Dark-violet energy continued pouring from Lathel’s body.
The violet markings spread from his arm to his neck, then climbed along one side of his face. Every time they lit up, the air around him trembled faintly, as though an invisible force were pressing down on the entire area.
His normally ordinary eyes had turned into an eerie shade of violet.
Cold enough that Aldric instinctively tightened his grip on his wand and stepped back half a pace.
"Impossible..."
Aldric knew Lathel.
Or at least, he had always believed he did.
An orphan adopted as a child of blessing.
No status.
No outstanding talent.
In the plot Aldric knew, the name Lathel was not even important enough to appear in the main storyline.
A true Extra.
And yet the mana pressing down on this area was making every instinct in Aldric’s body scream danger.
"No..."
His gaze locked onto the glowing violet markings covering Lathel’s skin, and his expression turned ugly.
"A side character who doesn’t even exist in the main plot... How can you possibly have this kind of power?"
Lathel heard every word clearly.
He simply could not answer.
His mind was still conscious. He could still feel the pain in his abdomen and ribs.
But his body was no longer obeying him.
’Pandora.’
"Mm?"
Lathel tried to move a finger.
Nothing.
’Give my body back.’
Pandora actually sounded surprised.
"You were just beaten into the ground. Now I’m helping you beat him back, and you still have complaints?"
Before Lathel could react, the scenery in front of him suddenly stretched into long streaks.
His body vanished.
Aldric only had time to see a flash of black-violet light rushing toward him.
"What—"
Lathel was already in front of him.
No chant.
No magic circle.
No preparation.
Pandora controlled Lathel’s right hand, clenched it into a fist, and drove it straight into Aldric’s stomach.
BOOM!
The air exploded.
Aldric’s clothes caved inward over his abdomen as his entire body folded like he had been rammed by a massive magical beast.
Every trace of air was crushed from his lungs.
His eyes bulged.
He could not even make a sound.
Pandora gave him no time to recover.
Lathel’s body twisted sideways.
His leg whipped into Aldric’s ribs.
THUD!
Aldric was kicked off the ground and sent flying more than ten meters before slamming back-first into a large tree.
The bark cracked from the impact.
His body dropped to the ground, and the moment he tried to push himself up—
he spat out a mouthful of blood.
"Cough!"
Pain from his abdomen and ribs left Aldric’s mind blank for several seconds.
Ever since transmigrating into this world, he had faced plenty of danger.
But never once had he imagined a day when Lathel would beat him like this.
That man could not even chant a spell.
"Impossible..."
Aldric wiped his mouth, stared at the streak of blood on the back of his hand, then suddenly shouted,
"Impossible!"
He looked up.
Lathel was walking toward him.
His pace was not fast.
But the black energy around him moved with every step like living mist.
Those emotionless violet eyes made Aldric feel, for the first time, that the person approaching him was completely different from the man he had always trampled whenever he pleased.
Pandora laughed inside Lathel’s head.
"Well? I told you meeting me was the greatest stroke of luck in your life."
Lathel did not respond.
Pandora made his body accelerate.
"Trash like this actually dared bully my boy."
’Don’t call me that.’
"You still have enough energy to complain about how I address you. Looks like you’re not dying yet."
Aldric gritted his teeth and immediately raised his wand.
"Wind Blades!"
A green magic circle appeared at the tip of the wand.
Three sharp blades of wind tore through the air.
Pandora did not even dodge.
Lathel only raised one hand.
Black energy instantly condensed into a thin barrier in front of him.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
All three Wind Blades shattered the moment they struck it.
Aldric froze.
"No chant... Not even a magic circle?"
Some of the knowledge Morgana had once taught him about ancient magic immediately surfaced in his mind.
But Lathel had already disappeared from his sight again.
Aldric spun around.
Too late.
A hand grabbed his collar and yanked him forward.
Lathel’s knee smashed directly into his stomach, folding Aldric over.
Then his left elbow came down hard against the back of Aldric’s neck.
THUD!
Aldric crashed face-first into the ground.
A moment later, Lathel’s foot came down on his back.
BOOM!
The earth beneath Aldric caved in.
Dirt blasted outward.
"Cough!"
Blood spilled from his mouth again.
Pandora laughed happily.
"Weaker than I expected. Watching him hit you earlier, I thought he at least had some ability."
"You... bastard..."
Aldric tried circulating his mana.
The foot on his back immediately pressed harder.
Crack.
A faint sound came from his ribs.
Aldric went rigid from the pain.
Lathel felt it too.
’Enough.’
Pandora did not answer.
His body bent down.
One hand grabbed Aldric by the hair and pulled his head upward.
Those cold violet eyes appeared directly in front of him.
For the first time, the rage in Aldric’s eyes gave way to fear.
Pandora spoke inside Lathel’s mind.
Her tone was softer than before.
And much colder.
"He wanted to kill you."
She paused.
"And just now, he killed an unrelated man simply to silence him."
Lathel looked toward the shattered carriage.
Bram was still lying motionless on the ground.
The corner of the blue handkerchief stuck out from his pocket.
The sight brought back the man talking about his wife and children.
Pandora continued,
"You’re angry because he treats lives like weeds, aren’t you?"
Black energy slowly gathered around Lathel’s raised fist.
The mana compressed so densely that tiny cracks began spreading across the ground beneath Aldric.
"A person like this stays alive today, and tomorrow he’ll keep killing."
Pandora said only two words.
"Kill him."
Aldric felt the killing intent.
His face immediately turned pale.
"Wait—"
The fist came down.
’No.’
Lathel’s arm stopped in midair.
Less than a handspan remained between his fist and Aldric’s head.
The pressure alone whipped Aldric’s hair wildly, while the ground beside his face collapsed into a small crater.
Pandora paused.
"What are you doing?"
Lathel fought to regain control of his body.
His arm trembled violently.
The black energy around him fluctuated along with it.
’Don’t kill him.’
"Are you stupid?" Pandora’s voice immediately rose. "He was trying to kill you! He even murdered that driver!"
’I know.’
"You know, and you’re still stopping me?"
Lathel looked down at Aldric beneath his foot.
He was angry.
Perhaps for the first time across both of his lives, Lathel truly wanted someone to pay this badly.
But if he let Pandora crush Aldric’s skull in a moment of rage—
Lathel did not know where his next boundary would be.
’I want him to pay.’
He continued forcing his arm to remain still.
’But not like this.’
Pandora fell silent for several seconds.
Then she practically shouted inside his mind.
"You really are an idiot!"
And that moment of internal struggle gave Aldric exactly the opening he needed.
The fear in his eyes instantly disappeared.
His right hand, already pressed against the ground, lit up.
A blue magic circle rapidly formed beneath his palm.
"Lightning Strike!"
Pandora noticed immediately.
"Lathel!"
BOOM!
Blue-white lightning struck Lathel directly in the chest.
His body was blasted off Aldric, hit the ground, and rolled several times.
The black energy around him became chaotic.
A burning sensation spread from his chest all the way to his fingertips.
A hoarse sound escaped his throat.
Aldric pushed himself up onto one knee and wiped the blood from his mouth.
"Idiot."
He was breathing heavily, but the corner of his mouth curled upward again.
"You have power but don’t know how to kill."
His eyes were filled with contempt.
"An Extra is still just an Extra."
The black energy around Lathel suddenly surged.
Pandora seized control again.
"You’re really making me angry now."
Lathel could not tell whether she meant Aldric or him.
Probably both.
His body sprang from the ground and became a black-violet streak charging straight ahead.
Aldric barely managed to raise his wand.
Pandora twisted Lathel’s body in midair.
His leg swept toward Aldric’s temple.
Just before the strike landed—
a semi-transparent figure suddenly appeared in front of Aldric.
Long hair moved within the turbulent mana.
Her mature face remained calm, but her eyes had turned solemn.
Morgana.
She raised one hand.
"Stop."
A dark blue-black barrier immediately appeared.
BOOM!
Lathel’s leg slammed into it.
A shockwave of mana exploded around them.
The recoil threw him backward.
The moment he landed, one knee dropped to the ground.
Pandora clicked her tongue.
"Another troublesome soul."
Morgana did not answer.
She only stared at the violet markings across Lathel’s skin, her expression growing increasingly serious.
"This power..."
Aldric did not care what she was thinking.
Seeing Lathel weaken, he immediately raised his wand.
"Die!"
Lightning gathered around its tip.
Pandora tried to make Lathel dodge.
But the violet markings covering his body suddenly flashed several times—
then dimmed.
She froze.
"Damn it."
Lathel immediately felt his limbs grow as heavy as lead.
’What happened?’
"We’re out of energy."
Lathel: "..."
"Don’t look at me. With that pitifully weak body of yours, how long did you think I could keep using my power?"
Ahead of them, Aldric’s spell was already complete.
Lightning compressed into a beam even larger than the last one and shot directly toward Lathel.
He tried to move.
His legs had no strength left.
The lightning rapidly filled his entire field of vision.
Then—
WHOOSH!
A sharp sound tore through the air from the right.
A long, slender rapier pierced through the space between them.
Its tip struck with perfect precision at a weak point within the lightning.
BOOM!
The bolt was forced off course and exploded into the ground several meters away from Lathel, leaving behind a blackened crater.
Aldric snapped his head around.
A figure was rushing through the trees.
A mask covered most of her face.
A white cloak whipped violently behind her.
And thin black threads had already begun appearing between her fingers.
Aldric’s pupils contracted.
Catrina.
