The Elusive Sorcerer

Chapter 242 – Equations and Problems

Chapter 242

Not a single one of them had ever expected that the three major hunter organizations in Norn were here!

Not long after the five men disappeared into the darkness of the alley, other members of the SeiaofFire hunter organization arrived.

The ten men fell silent. Not one of them could see three of the four corpses properly, as their bodies had been torn apart from their limbs.

Their internal organs, such as their hearts, had undergone changes like rotting fruit. The street was littered with open eyes, as though those eyes were nothing more than stones. Intestines protruded from their bodies, like mushrooms growing from a dead tree.

One of them could no longer endure it; the sound of his chattering teeth broke through the tension and gloom of the alley.

"They're dead..." he said, trying to remain calm. "Report to the Master that the people who were previously assigned to search for Eistender have been killed..."

"All right." One of them hurriedly left the place.

Inside the magnificent airship, which had continued hovering without moving an inch for several minutes, news of the strange deaths arrived after the man communicated with the Master's assistant.

"There is a report." A flat-faced woman walked toward the Master. "Regarding the group sent to track down Eistender's location, they have been reported dead in horrific conditions. It is unclear exactly how they died. Clearly, someone highly skilled and experienced working together with an organization was capable of doing this!"

Most hunters were ordinary humans, neither Hollows nor Receivers. Even though they were ordinary people, their bodies and minds had been honed every day, so they did not hesitate to do things that violated the norms of society.

They knew that the existence of Receivers and Hollows was completely real. They simply did not understand them, because the requirements for becoming "the latter" were highly secretive and difficult to fulfill, unless one came from an ancient family that possessed such secrets.

"Thank you for the report." The Master rose from his seat, letting out a longer sigh than necessary. He took four steps forward, touched the chair of the man with the scar over his eye, then pressed down on the chair.

"Don't worry," the Master said firmly before turning around. "We will take the risk. For now, order the others to bring back the bodies of our comrades. They will surely be saddened when they stand before the Goddess if their bodies are not buried immediately."

The woman raised her right hand, her fingers straight and pressed together as she touched the right front side of her military hat. "The order will be carried out immediately."

After those words were spoken, the woman, who served as the Master's assistant during this hunt, turned around and walked out of the main deck.

Meanwhile, the others remained on the main deck, not moving an inch and ready to descend at any moment if the Master gave them instructions. They were prepared to die at any time, especially for their supreme leader and the survival of the organization.

Although not all members of the organization were aboard the two airships, with around a hundred people present, the Master was confident that this mission would proceed smoothly according to plan.

Everything was at stake as several of them descended at the Master's command, a man who possessed supernatural abilities.

"For now, we wait. There is a surprise coming from the people down there." The Master's index finger pointed toward the glass in front of him, where bright light and shadows clashed against each other.

The three pilots looked in the same direction, waiting to see what surprise their leader would give the organization's members and those below.

...

Beneath the glow of the streetlights, an inevitable battle between two sides broke out and continued for ten minutes. Instead of using supernatural abilities or anything of the sort, they used firearms, swords, and rattan canes.

Their objective was simple: they did not want to attract anyone else's attention, even though the sound of gunfire could be heard several meters away from the scene.

Incidents like this happened often, so they remained calm because Layana was known as the city with the fifth-highest crime and murder rate in the Kingdom of Norn. The reason was simple, as the city served as a meeting point between two major provinces, along with the rising unemployment rate.

Criminals there were openly tolerated by the government, often holding large-scale demonstrations, yet the city government failed to respond firmly, allowing them to openly commit crimes such as robbery with bladed weapons and firearms without fear of being caught.

Of the ten people present, only six remained standing, unshaken even after receiving fatal attacks that had nearly killed them in a fraction of a second.

Not wanting the battle to last too long, the hunter organization launched a barrage of gunfire toward three men standing close together, all wearing the same conspicuous suits that stood out in the night.

They came from the Ordeal hunter organization and the Cevenose security department, both of which were hunting the Eistender hunter group.

Although they had the same objective, the three people from the Cevenose department had "killed" four people from Ordeal. Saying "killed" was not entirely accurate because "they" had been brought into an interrogation space separated from the real world through the ability Scatter.

Gone, but not really. They seemed to have been separated from the real world. Realizing that, during the battle, the Cevenose personnel had made strange movements as though they wanted to reach for their enemies, one of them immediately acted cautiously.

"What kind of ability do those three people actually have?" asked a man wearing a classic tailcoat and black trousers.

The man beside him answered without taking his eyes off them.

"I don't know. If we knew information about that ability, then... we would definitely win."

Being overly confident was one thing, but the man appeared skeptical of the movements of the man dressed in blue and wearing a hat, who had remained silent while observing him and his companion.

"I'll distract the man with the black mark on his cheek," he shouted firmly. "You two fight that man and finish him...."

Before he could finish his sentence, despite the man's careful observation of them, the person he was referring to, the man with a black mark among the many marks on his cheek, shot toward him in the blink of an eye, extending his hand with a heart-stirring smile.

As the sound of footsteps echoed and made the minds of the three men seem to stop, the personnel patted the man's shoulder while smiling and closing his eyes.

"I'll be going now..." the personnel called out as he slowly opened his eyes, and a pale white light exploded, temporarily blinding him.

The sensation of heat produced by the soundless explosion remained, causing the four people present to immediately fall to their knees and scream loudly while clutching their throats.

It did not come from the Scatter ability of the three members.

Receivers of Black Death were here!

The member who had been brought into the interrogation world nearly died from the effects of someone's Black Death ability.

The chains bound the man's body like a cocoon, leaving only his eyes and mouth exposed. His breathing grew heavier as he stared at the man with the black mark on his cheek; from the unknown number of marks, the man managed to count them.

‘There are 8? That man has so many birthmarks.’

Even while cornered, he remained calm enough to think as his enemy stared at him with murderous intent.

"That department, huh?" he muttered, raising the corners of his lips.

"What exactly is this ability? Untouchable, and once you touch someone, that person gets dragged into... this strange place?" the man asked, his hoarse voice filled with curiosity.

The man narrowed his eyes, observing everything around him. There was no air here, no sun and no moon, yet the sky was dark blue. Witnessing such a strange phenomenon, the man drew one conclusion regarding the personnel's supernatural ability.

"Hey, so your ability is a type of 'Manifestation,' huh?"

There was no response to those questions. The man felt something strange happening to his body as his heartbeat and breathing slowed with the passage of time.

‘What kind of ability is this? I can't feel anything, damn it... Ah, it's too cold, as if my brain is freezing.’

With both his body and soul nearly cracking under the sudden cold, the chains that had previously restrained the man's body began to loosen. Only after realizing this did he understand that the existence of those chains had actually saved him from the cold.

The chains fell, leaving behind a sharp clattering sound that echoed in the man's mind before disappearing, swallowed by the silence of the place.

"Ah, damn. How careless of me."

Before his consciousness faded, another sudden, suffocating impact appeared, binding the man as something continuously churned inside his mind, followed by a sharp scream escaping his mouth.

"ARGHHH... What the hell is this pain...?" The man felt his soul struggling from within, trying to escape through his mouth.

However, his consciousness soon returned. His eyes slowly opened; faintly, he saw someone who looked familiar standing silently upon frozen blue-white water.

"Wh-Who are you?" the man asked nervously, his lips trembling violently.

"Thank you... yes, apparently saying this to an enemy isn't so bad after all," said the figure, who turned out to be a surviving personnel member who had escaped death by entering the interrogation world.

If he had been even slightly late, or had failed to bring the man in, both of them would certainly have been killed by the user of the Black Death ability, whose location was not far from the eastern road of the city square.

The man could see normally again as his previously restrained body was freed when the chains refused to bind him.

"Are you conscious now? I'm your enemy, you know!" the man exclaimed, the corner of his lips twitching.

The man with the birthmark on his cheek nodded, then spoke softly, "What else could I do? I'm simply someone who can't refuse. Besides, I was ordered to capture Eistender."

After silence settled over them again, they exchanged glances before the man hurriedly added;

"Now that I think about it, why didn't you fight back when I touched your shoulder? That's why I mean, the two of us were able to survive that attack."

The man immediately processed the statement, remained silent for two seconds, then said, "Have you realized that there is another faction here?"

"What do you mean?" The personnel raised an eyebrow, then slowly sat down as though he felt comfortable with the conversation.

"Forget it," the man said, vigilance still dominating his thoughts. "I don't know what you're planning, but I won't be fooled again, all right!"

The personnel smiled, his brown eyes observing the shimmer beneath him.

"I'm not what you think I am. You and your friend are looking for Eistender, right?"

The man widened his eyes, impressed by the personnel's sharp intuition while a disbelieving smile appeared on his face.

"How did you know that?" the man muttered, asking for an explanation.

The personnel rose from his seat, a groan escaping his mouth. Seeing this, the man immediately became vigilant as he no longer restrained himself from releasing his supernatural ability.

Tiny fragments that almost looked like dust, but were actually nearly invisible petals of small jasmine flowers, surrounded his body.

The personnel immediately cleared up the misunderstanding.

"Attack me if you can..."

The battle in the "interrogation" world began shortly afterward when the personnel realized that his "confinement" had been destroyed by the effects of the Black Death ability that had struck the man.

If it had not been for the personnel bringing the man here, he would certainly have died from the power of "Parasite," a power capable of leaving behind only bones; if unlucky, the body and soul affected by the parasite would vanish under its destructive power.

There was a reason the man was still alive, because the Black Death ability was dependent on distance, causing the effect of the ability to enter significantly.

This world was different and separated from the real world.

Receivers of Black Death, at its third level, Parasite.

...

Quite far from that place, in an alley on the western side of the city square road, a woman and a man stared at each other without blinking, as though neither wanted to miss a thing.

After finding a safe place, Zavi finally decided to reveal the thought that had suddenly appeared and been bothering him.

He turned around, his back facing the flat-faced woman, before speaking in a restrained voice:

"There is something I want to talk about. How much did you see of the battle that night at Zen University? I know that if you're not honest, I might..."

Zavi raised one eyebrow, waiting for several seconds, but the threat failed completely.

Seeing the situation, he immediately added:

"That alone isn't enough. Tell me, did you see the man who was with Zuhen and Felina when they were attacked by that winged creature?"

Celvira gave no response, making Zavi even more irritated as he looked at the emotionless face of the third-level evil spirit disguised as a human.

Acting like a true human, pretending to be an innocent woman, hiding her true identity.

‘This is the first time I've ever been fed up with a woman other than that woman.’

Zavi tried to remain calm on the outside, even though his irritation was almost taking control of him. He was extremely curious about the Prisoner ability, especially its first level, even though it had only been one day since he advanced to that level.

For some reason, he felt something was strange, especially after remembering the man named Canel Hewwich and Moreira Lounge.

‘Yes, that cat was similar to the skull snake I encountered before. Is all of this connected? Regarding supernatural entities created from the user's spirituality and basic Supernatural ability, could they possess important powers derived from the Supernatural ability itself?’

Zavi remembered the roar of the wolf that had brought five demonic horses behind him at once, then carried him into the Northern forest of Hava District.

Not only that, he remembered how the cat created through imagination and used as an experiment had saved his life.

He had almost been dragged into Northerlheim, a mysterious place where higher-dimensional beings had absolutely no idea where it was, or had never even known of its existence.

‘I just remembered the skull snake that almost killed me! If it weren't for Aaron, who taught me the Exchange Wounds technique, I definitely would have died that night.’

After thinking for quite some time, Zavi slowly turned around, his disheveled face staring sharply at Celvira.

"I will die..."

Behind his disheveled expression was the relieved smile of someone who had struggled against his ill fate.

The flat expression on Celvira's face faded as she slowly raised her foot, approached Zavi, and, without warning, immediately embraced the man and smiled.
