Luna saw what I had done.
Then she copied me.
She used her Light Affinity to cover her body with a thin layer of light.
Almost immediately, the pressure surrounding her disappeared as well.
Yet neither of us showed any reaction.
We simply remained calm.
The instructor noticed.
His eyes moved between Luna and me before he finally walked toward us.
Since I had been the first one to do it, he stopped directly in front of me.
"What is your name?"
I looked at him expressionlessly.
"Gray."
He nodded slightly.
Then his expression became more serious.
"Do you think this is a joke, Gray?"
"When I release my pressure, you think you can simply use another method to make it disappear?"
Luna looked at me with a slightly worried expression.
But before she could say anything, I answered.
"No."
The instructor raised an eyebrow.
"Then why did you do it?"
I looked directly into his eyes.
I wasn’t afraid of him.
"Because I can."
His eyes narrowed.
"Explain."
I thought for a moment before answering.
"If you have a pillow, you don’t sleep without using it, right?"
He stared at me.
I continued calmly.
"It’s the same thing."
"I have the power to make this pressure disappear, so I use it."
"It’s my own power."
"I’m not using any outside tools or relying on someone else."
"If I can remove the pressure using my own strength, then refusing to use it would be illogical."
The instructor stared at me for several seconds.
His eyes remained narrowed.
Then...
He suddenly burst into loud laughter.
"Hahaha!"
"I like you, kid."
"You’ve got guts."
His laughter gradually faded before he looked at me again.
"What is your family name?"
I nodded.
"Starlight."
The instructor’s expression immediately changed.
"Hmm..."
"That makes sense."
"You really are related to that woman."
I didn’t respond.
I didn’t particularly like the way he referred to my mother as that woman.
Still...
His tone didn’t carry any disrespect.
If anything, it sounded more like admiration.
So I simply let it go.
The instructor then turned toward Luna.
"You did well too."
Luna nodded politely.
As for Amy and Elena...
They didn’t need to do anything.
The pressure didn’t seem to affect them at all.
The instructor returned to his position.
I noticed Chloe staring at me in shock.
Eithen, on the other hand, looked dissatisfied.
Chloe’s reaction was understandable.
She had expected Eithen to be the one who impressed the instructor.
After all, he was the person she believed would eventually become one of the strongest talents of our generation.
Yet...
I had casually neutralized the instructor’s pressure before he had even said anything.
Chloe couldn’t understand where I had suddenly appeared from.
I paid neither of them any attention.
The instructor looked over all of us.
"Alright."
"I don’t care about speeches."
"I don’t care about excuses."
"I only care about results."
His voice became firm.
"As for your first task..."
"One hundred rounds."
He pointed toward the massive running track surrounding the training grounds.
"You will complete one hundred laps."
"No mana enhancement."
"No additional tools."
"Nothing."
His eyes swept across the group.
"If I find anyone cheating..."
"I’ll make sure they never do it again."
A dangerous smile appeared on his face.
"The Empress has given me complete authority over this training program."
"So don’t think flaunting your family name will save you."
He clapped his hands once.
"Alright."
"Move."
"I’ll be watching you."
I immediately nodded.
My eyes practically lit up with excitement.
Finally.
Something like this was exactly what I had wanted.
I moved toward the track and began running.
I kept a steady pace.
Luna soon came alongside me.
We looked at each other.
Then we both nodded.
And continued running.
Neither of us spoke.
This wasn’t a vacation.
We had come here to train.
So we treated it seriously.
I activated my perception.
The instructor had forbidden us from using mana to enhance our bodies.
He hadn’t forbidden us from observing ourselves.
So I used my perception to monitor everything.
Every breath.
Every exhale.
Every movement of my legs.
Every step.
The distance between each stride.
The rhythm of my breathing.
I adjusted everything with precision.
Step.
Breathe.
Step.
Exhale.
My body gradually settled into a perfect rhythm.
One lap.
Then another.
Then ten.
Twenty.
Thirty.
Luna maintained almost exactly the same pace beside me.
We exchanged occasional glances, but neither of us said anything.
We didn’t want to turn the training into some kind of leisurely outing.
We were here to improve.
At forty laps, I still felt fine.
At fifty...
Still fine.
At sixty...
My breathing remained controlled.
Sixty-one.
Sixty-two.
We continued.
I noticed Eithen and Chloe running as well.
Chloe was surprisingly capable.
Her pace was considerably better than most of the other participants.
She’s talented.
I made a mental note of it before returning my attention to the track.
Amy and Elena weren’t running with us.
They had been assigned to a different instructor and a different training program.
That made sense.
Their strength was already considerably higher than ours.
Keeping them in the same group would only limit their progress.
So I continued running.
Around us, several participants were already struggling.
Some were breathing heavily.
Others had slowed down considerably.
A few looked ready to give up.
I glanced at them for a moment.
Then continued.
I had reached ninety-five laps.
Only five more.
Luna moved slightly closer beside me.
Even for us, the constant running was beginning to become uncomfortable.
But neither of us stopped.
Ninety-six.
Ninety-seven.
Ninety-eight.
Ninety-nine.
And finally...
One hundred.
We crossed the finishing line almost together.
I stopped and took a deep breath.
Inhale.
Exhale.
My lungs burned slightly.
I looked toward Luna.
She was catching her breath as well.
I couldn’t resist smiling.
"Good job."
Then I added with a grin.
"It’s a shame you failed."
"Now I can laugh at you."
Luna immediately glared at me.
Even while trying to catch her breath, she somehow managed to look threatening.
"You wish."
"I was waiting for you to fail so I could laugh at you."
"Hmph."
She turned around and walked back toward our previous position.
I followed her.
We waited for the others to finish.
As I looked around the training ground, I noticed Chloe standing beside Eithen.
She was encouraging him while he struggled to maintain his pace.
Interesting.
Chloe was clearly better than most of the participants.
Yet she had slowed down to stay beside Eithen.
It seemed she genuinely cared about him.
They really do have a good relationship.
I wasn’t particularly interested in their relationship, though.
My attention returned to the training.
After some time, the remaining participants finally completed their hundred laps.
The instructor walked toward us.
He looked over everyone.
"Alright."
He paused.
Then his gaze moved toward several participants.
"Some of you barely managed to pass."
His eyes briefly settled on Eithen, Chloe, and Elara.
None of them said anything.
The instructor simply nodded.
"Remember this."
"This was only the beginning."
The instructor eventually returned to his position and looked over the participants.
"Take a ten-minute break."
Everyone immediately relaxed.
But before anyone could get too comfortable, he continued.
"After that..."
"Prepare yourselves for one hundred push-ups."
A collective groan immediately spread through the training ground.
Several participants looked like they had just been sentenced to death.
Only Luna and I remained completely calm.
I glanced at her.
"One hundred push-ups."
A small smirk appeared on my face.
"I’m sure you’ll be finished before me."
Luna immediately turned toward me.
Her competitive spirit practically lit up her eyes.
"We’ll see about that."
"Let’s see who’s finished first."
She paused and looked around.
The instructor was busy observing the other participants, and no one seemed to be paying attention to us.
Luna’s expression remained completely calm.
Then—
She clenched her fist and quickly punched my shoulder.
Thump.
I stared at her in surprise.
She immediately returned to her usual impassive expression and looked straight ahead as if nothing had happened.
I blinked.
"...Seriously?"
She ignored me completely.
I could only sigh.
There was nothing I could do about it.
The ten-minute break eventually came to an end.
The instructor stepped forward.
"Begin."
I immediately dropped into position.
This time, there was no time to look around.
No time to observe the other participants.
No time to joke around with Luna.
There was only one thing on my mind.
One.
I lowered my body.
Two.
I pushed myself back up.
Three.
Again.
And again.
My breathing remained steady.
My posture stayed controlled.
I didn’t allow my movements to become sloppy.
Using Perception, I carefully monitored every part of my body.
Every breath.
Every exhale.
Every movement of my arms.
The position of my back.
The angle of my elbows.
Even the rhythm of my muscles as they contracted and relaxed.
I wasn’t simply counting the repetitions.
I was making every single movement as efficient as possible.
Four.
Five.
Six...
The push-ups continued.
And this time...
I wasn’t thinking about finishing quickly.
I was thinking about doing them correctly.
