The Elusive Sorcerer

Chapter 160 – Movement of Purpose (2)

Chapter 160

On Friday afternoon, January 31st, at 1:30 PM, the weather in Caestevil was so pleasant that some people went out without umbrellas.

Behind the bustle of the streets, six people stood by the side of a shop several meters away from the main road, while crowds filled the sidewalks. The shop sat inside an alley where four roads branched off, serving as the center point of the intersection. Moving forward from the multi-story building, one could exit through an alley known as Doveres.

The Eistender Hunter Group had sent six people to track down a man named Zavi Actitus, acting independently rather than carrying out orders from the Finiscya Sect after the failure they had suffered.

The destruction of Moran had been one of the failed attempts to capture Zavi Actitus, and the remaining members, including their captain, Ashley Wilshere, had joined the search to find the person behind Moran's destruction, which had resulted in the loss of their target.

Feeling that they had failed to meet their client's demands, the payment they were supposed to receive was withdrawn by the Finiscya Sect's subordinates through their intelligence network.

"Damn it, isn't there any way to find that guy?" Grace grumbled in frustration.

With coats patterned in gold and gray along the sides, the five people sent by Eistender stood out among the passersby. Included among them was Elvira in an orange dress that contrasted with the dim light beneath the cloudy sky.

"Shut up! This is exactly why I never want to go on missions with someone like you," Maeressa said firmly and clearly.

One of the women sent by Ashley Wilshere, named Elvira, stepped in to mediate.

"Hey, if you two want to fight, don't do it here, or..."

A Soul Dagger worth 80,000 Pace, catching the sunlight's gleam, was pointed at both of them.

The two immediately fell silent, their mouths shut tight as though they were facing their mother.

On the other side, atop a stack of crates near the roadside, Calvert, Michael, and Renneiver complained that this aimless journey was pointless.

Meanwhile, not far from them, the two were still bickering to vent their frustration.

"Come to think of it, you and Nawai failed to kill that guy, and Nawai's shot hit a female passerby instead. Did you see it?" Michael asked curiously.

Calvert stared at him for two seconds before replying rather apathetically, "I don't know."

"Huh? Weren't you always close to that kid?"

Naturally, Michael was surprised by the unexpected answer coming from someone who should have been at the scene yet knew nothing about the fatal incident.

Calvert shrugged slightly.

"I don't remember clearly, but if you want more details, just ask Maeressa," Calvert said, pointing at the person in question with his pale finger. "She's the one who got killed by that guy named Zavi Actitus."

Another man, named Renneiver, finally spoke up curiously while exhaling cigarette smoke.

"Oh? That guy is a Receiver of Sorcerer at the second stage, Magician?"

The two nodded in confusion, finding the statement rather strange.

"Why would you say that?" Calvert asked in bewilderment.

Renneiver took another drag from his cigarette, blew out a stream of white smoke, waved his hand, and said, "I'm just surprised, that's all."

"Huh?" the two muttered in unison, realizing their companion had completely lost his mind.

"...Zavi Actitus, huh? What kind of man is he?" Renneiver asked as he took another drag.

Calvert lowered his shoulders.

"I already told you. Just ask Maeressa."

Then, in the blink of an eye.

The sound of something sharp pierced a road sign only a few inches away from Renneiver, who was standing beside it.

A Soul Dagger.

"Hey, you crazy bitch... are you trying to kill me?" Renneiver snapped, his voice rising as veins bulged along his neck.

Elvira immediately stepped forward to calm the misunderstanding.

"Ah, sorry. That sorcerer guy made the dagger fly toward you," Elvira said while holding her breath.

Renneiver dropped his cigarette, crushed the ember beneath his heel, and strode toward Maeressa.

Standing slightly taller than her, with a vacant gaze like a ghost's, Renneiver lowered his head and stared at her with his hazel eyes.

Maeressa felt a strange pressure weighing down on her as she turned her face toward the side of the street.

Even though she was a Receiver of Sorcerer, she was truly a coward because she couldn't fully utilize Sorcerer's true potential!

Renneiver drew a breath and asked in his hoarse voice, "Where's Nouzen?"

Hearing that question, Maeressa swallowed with difficulty before answering, "He's at his lodging."

She immediately added, "Why are you looking for that big guy?"

Renneiver nodded.

"Regarding the loss of senses, is he experiencing the same thing as Nawai?"

"Yes," Maeressa answered calmly.

"Good, we're going to find him. I'm curious how he managed to do all of this."

He straightened his arm. The Soul Dagger that had been embedded in the road sign let out a sharp scraping sound before floating backward and falling into his grasp.

Thud...

Watching him head toward the main road, the other five immediately followed without knowing where he intended to go.

After taking several steps, Renneiver stopped and looked at the five of them with his ghostlike expression.

"We're going to Semilir," he said, pulling out a cigarette and placing it between his lips.

Once it was lit, he resumed walking toward the nearest station and headed straight for the city of Minehold before continuing on to Semilir.

Several hours passed quickly as the six of them arrived in Minehold, at Velesi Station in Haven, near Ledise.

They crossed forests and valleys stretching for miles across Caestevil, arriving in Minehold at exactly five in the morning, blending easily among the locals since no one recognized their faces apart from their eccentric clothing.

Not wanting to linger in this unfamiliar place, they decided to continue their journey to another station.

However, since the trains were not yet operating, or more precisely, because there was no schedule at the beginning of the month, they decided to stay at the station and pass the time reading the newspapers they had purchased.

The contents of the news were the same as always, unchanged, as though they were imitating the newspapers usually printed in Caestevil.

However, there was news that the outskirts of Kenotalle had begun to be invaded by Hunter-type Chalog.

At first, they were interested in exterminating Hunter-type Chalog because of the high bounty, namely 58 Pace and 700 Pence.

At Grace's suggestion, the five of them eventually decided to head to Kenotalle under the pretext of exterminating Chalog.

They still had enough money for the journey, and they had come to realize that there were powers greater than themselves and forces hidden from the public eye.

At nine in the morning, the train departed and arrived at their transfer station. With tickets purchased two hours earlier, they were assigned seats in the middle carriage, while better service was available in the front section.

The journey became a turning point in the troubles that had befallen Eistender several months earlier, and the Hollow criminals who had terrorized several Hunter groups, such as SeiaofFire and Eistender, were also involved in those acts of terror.

The two groups, both based in the same Yorkshire region, maintained a stable relationship because Eistender frequently stopped in Caestevil, a perfect hunting ground due to its proximity to the sea.

"I'm worried that Naseki might suddenly show up," Grace said after considering the reason for the refusal.

Elvira snorted.

"Naseki from SeiaofFire? It's strange that he's in Havanuheta..."

"I don't know either, but he just received the title 'King of Plagues and Monsters' because of his mastery of poison and his brutal killing methods," Grace brought up a conversation from two months earlier in an attempt to make them forget about the extermination mission.

The train moved steadily while the hiss of steam grew sharper over time.

"What do you think?" Michael turned around toward where the three of them were seated.

Nawai nodded.

"I don't know."

With a strained expression from being in a public place, Renneiver said, "Who cares."

The three of them, Maeressa, Renneiver, and Calvert, sat facing the opposite direction and separated from the other two under Elvira's absolute orders.

Maeressa clicked her tongue, looked at the two of them, and decided to start a conversation.

The six of them continued their journey aboard the train with casual conversation. Meanwhile, the other three remained indifferent, their mouths firmly shut as they focused on their own thoughts.
