Chapter 285: Chapter 285 - Reaching the destination

On the other side, the spaceship that had entered the black hole was warping through space at a speed completely invisible to human eyes. From Li Wang’s perspective, there was nothing to see outside except an endless flash of white light, so bright and constant that he couldn’t make out anything beyond it. Yet despite the unimaginable speed at which they were traveling, the ride itself was unbelievably smooth.

There was hardly any sensation of movement at all.

After spending some time in his room, Li Wang finally stepped out, only to find Eren and Varon standing outside. They were unmistakably waiting for him, and from the way Eren had raised his hand, they had probably been about to knock.

"Oh, you’re out," Eren said with a grin. "I thought you might become a little clam, hiding in your shell all day."

He playfully knocked on Li Wang’s head.

Li Wang immediately slapped his hand away. "I was getting hungry."

Without waiting for a response, he pushed past him and walked down the corridor.

"Come on. Let’s go see what they have in the cafeteria," Eren said, following after him. "The Farian soldiers really looted a lot of human food. I bet you’ll really like it."

"Really? Where did they even manage to find unexpired food?" Li Wang asked, adjusting his glasses.

Despite his sarcastic tone, he was genuinely curious.

It had been five years since the Grayling invasion. Any food that had been manufactured before the invasion and left behind on Earth would have been sitting around for years. There was no way most of it could still be good.

Eren paused.

"Food expires?"

Li Wang stopped walking and stared at him in disbelief.

"Yes! Didn’t you guys check the expiry dates?"

Eren gave him an awkward look before rubbing the back of his neck.

"I don’t think my men checked the dates and such..." He thought about it for a moment before shrugging. "Oh well. It would probably just be a little more musty and sour. It’s not that bad."

"It’s bad."

Li Wang looked at him as though he had just said something completely insane.

"You can get very sick if you eat expired food."

The two continued arguing about it as they made their way toward the cafeteria, with Varon walking behind them and listening quietly.

The moment Li Wang stepped inside, however, he stopped dead.

The cafeteria was filled with the sounds of happy conversation. Farian soldiers were sitting around the tables, eating what appeared to be human snacks with great enthusiasm. Pizza pockets and Pop-Tarts were spread across the tables, and judging by the packaging Li Wang could see, some of them had been expired for years.

His eyes widened.

"Oh, Lord..." he muttered, staring at the soldiers in horror. "How good is your guys’ digestive system?"

Varon raised an eyebrow.

"We can tolerate a lot," he said confidently. "I bet this will not hurt anyone."

Li Wang stared at him.

He had a very bad feeling about that statement.

And he was very, very right.

Within the next hour, the cafeteria had transformed from a cheerful gathering place into complete chaos.

Li Wang sighed as he looked at the poor woman who was desperately trying to deal with the growing number of soldiers complaining about their stomachs. There were simply too many of them, and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t possibly handle all of them by herself.

So Li Wang had no choice but to step in.

He searched through the supplies the soldiers had brought from their human loot and, after some digging, managed to find a few jars of honey. He quickly prepared warm honey water and had the soldiers drink it, hoping it would help settle their stomachs and ease some of the discomfort caused by the expired food.

He also instructed them to drink plenty of water over the next few hours and, most importantly, to get some proper rest.

The poor soldiers were completely wiped out.

By the time they were nearing their destination, almost ninety percent of the soldiers had been affected, leaving only around ten percent healthy enough to move around without feeling like they were dying.

Li Wang couldn’t help but wonder how a race with such impressive strength had somehow been defeated by a few expired snacks.

Just as he was beginning to think the situation couldn’t possibly get any worse, an announcement sounded throughout the ship.

"We will be reaching Gia in approximately one hour."

Li Wang looked up.

They were finally there.

Around the same time, the warp mechanism began disengaging as the spaceship prepared to exit the black hole. The strange sensation of traveling through warped space gradually faded, and the intense white light outside the windows began to change.

Curious, Li Wang made his way toward the observation deck.

He wanted to get a proper look at Gia before they arrived.

The observation deck offered a much wider view, and he stood near the glass, waiting for the darkness of space to clear. He couldn’t help feeling a strange mixture of curiosity and nervousness. This was the first time he was going to see the planet that would soon become his new home.

But unexpectedly, someone followed him.

Li Wang glanced back and noticed Celaus standing there.

The prince hadn’t said a single word since entering the observation deck. He simply stood a short distance away, his tall figure silent and imposing as he watched Li Wang.

Li Wang turned his attention back toward the window for a moment before looking at him again.

"I have a question for you."

Celaus’s expression softened ever so slightly, and a faint smile appeared on his face as he stepped closer.

"Ask me anything."

Li Wang gazed up at the prince.

"If it takes only a day to get to Gia, why didn’t you guys come earlier for Jian?"

The question had been bothering him.

Celaus always made it a point to say how much he cherished Jian as his brother, and Li Wang had seen how protective the prince could be of him. But if Jian’s life had been in danger, why hadn’t Celaus come sooner?

Why had it taken so long?

Celaus didn’t seem offended by the question. Instead, he simply nodded.

"That is a valid question."

He turned his gaze toward the vast view beyond the observation deck.

"When I entered the black hole with my ship, the black hole itself warped. It twisted in such a way that it made my journey longer and much harder than it should have been."

His expression became slightly more solemn as he remembered it.

"It is pure luck that we managed to get through it in just a day."

Celaus looked toward Li Wang again, and for perhaps the first time, there was a clear trace of awe in his eyes.

"Extreme luck."
