After Hilia left, that woman stomped her foot hard.

"How can this be."

She wanted to chase after her, but as she moved forward a wave of cold aura washed over her, and she didn’t dare move.

In the end she could only stomp her foot in hatred.

"Who cares about your stupid rescue anyway."

Feeling the cold slowly fade away, she was just about to walk out when she suddenly stopped, and turned back to look at all the rooms in the house.

"That woman saved us, doesn’t that mean there’s no one left here?"

She saw the chaos in the courtyard outside, the dead Galton and the shattered Magic Puppets; she didn’t dare touch any of it, since she was just an ordinary person.

But the stuff in the house...

Her heart thudded wildly, and she immediately ran to the second and third floors, looting anything valuable.

Outside, on the roof of another house, Hilia watched this scene without moving.

A team of people hurried down the street and entered that courtyard; everyone froze.

"Lord Galton... this is bad! Those two rare Beastman slaves! Get down there and check!"

"Yes, sir!"

The captain in the lead quickly gave orders, and soon after, two people dragged the woman who was looting the house over to the captain.

The woman was shouting at the top of her lungs.

"Let go of me!"

"You can’t treat me like this! My benefactor will kill you all!"

Smack!

The captain slapped her across the face, grabbed her hair, and snarled, "Talk. What happened here? How did you get out?"

The slap left her nose bleeding and finally jolted her a bit awake.

At that moment, she suddenly saw Hilia leaning against the corner wall, staring at her coldly.

Her expression instantly turned pleading: "Benefactor, save me, hurry, these are all Slave Merchant people, kill them, get me out of here."

The captain followed her gaze over, but aside from a patch of ruined flowerbeds, there was nothing there, and he couldn’t help but frown.

"Already lost her mind?"

Cold light flashed in his eyes. "Beat some sense into her."

Smack!

Another slap.

The woman was stunned, then stared at "Hilia" like a madwoman, screaming hoarsely, "Why won’t you save me? Why won’t you save me? You..."

Smack!

This slap snapped her head to the side; when she looked back toward the corner, Hilia was nowhere to be seen, only a clump of flowers swaying in the breeze.

Hilia didn’t bother watching the rest.

She jumped down from the other side of the roof, with two catfolk trailing her like little shadows.

"Lord Rose is as twisted as ever."

Hilia grumbled about Rose in her heart.

That phantom, of course, had been condensed by Rose using Spiritual Power.

What a little devil.

Rose teased, "Not going to save her?"

Hilia shook her head. "From the moment I left to when the Dragon Throne Commerce people arrived, she had a full ten minutes to run. She didn’t run; instead she got greedy and tried to loot their place. Someone like that isn’t worth saving."

After a pause, she added, "Or rather, from the moment she wasn’t satisfied with 1 Silver Coins and tried to get 10 Silver Coins, she was no longer worth my help."

Rose nodded and said nothing more.

Their conversation happened entirely in their minds; in reality, Hilia had her head lowered in silence.

The two little catfolk behind her swished their tails nervously, arms linked, whispering to each other as they walked close together.

"Benefactor doesn’t seem happy."

"That damn human woman, she made Benefactor unhappy. Meow-White, go bite her!"

"I’m not going, you go."

"Meow-Blue is scared, doesn’t dare."

Listening to the muttering behind her, Hilia stopped, turned around, and looked at the two of them.

"What are you two chattering about? You’re free now, why are you still following me?" Hilia said helplessly.

Cat-eared girls were indeed very cute; it made her want to pet them, but she really didn’t want to be dragging two burdens around.

Hilia knew herself very well. Even though she always denied it, she knew she really did have a knack for attracting trouble.

No matter where she went she could bump into heretics and their strongholds; by any measure, that was way too ridiculous.

In a situation like that, unless someone could protect themselves, sticking with her would only drag her down.

These two catgirls were very young, about fourteen, and somehow already had second-tier strength. She had no idea how the Beastmen trained, but they were stronger than Hilia had been at fourteen; back then she’d still been laying her foundations and hadn’t even started proper cultivation.

Unfortunately, second-tier was still far too weak.

Unless they were fourth-tier... and if they were fourth-tier, they wouldn’t need her to save them in the first place.

"We don’t know where to go."

"Benefactor’s scent is very comfy. Meow-Blue likes it and wants to follow."

From their earlier conversation, Hilia already knew their names: one was Meow-White, one was Meow-Blue. They’d named themselves after their tails; Meow-Blue was a proper catgirl, while Meow-White was a male catgirl.

The names were awfully casual, and seeing how pure they were, Hilia understood why they’d named themselves that way.

The girl forced herself not to ask what they’d do if their tail colors were the same.

She put on a cold front and said, "Don’t follow me. If you keep tailing me, I’ll sell you to some noble who likes abusing slaves and let you be slaves every single day."

The two immediately turned to face each other, gripping each other’s hands tighter, their cheeks pressed together as they looked at Hilia.

"N-no, please don’t!"

"Don’t be scared, Meow-Blue, I’ll protect you."

"Thank you, Meow-White."

Hilia: "..."

From the names, she’d thought they were siblings, but the way they were glued together, inseparable and constantly cuddling, they looked more like a runaway couple.

Are you two here to stuff dog— no, cat food down my throat?

Grr~

Suddenly, Meow-Blue’s stomach growled, and a blush spread across her catlike face.

"Meow-Blue is hungry..."

"Don’t be scared, Meow-Blue, I’ll take you to get something tasty."

"Does Meow-White have money?"

"Nope."

As he spoke, Meow-White took out two Silver Coins and carefully held them out to Hilia.

"Benefactor, these Silver Coins are yours. You saved us; we shouldn’t be taking your money."

"That’s right, that’s right, we can’t take Benefactor’s money! Meow-Blue and Meow-White are willing to work for Benefactor to repay your kindness!"

Hilia couldn’t help being amused by the two little cats.

She accepted the Gold Coins Meow-White handed over and said, "Come on, I’ll take you to get some food first. You can tell me your story while we eat."

With that, Hilia turned and walked ahead.

The cats exchanged a look, linked arms, and quickly followed.

The Cat-man race was generally short and adorably petite; even though Hilia was only one point six meters tall, she was still a "towering giant" beside them.

Hilia walked at a normal pace, and the two of them had to half jog to keep up behind her.

Their beast ears drew the attention of passersby, but by now Hilia had already put on the Mage Robe Doris had given her. The golden patterns on it told people that her status was anything but simple, that she wasn’t just some random mage off the street, so no one dared cause trouble; they only clicked their tongues in curiosity.

Dragon Island was very far from the Beastman Empire, and they didn’t even share a border. Many people might live their whole lives without ever seeing a Beastman. Now, seeing two adorable catgirls, everyone started using their wristbands’ recording functions, saving their images in their bracelets.

Before long, Hilia found a restaurant, brought the two catgirls inside, and booked a private room. While waiting for the food, she looked at the two catgirls squeezed together across from her.

"Now you can tell me about yourselves."
