Hilia is currently in a town under the jurisdiction of Fanar City, called Blazing Town.
The town is said to be named because, during the time of the Blue Dragon Empire’s independence and resistance against the Holy Court Knight Order, Erina unleashed a powerful Flame Burst Skill that destroyed the surrounding mountains, creating flat land upon which the border town was built.
Just ahead of here is the border between the Blue Dragon Empire and the Ista Empire.
Unfortunately, the border has already been taken over, and before she could ascertain how much of the border the Blue Dragon Empire’s army had taken, Hilia decided to stop here for a rest, and investigate the cause.
For the past two days after bidding farewell to Encore, she had been traveling non-stop. With the Space Ring, she didn’t even have to specifically stop to rest in towns, moving directly in a straight line.
Only upon entering Ista’s territory could she feel at ease.
After some inquiries in Blazing Town, Hilia quickly discovered the situation.
"Sure enough, it’s about Dragon Island."
The Dragon Island incident concluded with the Fire Spirit taking away two high-level Spiritual Objects.
The forces overtly involved were the Dragon Rider Corps and the Tower of Descent, and perhaps others secretly, but it no longer mattered.
Because everyone lost.
After recovering, Erina was greatly enraged and immediately took a series of actions, not only to find the departed Fire Spirit and the two Spiritual Objects but also to deal with the Tower of Descent and all outsiders involved in the Dragon Island sinking incident.
Thus, sealing the border was part of the strategy.
The border sealing was ineffective for ordinary people—they could cross freely, but not mages.
All mages wishing to cross the border had to be inspected, including their Space Rings.
"Has Erina lost her mind?"
Hilia, holding two treasures, felt a bit uneasy.
If she were to directly encounter the border patrol, those two treasures would be lost.
Furthermore, she’d heard many mercenaries complaining about the patrols.
"These damn guys are confiscating my purchases under the guise of inspection!"
"I bought this Volcanic Stone through legitimate channels, yet they claim it’s from Dragon Island Volcano without taxes and demand payment or they’ll take my Volcanic Stone."
"And my situation? I purchased a Scroll from the Mercenary Guild, and they say it was ejected by the volcano. Can a volcano spew out Scrolls?"
"These damn guys, once this is over, I’m going to make trouble for them!"
Hilia raised an eyebrow.
These border guards are quite resourceful, knowing how to profit soon after the border seal was enacted.
Hilia understood their audacity too.
This is merely a corner of the vast border. With the Dragon Island sinking event, no one notices them.
Even if they did, it wouldn’t matter; they are legally conducting searches, with the discretion in their hands, able to say whatever they want.
Compared to the Dragon Island sinking, the heavy losses to the Dragon Rider Corps, and the death of two witches from the Tower of Descent, the minor issues at the border didn’t stir a wave.
The Tower of Descent and the Deep Sea Mutual Aid Association are different; this cult had four Tier Six Mages, the Four Witches, and with two dead, they suffered a considerable blow.
It’s precisely because of the heavy losses at the Tower of Descent that the Dragon Riders and Erina can breathe easier.
Otherwise, the death of a Tier Six Mage, coupled with the Dragon Island sinking, would surely cause internal turmoil in the Blue Dragon Empire.
Erina certainly doesn’t fear internal issues, but internal unrest would invite external forces.
For example, the Holy Court wouldn’t miss this opportunity.
Hilia contacted people from the Holy Court and knew they were taking action.
Hilia wasn’t very concerned about how their actions were going.
"The border patrol isn’t just about preventing the Bathing Fire Essence and Star of Ice from being taken, but perhaps also to guard against Ista," Hilia thought.
The Dragon Island sinking is a very serious issue, plunging the entire Blue Dragon Empire into a state of emergency; even in Blazing Town, Hilia occasionally saw patrols moving past, often stopping people for questioning.
The Disguise Skill had a certain ability to let people overlook her, so Hilia hadn’t been stopped.
"This is a small place, so there’s no need to worry about those high-tier mages coming here, but staying here indefinitely is not an option; a way to leave is necessary."
Sitting in the Mercenary Guild’s tavern, Hilia fell into contemplation.
Only Rose leisurely sipped a fruit jam beverage.
Sip~
The last sip made a noise that startled Hilia awake. She looked up at Rose across from her, her heart stirred.
"Master Rose’s mood is improving more and more."
Rose chuckled lightly: "When have I ever been in a bad mood?"
That was during the Dragon Island sinking period, of course.
Hilia thought to herself.
However, after watching the ’CG’ of the Dragon Island sinking, Hilia felt Rose’s mood gradually improved; although she didn’t know why, she was happy for Rose.
"Master Rose, how do we break through the border defense to leave?" Hilia asked.
Rose smiled slightly: "Isn’t it simple? Hide using the Disguise Skill and pass through when the patrols misalign."
Hilia blinked: "But the patrols are equipped with magic-detecting Magic Guide Devices, essentially covering everything, making sneaky attempts easy to spot. And there are watchtowers..."
"Just charge through," Rose laughed softly, "Don’t you trust my speed?"
Hilia shook her head like a rattle drum.
Compared to other empires, the Blue Dragon Empire’s border isn’t a maritime area, much shorter than other empires.
Under an emergency state, having guards patrol fully can achieve complete coverage.
There’s just one thing Hilia doesn’t quite understand: how effective are the border patrols?
Are they just to extort mages at the border?
If it’s just guarding against the Holy Court, such dense patrols aren’t needed.
Curious about this, Hilia didn’t cross the border immediately.
If she really had to force it, asking Rose would do; with Rose’s acceleration, the border guards wouldn’t even see the tail of the Flying Broom.
"Speaking of..."
Hilia suddenly thought of the two cat girls, Meow Lan and Meow Bai.
With the border sealed, she wondered how they would manage; hopefully, they smuggled through smoothly.
Hilia perked up her ears, her excellent hearing capturing all conversations within the tavern.
Not just her, many mercenaries were also very curious about the border seal, and rumors easily emerged during conversations.
Perhaps some contained the truth.
"Even if the Holy Court takes action, they wouldn’t immediately press down with their forces..."
Hilia shook her head.
Forget it!
She stopped thinking about it.
First, observe the situation, rest for a day or two, and if not feasible, the last resort: ask the Gods for intervention.
This is a last-ditch move, and if possible, Hilia didn’t want to resort to it.
