Thud... thud... crunch...
The two horses. No, the two thugs were running desperately with all their might, pulling the cart as fast as they could. Their bodies were drenched with sweat, clothes clinging to their skin.
“Huff! Hufff! Huffff!”
They looked like they would die any moment out of exhaustion.
And from behind...
“What the hell are you doing?! Speed up a little, will ya?! When did horses start running this slowly?!”
“...”
‘Speed up? Slower than other horses? Even horses would find it hard running this fast with that pig bastard in the cart!’
Indeed. They were really running faster than any horses would run.
But who would argue with him?
This devil in front of them was someone who defies logic with full confidence.
“Ah, no! Faster! Faster!”
The way Wolryung was nagging at the thugs, the others couldn’t help but feel bad for them.
Of course, they weren’t any good people. So, they shouldn’t feel bad for them. But the problem was that they had already been beaten so badly that it was already far enough punishment to them if they just handed them over to the Murim Alliance branch.
But now he was really using them as horses and not only that he was behaving like they were really horses. Even horses don’t get this much nagging.
And here they were running with their tongues out like some dogs. Their bodies shaking to the point they would fall any moment. But despite that, they didn’t stop running. Because if they did, what the devil behind them would do...
Well, they didn’t even want to think about it.
A few moments later...
The chubby boy was taking a nap again at a corner of the cart.
“Snore... Snore...”
There was no sound except for the sound of the chubby boy snoring and the cart running forward.
Thud! Crunch! Thud!
Then Jin Ho approached Wolryung.
“Young master...”
Wolryung turned his head with a blank face.
“Hmm...?”
“I think we should take some rest.”
Wolryung looked a bit confused by his words.
“What do you mean? We’re already resting in the cart.”
“..”
‘Uh, is he really dumb or just acting to be one?’
As Jin Ho couldn’t find an answer he sighed softly as he continued.
“I’m talking about them, young master.”
“Hm...”
Wolryung turned toward where Jin Ho pointed his finger. The two thugs.
“You mean them? Why so?”
Jin Ho and Cheon Jo’s faces hardened at that.
“...”
“Ah, it’s just. Can’t you see? Their bodies really are in bad shape, young master. At this rate, they might really die.”
“Hm... So, what?”
“...”
Please show at least a little humanity. How can you say that without an ounce of hesitation?
“Didn’t I tell you already? Their fate is up to heaven not us. So, why think so much? If heaven wants it, they’ll be just fine.”
Jin Ho had nothing else to say after hearing those words. Even Cheon Jo seemed like he was about to say something.
“What now? You also wanna say something?”
“...”
“No...”
But he just backed off. It’s no use telling this bastard anything. He just does whatever he wants.
On the other hand, Wolryung slowly leaned against the shelter, hands on the back of his head. He let out a long breath as he looked to the side.
“Haaaah...”
‘So... I’m really in the novel right now, huh?’
Then he suddenly remembered about the dream earlier.
‘That dream... Why did I have a dream like that?’
What was the meaning of that?
He never had a dream like that in his previous life. Although he had nightmares many times. But seeing his father in a dream that felt so real...
‘How strange... I wish...’
It wasn’t a dream.
And just like that, the cart was... No, the thugs were running with their life on the line, pulling the cart.
It wasn’t far enough anymore. Their destination, the Western Sichuan, was very close.
***
Step... step... step...
A man in a black robe and a black mask covering his face, a sheathed sword resting at his waist, was walking on the dark road alone.
Step... step... step...
After a while he arrived in an area where there was enough light to see everything.
“Huuuu...”
As he stopped he looked at the inn in front of him. His eyes showed a bit of annoyance.
“Man... I’m dying preparing everything alone. And here they are having fun in the inn.”
He sighed softly before taking a step forward to the inn. Slowly he went inside.
The inn was filled with different types of people. Some heavily drank and spouted nonsense. Some looked normal only eating normal meals in groups. Smells of food and alcohol filled the air in aroma.
Step... step... step...
The man in the black robe entered the inn and went to the corner, taking an empty seat.
As soon as he took that seat a young man immediately went toward him as if that seat was for somebody important.
As the young man approached him he bowed a little in respect, an innocent smile could be seen on his face.
“How can we help you, sir?”
The man in the robe looked at him as if he didn’t like that behavior.
“Quite the acting. Where is he?”
As soon as the question came out from his mouth, the young man’s face suddenly became serious which made the man in the robe a bit uncomfortable.
“So, you prepared everything?”
“Y-Yes.”
“...”
There was silence for a brief moment.
Then suddenly the young man’s face transformed into an innocent smile again.
“Great, sir. I’ll take you to your room now. Please follow me.”
“Y-Yes. Lead the way please.”
The young man led the way while the man in the robe followed behind.
Step... step... step...
After a moment they arrived at their destination. The young man knocked on the door a couple of times.
Thak! Thak! Thak!
“...”
But no answer came.
The young man looked at the man behind him.
“Let’s just enter together.”
“Ahh... ok.”
With a creak... the young man opened the door.
“Oh...!”
There sat three men playing with three women of the inn.
“Oh, sir. Please be gentle.”
“Hehehe... Let’s enjoy the whole night today.”
They were so busy playing with the women that they didn’t even feel like turning to look who entered the room.
Seeing this sight, the young man and the man in the robe felt a bit anxious.
“...”
“Ah, leader. The shadow guy came.”
“Hmm...”
The three men stopped playing and looked toward them.
“Tch! We were about to enter the important part.”
“Ah, I’m sorry, leader. But it’s time.”
“Oh, is that so?”
The three men gave a look to the women as a sign to leave. And right after that they started leaving, fixing their half-messed-up clothes.
Then the man in the center opened his mouth.
“So, shadow. You prepared everything?”
The man in the robe bowed slightly in respect as he answered.
“Yes, leader. Tonight is the best time to attack the Murim Alliance Western Sichuan branch. Our spy gave us all the information we needed. And the branch leader is not present today.”
“Oh, good, good. How many men did you prepare to attack?”
The man sitting on the left side asked.
“All of our underworld warriors, vice leader.”
“Good.”
The leader stood up and went toward the window, looking at the night sky.
“Today, the Murim Alliance Western Sichuan branch should be destroyed. And with that as proof...”
He looked behind, his face giving a grin that sent chills down others’ spine.
“We can ally with the evil faction.”
***
Murim Alliance Western Sichuan branch...
“Hhhhng...”
Two guards at the entrance of the branch gate, standing with a boring face, were talking to each other.
“Hhhhhng... How boring. Standing here all night? It’s the worst life someone can have.”
“Huuuuu... Don’t say it like that. If we don’t do this work...”
“Yeah, yeah. I know. Stop with your nonsensical righteous words. You think all the people think the same way you do? I bet no one gives a shit about some guard like us.”
“...”
“You don’t even know how the world works. I bet even the alliance members also look down at us.”
“B-But...”
“Hmm... What is that?”
“Huh? What are you talking about?”
The guard at the right side looked toward the way where his fellow guard was looking.
“...”
“F*ck! What the hell is that?! Is it an ambush?!”
The guard at the left, surprised, turned toward his fellow guard and screamed.
“Alert everyone right now! It’s an ambush!”
“Ah, wait!”
“Huh?”
“Look carefully.”
“Hmm...”
The two guards looked at the distance from where something was coming at an incredible speed. As its distance was decreasing they could see its form clearly.
“Ah, is that a cart?”
“I think so. But... I don’t see any horses pulling it though.”
They felt a bit uncomfortable about it.
A cart without any horses?
“But something is pulling it though.”
“Right. I can also see it.”
“A-Are they... humans?”
What the hell was this?
Two humans pulling a cart instead of horses?
Are they stupid or something? Or are they just that broke that they couldn’t buy any horses?
Either way, the two guards couldn’t help it but feel anxious about it.
After all, they didn’t know there was an evil bastard who was coming their way.
It was Wolryung and his companions along with two horses. Ah, no. Along with two thugs pulling the cart.
