’s fine."

Ares nodded.

"How many can you sell me?"

The salesperson hesitated.

"How many do you actually want?"

Ares looked at the display.

"One hundred."

She blinked.

"One hundred?"

"Yes."

He paused.

"Actually, make that two hundred."

The salesperson stared at him.

Ares remained completely serious.

"Is that a problem?"

"No."

She quickly shook her head.

"Not at all."

Ares nodded.

"Good."

The transaction took considerably longer than expected, but eventually the three iPads and several hundred high-capacity power banks were packed into reinforced boxes.

Ares stored everything inside his spatial storage before leaving the store.

He had barely walked another block when he stopped.

He looked toward Ji Won.

"There’s still something missing."

Ji Won stared at him still in blank state.

That decision turned the rest of the afternoon into something that could only be described as excessive.

Ares visited several restaurants and food establishments throughout the city.

He wasn’t buying one or two meals.

He was buying hundreds.

Burgers.

Fried chicken.

Sandwiches.

Pizza.

Korean fried chicken.

Tteokbokki.

Kimbap.

Various pastries.

Cakes.

Cookies.

Donuts.

Expensive chocolates.

Packaged snacks.

Instant noodles.

Cereal.

Protein bars.

Dried fruit.

Nuts.

And countless other foods that Ares thought the people at Starlight might enjoy.

At one point, Ji Won simply stared at the growing list on Ares’s phone.

"Tae Ho..."

"Hm?"

"How much food are you planning to buy?"

Ares looked at the list.

"Not that much."

Ji Won stared at him.

"Not that much?"

Ares smiled.

"Don’t worry about it."

The two continued shopping.

Ares made certain to purchase several different types of drinks as well, avoiding ordinary soft drinks and choosing bottled fruit juices, coffee beverages, sports drinks, flavored milk, tea, and other drinks that could survive transportation without requiring refrigeration for an extended period.

He also purchased sealed desserts and packaged foods that would remain edible for a long time.

By the time they finished, Ares had accumulated enough food and drinks to fill an entire warehouse.

Fortunately, none of it actually needed to be carried.

Every item disappeared into his spatial storage the moment he purchased it.

Ji Won watched the process several times.

"You really do have an absurd storage space."

Ares smiled.

"It’s convenient."

"That’s one word for it."

Eventually, the two returned to Ji Won’s apartment.

Ares placed the three iPads on the table.

Then he began taking out the power banks.

Twenty.

More followed.

Ji Won stared.

"You’re actually serious about this."

Ares continued placing them on the table.

"I told you."

By the time he finished, the apartment was filled with power banks.

There were far too many.

Ji Won looked around.

"Where are we supposed to charge all of these?"

Ares paused.

"...That’s a good question."

He had thought about everything except that.

Ji Won sighed.

"Don’t worry. We can charge them gradually."

They spent the next day charging the power banks.

It took most of the available outlets in the apartment to keep everything connected, so they had to rotate them throughout the day.

Some were charged first.

Then others.

Then the remaining ones.

Ares also connected the three iPads and allowed them to charge completely.

By the end of the day, every device and power bank had been fully charged.

Ares looked at the table.

"Good."

Ji Won sat down beside him.

"Now what?"

Ares picked up one of the iPads.

"I need your help."

"With what?"

"Games."

Ji Won blinked.

"Games?"

"Yes."

Ares handed him the iPad.

"I want to download as many games as possible."

"I also want dramas."

"Dramas?"

"Movies, shows, animations, documentaries, anything interesting."

Ji Won stared at him.

"How much storage do those iPads have?"

"The largest available."

"Alright."

They spent several hours going through games, dramas, movies, animations, and other entertainment.

Ji Won recommended popular games, story-based games, strategy games, racing games, and several multiplayer titles.

Ares selected a variety of them, imagining Draven becoming obsessed with anything involving monsters or battles.

For Cedric, Ji Won recommended several strategy and puzzle games.

For Astra, Ares selected games involving exploration, fantasy worlds, animals, and stories.

They also downloaded numerous dramas and movies, along with several shows that Ji Won insisted were worth watching.

By the time they finished, the three iPads were filled with enough entertainment to keep the three of them occupied for an extremely long time.

Ares looked at the devices.

"That should be enough."

Ji Won leaned back.

"I think you’ve downloaded enough to keep them busy for months."

"Good."

Ares placed the iPads into his spatial storage.

He checked the power banks one final time.

All fully charged.

The food was already stored.

The drinks were stored.

The chocolates, snacks, desserts, and everything else were stored as well.

Ares looked around the apartment.

"That’s everything."

Ji Won nodded.

"You’re really leaving tomorrow?"

"Yes."

Ares stood.

Ji Won looked at him.

"I understand."

He smiled.

"Thanks for everything, Tae Ho."

Ares returned the smile.

"I should be thanking you."

Ji Won shook his head.

"Still, if you ever come back, let me know."

"Yeah, yeah."

The two stood quietly for a moment.

Then Ares looked toward the window.

The evening city stretched beyond the glass.

He had arrived here knowing almost nothing about what had happened during the years he had been gone.

Now he was leaving with more answers than he had expected.

He had found an old friend.

He had seen the new world Earth had become.

And he had even managed to bring a ridiculous amount of Earth back with him.

Ares smiled faintly.

"Alright."

He turned toward the door.

"I’ll be going now."

Ji Won nodded.

"Take care, Tae Ho."

"You too."

Ares stepped outside.

He walked several blocks away from the apartment before stopping in a quiet location where there were no pedestrians nearby.

He looked around one final time.

Then he raised his hand.

Mana gathered around him.

The air began to distort.

The familiar sensation of dimensional space appeared around his body.

The dimensional boundary opened.

Space folded inward.

The city disappeared.

And Ares returned to the other world.
