"Do you really have to kill them?"
Carson Flores was momentarily at a loss, then he asked, "Do you not want me to?"
Theo thought for a moment and said, "After my mother passed away, I’ve been living here. Although these Crystal Scorpions aren’t of the same race as me and I don’t really communicate with them, having them around makes me feel a little less lonely..."
Carson understood immediately upon hearing this.
After Theo’s mother died, it lived here alone, naturally feeling very lonely. With these Crystal Scorpions living in the Abyss alongside it, it felt less isolated.
Even without communication, in its heart, it had already regarded them as friends, a kind of emotional support.
It was well aware that the Crystal Scorpions existed because of it, but emotionally, it didn’t wish for them to be killed.
Carson chuckled wryly, "If we don’t kill them, others might not spare them either..."
Carson certainly wanted to earn Points, but considering he would travel with Theo afterwards and need Theo’s help, he didn’t want to do anything that would upset it. Moreover, with its strength, if it decided to protect the Crystal Scorpions forcefully, Carson wouldn’t be able to stop it.
His own strength couldn’t possibly match Theo’s, so he might as well do a favor.
"We can stop, but if you want to protect the Crystal Scorpions, they need to hide deep underground and never come out. If you can manage this, perhaps they can be kept safe. Otherwise, even if we don’t kill them, others will wipe them out."
"You are very strong, but since you haven’t reached adulthood, you probably aren’t quite comparable to adult Starry Sky Magical Beasts. If your identity is exposed, the people coming might not just be targeting the Crystal Scorpions, they might capture you too. I’ve heard there’s possibly a Quasi-Saint behind Immortal Gathering Island. You can withstand a Great Land Prime Immortal, but perhaps not a Quasi-Saint."
Theo’s eyes suddenly lit up at Carson’s words: "I have a way with this. They all listen to me; I can make them hide underground and never come out!"
Carson smiled, "Alright then, go take care of it, I’ll wait here for you."
Theo turned to leave, but suddenly stopped, asking, "Why do you want to kill those Crystal Scorpions?"
Carson replied, "Immortal Gathering Island needs the stingers of Crystal Scorpions. We kill them, take the stingers, and then exchange them with Immortal Gathering Island for what we want."
"The stingers?"
Theo thought for a moment, "Okay, I understand."
Theo turned and left, quickly disappearing into the dense, dark fog.
Nerisse Blaine let out a long breath, "This is really a lifeline from despair, Kaelen Flores, you’ve saved me again."
Carson laughed, "It’s just a coincidence. Who would have thought that I’d encounter a juvenile Starry Sky Magical Beast? Not really a life-saving gesture since I don’t want to die either; I have to protect myself."
Nerisse whispered, "Self-preservation isn’t the key point; the crucial thing is, without you, we’d be dead today, wouldn’t we, Maedryn Cobb?"
Maedryn nodded in agreement, looking seriously at Carson, "I owe you my life. Is there anything you need me to do?"
Carson stared at Maedryn and thought for a while, "Are you really intending to repay me?"
Maedryn nodded with determination, "I owe you a life, it’s a massive favor that needs repaying. Of course, if you want to take my life, I might not be very happy about that."
Carson couldn’t help but laugh, "You’re quite honest."
After a pause, Carson collected his humor, staring at Maedryn, "I actually do have a favor to ask of you..."
Maedryn’s eyes lit up, "Tell me."
Carson asked, "Can you ensure that what I tell you won’t be known by anyone else?"
Without hesitation, Maedryn swore an oath, clearly showing he really wanted to repay the favor.
Secrecy is nothing.
Isn’t that basic practice?
Carson turned to look at Nerisse, who blinked, "Do I need to swear too?"
Carson turned to look at Nerisse, smiling, "Do you want to know too?"
Nerisse nodded confidently, "Yes, I’m curious, I want to know what you need him to do."
Carson laughed, "I originally planned to discuss this privately with him later. If you want to know, you must swear since this involves others, not just me...
Nerisse smiled brightly and nodded, "I understand, I get it, a vow is all it takes!"
Nerisse also swore an oath without hesitation, agreeing not to divulge anything seen or heard in today’s Abyss.
Carson saw Nerisse had truly sworn, couldn’t help but ask, "Willing to vow and increase potential danger just to hear matters irrelevant to yourself, how curious are you?"
Nerisse smirked, "Don’t you know that women’s curiosity is particularly strong?"
With a helpless shake of his head, Carson saw that the two had sworn and, knowing their characters weren’t overly talkative, turned to ask, "In your Battle Hall, there’s a female cultivator named Spencer Steele, you know her, right?"
Maedryn’s eyes widened in surprise, "Yes, she and I qualified as Immortal Hall Disciples at the Ten Thousand Immortals Conference; I was first, she was second. Later, we performed outstandingly, both entered the Battle Hall, and the Hall Master appreciated us, bringing us close. I’m very familiar with her."
Carson chuckled lightly, "The task is simple: help me deliver a letter to her. Of course, you can’t read the contents."
Maedryn looked at Carson, surprised, "Just that?"
Carson nodded, "Yes, just that."
Maedryn showed a complex, indescribable expression, "Such a simple thing, effortlessly done, can’t consider it repaying a favor..."
Carson smiled, "You want to repay the favor, but I can’t think of anything else at the moment. Delivering that letter means you’ve truly helped me, and then you’re no longer in my debt, after all, saving you was incidental, not my purpose."
Maedryn fell silent for two seconds and then said, "Alright, I’ll make sure it gets there and won’t peek."
Carson smiled as he patted Maedryn’s arm, "Great, thanks."
Nerisse originally anticipated seeing something impressive, but it turned out to be a letter delivery, leaving her quite disappointed.
"Kaelen Flores, aren’t you just a Loose Cultivator? How do you know people from the Myriad Immortals Palace?"
Carson turned, smiling, "When traveling outside, more friends mean more opportunities. Isn’t it allowed to know people of position and status? You, being the Saintess of the Separation Sea Sect, haven’t I also become friends with you?"
Nerisse hadn’t anticipated Carson steering the conversation to her, making her laugh, "I can’t compare to the rising stars of the Myriad Immortals Palace; they have endless potential."
Carson casually replied, "You’re the Saintess of the Separation Sea Sect. You aren’t inferior to them!"
