The Exiled Alpha's Human Male Mate.[BL]

Chapter 61: Encounter With The Moon Goddess.

The car moved swiftly along the nearly deserted roads, carrying them farther from the city with every passing mile.

By the time the last traces of the city lights had disappeared behind them, Vincent had increased their speed considerably, leaving Bryce to wonder just how far away their destination actually was.

He glanced through the window, watching the familiar streets give way to darker, quieter roads.

Where exactly had Vincent managed to get the room he had mentioned? Bryce assumed it had to be somewhere in the city, unless Vincent had somehow forgotten about it altogether.

"Where are we going?"

"Alverton," Vincent answered evenly, his attention still on the road.

Bryce frowned. "You just said you got a room."

"Yes. In Alverton."

Right.

Genovia wasn’t the only city with hotels, and, in hindsight, getting a room in Alverton was actually the smarter choice.

At least they could freshen up there and get to work immediately while they were still refreshed, rather than stopping in Genovia, freshening up, and then spending hours on the road only to arrive in Alverton exhausted all over again.

With that explanation settling his mind, Bryce relaxed against the seat and turned his attention back toward the window.

The steady motion of the car, the darkness outside, and the exhaustion that had been weighing on him for hours gradually became too much to resist. His eyelids grew heavier until they finally closed without him realizing it.

Sleep claimed him almost immediately.

After so many sleepless nights and the sheer strain of everything that had happened, his body surrendered completely, dragging him into a deep sleep that was anything but peaceful.

Bryce rarely dreamed, but that night his mind seemed determined to compensate for it.

One dream flowed into another in an endless succession, each dissolving almost as soon as it began and giving way to something even stranger, leaving him unable to understand what any of it meant.

In one of them, he was running.

His stomach was enormously swollen, unmistakably resembling a pregnancy, and one of his arms was wrapped protectively around it, terrified that whatever was inside him might somehow be harmed by the frantic movement as he hurried forward

He ran as though something behind him was determined to catch him, and when he finally looked back, a wolf was pursuing him.

It ran on four powerful legs, closing the distance with astonishing speed, yet somehow it could not catch him.

Bryce was painfully slow beneath the weight of his swollen stomach, but no matter how rapidly the creature pursued him, it remained just beyond his reach.

A moment later, a man joined the chase.

He was unmistakably human in appearance, running alongside the wolf as though the two were working together, both determined to catch him.

And no matter how close they came to him, the man’s face remained too indistinct for Bryce to recognize him.

The dream shifted without warning.

Suddenly, he was not running anymore.

He was lying on a hospital bed, his body positioned beneath the harsh lights while a doctor stood between his legs, repeatedly urging him onward with one relentless command.

"Puuuuush..."

Push?

Even within the dream, confusion clouded Bryce’s mind.

Why was he being told to push?

Push what?

Two men stood beside the bed, one on either side of him. Concern was etched across their faces, but their features remained frustratingly indistinct, as though his mind refused to let him see who they were.

Both reached for his hands.

Bryce gripped them tightly as he struggled to follow the doctor’s instructions, pushing with everything he could muster while the two men held onto him.

And then a baby’s cry pierced the room.

A newborn was brought toward him.

His baby?

Was this what he had been pushing to deliver?

The impossibility of it should have overwhelmed him, but the moment the baby was placed in his arms, an instinctive attachment surged through him, leaving no room for him to question how any of it could possibly be real.

He held the tiny body close, an inexplicable connection taking root within him as though he had been waiting for that child all his life.

Before he could make sense of any of it, the hospital disappeared.

He was walking through the gates of a magnificent house, the baby secured in his arms while the same two men accompanied him on either side.

He did not recognize the property, yet something about it felt strangely familiar. He approached the entrance and pushed the door open, only to be met by a blinding radiance that flooded his vision.

He recoiled slightly, raising his hand against the brilliance, and through the overwhelming light, a woman appeared before him.

She was breathtaking.

She looked almost angelic, but even that comparison seemed inadequate. There was something otherworldly about her beauty, something so ethereal that Bryce could barely bring himself to look directly at her.

"Why aren’t you walking in?" one of the men beside him asked.

Bryce glanced toward him.

The man appeared completely unaffected by the woman standing in front of them.

Neither did the other man.

Perhaps he was the only one who could see her.

She looked furious.

Bryce could feel her anger radiating from her, a force so potent that it seemed to reverberate through the earth beneath them.

But even with the fury radiating from her, she smiled.

"Congratulations. This childbirth is a gift for the arduous work you are going to have to undertake in the near future."

Her voice was smooth and composed, but there was immense power beneath it, making every word feel far more significant than Bryce could understand.

Confusion clouded his mind.

"Wha... Which work?"

The smile vanished from her face.

The anger returned with more force that the entire house seemed to tremble around them, the ground beneath Bryce’s feet shuddering beneath the weight of whatever fury she was struggling to contain.

But somehow, Bryce could tell that her anger was not directed at him, and if it wasn’t him, then who was she angry with?

"I..." She began, but her voice suddenly grew distant.

"Bryce?"

The sound reached him faintly, as though it were coming from somewhere beyond the world he was in.

"Bryce."

The angel’s image began to blur.

"Bryce."

He jolted awake.

Before he could even comprehend where he was or who was calling his name, irritation erupted from him with startling force.

"Why the fuck did you wake me up?"

Anger weighed heavily in his voice, but even as the words left his mouth, Bryce sensed that the fury was not entirely his own, something deeper seemed to be reacting with him, furious at being dragged out of the dream just as he was about to uncover something important.

He stared at Vincent, still disoriented.

"You were sweating, shaking, and talking in your sleep," Vincent explained. "I thought you were having a nightmare, so I decided to wake you."

Bryce blinked, trying to clear the remnants of sleep from his mind.

"Besides, we’re already running late for the meeting. You can sleep once we come back."

Bryce glanced around- he wasn’t inside the car anymore.

He was lying in a bed.

The realization struck him fully, and he immediately pushed himself upright.
