The Extra's Regressor Wives

Chapter 63: Today is really unlucky

The next morning, the moment Kiyome opened the door to her room, the bronze handle immediately fell off with a "clack," rolled twice across the floor, and stopped right in front of the tip of her shoe. Kiyome stood there staring at it, while the maid behind her did not dare move either, leaving the corridor silent for several seconds before the woman cautiously called, "My Lady..."

"Replace it."

"Yes."

Kiyome stepped over the door handle, completely unwilling to let such a trivial matter affect her mood, but after only a few steps, the golden clasp holding her cloak suddenly popped loose, causing the fabric on her shoulder to slide down. She quickly caught it before the maid hurried forward to help.

"Allow me to..."

"No need."

Kiyome fastened the clasp herself and even checked it twice before continuing. However, this time she had only made it halfway down the staircase when a maid coming up from below somehow slipped on the last step. The cry of "Ah!" had barely sounded when the tray in her hands flew away. Kiyome immediately leaned aside, allowing three plates and a water pitcher to sweep past her face before crashing behind her with a sharp shattering sound.

Nothing touched her, but an apple from the tray rolled down the stairs one step at a time and stopped directly beneath Kiyome’s foot just as she stepped forward again. The moment she stepped on it, her body immediately lost balance, but fortunately, she managed to grab the railing in time and barely kept herself from falling. Every servant nearby immediately fell silent, the fox ears on Kiyome’s head twitched slightly, and she slowly looked down at the crushed apple beneath her foot.

"Today..." Her voice was very soft, making the maid beside her unconsciously swallow. "...the floor seems a little slippery."

"Yes, it must be the floor."

Kiyome turned toward her, causing the maid to immediately lower her head. She did not pursue the matter further, but the cold sensation that had been clinging to her Fate since yesterday caused her golden eyes to slowly narrow.

Dark Curse.

Kiyome could not say those four words aloud, but after what happened with the broken cup yesterday, she already knew that whatever had attached itself to her was not merely a warning. It was genuinely taking effect. The problem was that it did not create anything too unreasonable: a door handle could come loose, a cloak clasp could pop open, a servant could slip, and an apple could naturally roll down the stairs and stop in exactly the wrong place. It was simply that the probability of all those things happening to the same person within less than five minutes was so low that she did not need to think to understand the cause.

Kiyome continued walking, but before she even reached the main hall, the auction house manager hurried toward her with a slightly unpleasant expression. "My Lady."

"What now?"

The man paused at those two words, but quickly continued his report. "The shipment meant for Room Three was mistakenly delivered to Room Seven. Fortunately, the seal was not opened, so there was no loss."

"Move it back."

"Yes."

"Anything else?"

The manager looked down at the paper in his hand before continuing. "The magical appraisal board in the western section suddenly stopped working just as Count Havan’s party arrived. The Mage is currently checking it. In addition, a shipment of high-grade medicinal ingredients just came through the transport Magic Array, but the arrival point was displaced by about three meters and smashed one of the display cabinets."

Kiyome looked at him, causing the manager to immediately add, "The medicinal ingredients were not damaged."

"Very good."

Her voice was so calm that the man facing her did not dare say anything else. Kiyome took the report and continued walking. This auction house had been operating for many years, and malfunctions were naturally nothing new, but normally even an entire month might pass without three incidents happening in a row like this. Today had barely begun.

She closed her fan, and a thought surfaced in her mind:

’Lathel is only slightly annoyed with me.’

Kiyome’s steps slowed. If only a little negative emotion could already bring all these things upon her, then...

BOOM!

A sudden roar of cheering echoed from deep underground, making her frown. The arena was usually not very crowded in the morning, and it was even rarer for a match to become loud enough for the noise to pass through two layers of soundproofing Magic Arrays and reach this area, so Kiyome immediately looked at the manager.

"Is there a special match today?"

The man quickly checked the schedule. "Nothing was planned, but about half an hour ago, a guest fighter registered to challenge Dire Beast Number Seven."

"A guest fighter?"

"Yes. He paid a very high fee and said he didn’t want any reward."

Kiyome was not interested and only asked coldly, "Name?"

The manager looked down. "Aldric."

Her steps immediately stopped, and the two fox ears on top of her head also rose slightly. "...Who?"

"Aldric."

Kiyome fell silent. They had only met last night. Aldric had sat inside that abandoned estate boasting that he possessed the Soul Guidance Ritual, talked about Lathel’s Fate, then used the possibility of reviving her tribe to pressure her into cooperating. Yet this morning, he had already run to her arena.

"Did he leave any message?"

The manager nodded. "He said that if My Lady had time..."

Kiyome had already guessed the rest. "...I should go watch."

She closed her eyes, an indescribable feeling passing through her mind before she turned around. "Seriously... Take me downstairs."

...

Inside the arena, thousands of cheers thundered from every direction. Aldric stood in the middle of the sandy floor, holding a wand in one hand while keeping the other behind his back. In front of him stood a Dire Beast nearly four meters tall. Its entire body was covered in thick black fur like a wolf’s, but its front legs were abnormally massive, and each claw was nearly as long as an adult man’s forearm.

Three red metal rings were locked around its neck, chest, and abdomen. Magical lines running across their surfaces continuously glowed, suppressing most of the Dire Beast’s strength.

Aldric had asked for all the details carefully before entering. Under the three layers of seals, the beast retained only around thirty percent of its normal strength, making it the perfect opponent: not so weak that the fight would lose its value, but not strong enough to truly threaten him.

Aldric did not lack money, nor was he interested in the cheap cheers of ordinary people. But after everything that had happened recently, especially the time when whatever existed inside Lathel had beaten him to the point where he could barely fight back, he needed to regain the feeling that he still stood above others. Kiyome’s attitude last night had only irritated him further, because a woman who should have been easily controlled once he grasped her weakness had instead kept doubting him, setting conditions, and had even dared say she could capture him and force the secret out of him.

Aldric did not like that look in her eyes.

She needed to understand who she was cooperating with.

"BEGIN!"

The moment the bell rang, the Dire Beast immediately charged.

Aldric curled his lips, spun his wand once, and three fireballs immediately appeared before shooting straight ahead.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The Dire Beast was forced sideways, but Aldric did not remain still and wait. He stepped to the left, swept his wand horizontally, and sent a blade of flame directly into the beast’s side. Blood sprayed onto the sand, and the audience immediately erupted.

"BEAUTIFUL!"

"KEEP GOING!"

"KILL IT!"

Hearing the shouting around him, Aldric’s smile widened. This was how things were supposed to be. He should not be the one beaten and lying on the ground, nor should he have to listen to some strange woman inside Lathel’s body mocking him. He was the Protagonist. Everyone else should be the ones looking up at him.

The Dire Beast roared and charged again. Aldric leaned aside to dodge its claw, pivoted across the sand, then appeared beside its body.

"Slow."

His wand struck downward, and a pillar of fire immediately erupted beneath the beast’s abdomen.

BOOM!

Its enormous body was thrown sideways. Aldric glanced toward the VIP stands but still did not see Kiyome, causing him to frown.

’Still not here?’

He had deliberately sent someone to inform her, but if that was the case, then he only needed to keep fighting a little longer. She would definitely come.

In the control area behind the arena, a Mage was watching the three Magic Crystals controlling the seals when one of them suddenly flickered. He frowned and said, "The parameters of the first layer are fluctuating slightly."

The person beside him looked over. "Still within the limit."

"Yeah."

No one noticed that a hair-thin crack had already appeared on the surface of the Magic Crystal. A faint "crack" sounded, and the fracture spread a little farther.

Inside the arena, the Dire Beast suddenly roared, the muscles beneath its black fur tightening as its speed sharply increased. Aldric was slightly surprised when one claw swept past his shoulder, but he stepped back and laughed.

"Finally getting serious?"

The cheering grew even louder. Aldric raised his wand, and a red Magic Array appeared, but at the same moment...

Crack!

The first Magic Crystal shattered, causing one of the rings around the Dire Beast’s chest to immediately go dark. The controller flinched and immediately reached toward the bell used to stop the match. "Wait!"

At that exact moment, the magical board in front of him suddenly went dark.

"What happened?"

"The second mana joint is overloaded!"

"That’s impossible! It was inspected this morning!"

"Stop the match first!"

One person rushed toward the control lever when a small explosion sounded, and the second layer of the seal immediately shut down. Everyone in the room turned pale at once.

"REPORT IT NOW!"

...

The door to the VIP room burst open. The moment Kiyome stepped inside and looked down at the arena, her eyes immediately landed on the two extinguished sealing rings, causing her expression to change.

"Stop the match!"

The manager running behind her had not yet understood. "My Lady?"

"Two layers of the seal have already failed!"

He immediately looked at the control board and turned pale. Kiyome rushed to the railing and shouted, "ALDRIC!"

Down in the arena, Aldric had just avoided a pounce when he looked up. When he finally saw Kiyome appear, the corner of his lips rose.

"No need to worry."

Kiyome: "..."

Aldric raised his wand, mana erupting around him. "It’s only a beast."

The female subordinate standing behind Kiyome looked down at him before cautiously asking, "My Lady... does he know the seals have broken?"

"...No."

"Should we shout louder?"

Kiyome tightened her grip on the railing and shouted so loudly that her voice nearly filled the entire VIP room. "IDIOT! GET OUT OF THERE!"

Aldric paused slightly. Was she really that worried about him? A wave of satisfaction immediately rose inside him. As expected, as long as he showed Kiyome enough strength, her attitude would...

Before the thought could even finish, the Dire Beast vanished from where it had been standing.
