Karl went from the Trial ground directly back to his room in the Tiny World.

That was the most secure place that he could think of for the advancement to complete, and if he opened the portal a little, he could still safely suck in mana from both the Guild House area and the apartment in the New Home Merchant Clan’s compound.

Not that he expected to need more mana just to finish a physical advancement.

The moment that he landed in bed, Karl’s clothing automatically unequipped itself and returned to storage, while his body returned to its natural human form before beginning to twist and deform. The change this time was not just a small one, or a matter of durability, his whole body was being remade.

Dana was going to join him, for moral support, but the System had erected a barrier, and she couldn’t enter the bedroom.

She could feel something strange through their soul bond, a definite imbalance, but it wasn’t trying to balance itself yet. That definitely wasn’t normal, as they were no longer in the trial, they were back in the Tiny World, and the Soul Bond should balance them nearly immediately.

Even if it wasn’t an instant balance, there should be a transfer process.

But there was nothing, and the longer that she felt that strange sense of otherness through the bond from the opposite side of the barrier, the more concerned she became.

As for Karl, he was deep in meditation, trying to focus on keeping conscious through the changes that were happening to his body, while resisting the urge to open his eyes and watch the process firsthand.

What he could see with his eyes was much less than what he could sense in total, and focusing on what they told him would distract him from the larger process.

The difference between an Epic Grade constitution and a Peerless Grade one was far larger than he had expected, and Karl was becoming increasingly certain that he was no longer the same species that he had been a day ago.

That was how completely his body had changed.

But he was keeping his eyes closed to focus on how it changed so that he could more thoroughly understand what else might need to be done to optimize himself for the Supreme Rank.

He could feel that he was still far short of the peak of Immortality, but with the change in his body, that distinction was mostly semantics.

The only thing he was missing was the Blessing of Supremacy, which would reduce damage done to him by Immortals by 99 Percent.

Even without the bonus damage reduction, he was already strong enough that most things couldn’t hurt him, and the changes to his physique were likely to increase his durability by an obscene degree.

Compared to a normal constitution, an Epic Grade version was like a dungeon boss, with ten times the durability that would normally be expected.

But he had never seen a Peerless Grade dungeon boss before.

So, there was no telling if the change would be a simple doubling or much more. However, going by the bonuses that weapons and accessories got at the Peerless Grade, it was likely to be substantial.

After nearly an hour of constant change, the process appeared to have finished, and Karl rose to his feet, stretching his body to check for anything that felt wrong.

That didn’t take long to find.

First off, he had claws. Not just fingernails, but long black claws that looked like they would tear through armour with relative ease.

Second, he had fur.

Not the familiar black and white fur of his Cat Demon form, which would have been a relief, as it was something that he was used to. Instead, this fur was jet black with golden runic patterns on his hands and forearms, which were the only part he had seen so far.

He also had a tail, he realized.

A thick feline tail with short black fur.

However, he also had wings.

Black scaled dragon wings that spread out behind him in an impressive arc, giving him a wingspan of nearly four metres.

"What exactly did it turn me into?" Karl wondered.

Then, he stepped up to the mirror, and realized that his entire appearance seemed to ripple. His head was Draconian, with scales and long teeth, but when he gave himself a confused look, it seemed to shift into a black furred feline head.

The scales on his chest shifted to fur, and then back again. And that was enough to tell Karl that he had gotten up too early.

"Definitely not fully baked yet," he decided.

So, he sat back down, and continued pouring energy into his body, working to finish the reformation, so that the lingering instability in his body would settle and pick a final form.

From what he could tell, it wasn’t sure if he should be a dragon or a large cat of some sort.

Neither was a bad option, in Karl’s opinion.

The all black was a bit dreary, given that it was usually associated with the Death God, but if it was an all black feline, it didn’t have the same connotation that an all black dragon did.

The Death God’s Avatars would have fits if people started to think that Karl was one of theirs.

Perhaps he was short on life energy?

He was a World Dragon Avatar, so there should likely be something of that in his [Ancient Beast] constitution, Karl assumed. But what else could an ancient beast be? What were the earliest beasts?

Karl knew that the dragons were an ancient species, but surely there were others, right?

To help the process along, Karl focused [Breath of the World] on himself. Because why not? And with a bit of humorous interpretation from the Gods, he should count as a magical creation in progress, right?

So, couldn’t he get a quality upgrade?

Just to be safe, he added a bit of World Dragon breath from his [Avatar] ability, which should help all things grow. Anything to help this process complete as smoothly as possible.
