Bet on fate?

Zorvyn Harrison snapped her head around. Her eyes, formerly dull and lifeless, suddenly lit up, her face filled with hope and disbelief.

Could he really be the one tied to her fate?

"I’m willing! What do I need to do?"

Zorvyn responded loudly to Carson Flores’s question, afraid that answering even a moment too late would cost her.

Carson replied, "I have a magical treasure that can contain people inside it and evade all forms of detection. As long as you’re willing, when I leave I can store you inside and take you off Immortal Gathering Island. But after that, you may face Immortal Gathering Island’s wanted notices and pursuit, maybe even other tracking methods..."

"I’m not afraid!"

Zorvyn answered without the slightest hesitation, "If Young Master Flores can help me escape Immortal Gathering Island and regain my freedom, that will be a tremendous favor to me. Even if I’m caught someday, I will never give you up."

Carson smiled faintly. "I’m just a Loose Cultivator who calls the four seas home, so I’m not afraid. Since you’re willing to bet once on fate, then let’s give it a try. Before I leave, you’ll have to find an excuse to get away from here, meet me somewhere hidden, and make sure that for a set period of time—that is, before I depart—no one will be looking for you, so we don’t give anything away."

Zorvyn answered crisply, "Alright!"

Carson asked with a smile, "Do you know what the process is for leaving?"

Zorvyn replied, "There’s a one-way Teleportation Gate on the island. Those who are leaving enter the gate and will be Teleported back to the North Sea of the Ten Thousand Immortals Domain. The point where they come out is random."

Carson asked, "You can leave at any time?"

"Yes. For the external Contractors, it’s very free. After all, everyone’s just in a cooperative relationship and not subordinate to Immortal Gathering Island."

Carson thought for a moment. "Since that’s the case, I’ll be leaving tomorrow at noon. Think about where we should meet in advance."

Zorvyn pondered. "Tomorrow morning I’ll find an excuse to leave my quarters, and then we’ll meet behind that great hall in the living area. No one goes there; it won’t attract attention."

"Good!"

After agreeing on a few more details, Carson took his leave.

As he was leaving, Carson ran into Zephyra again.

Zephyra once more apologized to Carson. "Young Master Flores, I truly am very sorry about this matter. I hope you won’t take it to heart."

Carson gave a carefree smile. "It’s fine. I’ve already done my best, so I have no regrets. Sometimes fate toys with people; there’s nothing you can do about it."

Zephyra smiled. "I’ll see you out."

Following Zephyra out the door, Carson turned back and said, "Thank you, Steward Zephyra. I’m guessing I’ll be ready to leave in a couple of days, so I’ll say my goodbyes early. If fate allows, we’ll meet again."

Zephyra’s gaze showed a hint of surprise. "You’re leaving already?"

Carson nodded. "I’ve already achieved the purpose of coming here, so naturally I should leave."

Zephyra bowed. "Then congratulations, Young Master Flores. Zephyra wishes you a bright future."

Back at his quarters, Carson saw Nerisse Blaine.

Nerisse laughed. "So, did the talks go well? How many Points do they want?"

Carson shook his head. "I couldn’t save her."

Nerisse asked in puzzlement, "Why not? Did they ask for too much? That shouldn’t be the case. She’s just a flower maiden, and among the flower maidens Zorvyn is quite ordinary..."

Carson gave a bitter smile and explained, "It seems Zorvyn’s identity is a bit special. I asked Zephyra, and Zephyra even went to report to the Island Master. The Island Master rejected it outright. Zephyra said all the other flower maidens could be redeemed, but Zorvyn is the exception."

"Huh, that really is strange."

Nerisse’s eyes were full of doubt. "If you were trying to redeem Nereida Nash, then them refusing you would make sense. But a normal flower maiden actually needed the Island Master’s approval and was then refused? That’s really bizarre."

Carson nodded. "Yeah, I find it strange too. But since it’s not possible, I didn’t press them for the reason."

Nerisse comforted him. "Everyone has their own fate. You’ve already done what you could."

Carson nodded and asked, "Did you get your items exchanged?"

Nerisse answered, "They’re all exchanged. My mission here is completed. I can leave at any time. What about you?"

Carson smiled. "I’m fine. Today I’m a bit tired, so I’ll rest for a day and leave tomorrow at noon."

Nerisse responded with a soft sound, then asked with concern, "What about your stingers, aren’t you going to exchange them?"

Carson explained calmly, "There’s nothing I particularly want to exchange for, and when you use surplus Points to exchange for things, the prices are heavily inflated. It’s quite a loss. I’ve noticed these stingers are made of excellent material, perfect for refining Flying Swords. I’ve just learned the Primeval Myriad Sword Art and need a huge number of Flying Swords. These stingers will be perfect for refining them."

Nerisse smiled sweetly. "I see. Well, that’s good. Since you have a good Cultivation Technique, you need matching Magic Artifacts for it, otherwise its power won’t come out. Your trip this time really has been quite fruitful."

Carson chuckled. "That’s all thanks to your help. Otherwise, things wouldn’t have gone half this smoothly..."
