With a flick of Vesperia’s wrist, the grand marble bed dissolved into a haze of silver spatial ripples, returning to her storage ring.

The lingering warmth of their interlude faded into the damp, chill air of the ravine, replaced by the heavy, alkaline stench of bubbling mire.

They walked side by side past the scorched riverbank, descending a jagged stone ramp that spiraled down into the Middle Circle of the Hollow.

Here, the landscape mutated.

The solid stone gave way to vast, treacherous mudflats and boiling pools of fluorescent yellow sludge.

Strange, bloated fungal bulbs pulsed in the gloom, venting spurts of toxic steam.

GURGLE— SQUELCH.

Azriel’s violet eyes narrowed.

He halted at the edge of a slick stone ridge overlooking a wide basin of murky bog.

Scattered across the floating lily pads and rotting logs were dozens of grotesque, bulbous creatures.

Roughly the size of large hounds, they had slick, toad-like skin dripping with corrosive bile, massive hind legs built for explosive leaping, and throat sacs that swelled and deflated like sickening bellows.

Trait: Corrosive Slime (Applies 30% Slowness & Acid Degrade on hit) -

[Sludge-Hopper Leaper (Lvl 6)]

Trait: Kinetic Impact (Heavy knockback into hazardous terrain)

High above on a dry outcropping of stone, Vesperia leaned back against a stalagmite, crossing her arms over her fitted leather chest.

Her dark tail gave a leisurely flick as she watched him, clearly intending to let him clear the path himself.

"Show me your footwork, Az," she purred, her golden eyes gleaming. "Try not to get coated in muck."

CROAAAK— PTHOOT!

Three Sludge Hopper Spitters perched on an elevated mound of dead roots puffed their throat sacs and launched dense globules of glowing yellow acid straight at him.

The projectiles arced through the air, whistling with toxic heat.

Azriel didn’t dodge backward into the muck.

WHIRRRRR—!

Snapping his left wrist, he set the iron fundo spinning into a vertical, humming shield of chain and steel.

SPLAT— HSSSS!

The spinning iron pulverized the acid globes mid-flight, sending the sizzling fluid splashing harmlessly onto the wet rock below.

Before the Spitters could reload, the mud at the base of the ridge exploded.

Two Sludge Hopper Leapers kicked off the bog with their muscular hind legs, hurtling toward Azriel like living catapult stones, aiming their hardened, calcified skulls straight at his ribs to knock him off the ledge.

Azriel’s Warrior’s Instinct instantly mapped the collision path.

He didn’t have a physical shield, but he had something better, pure rotational leverage.

Planting his back foot firmly on the dry stone, Azriel whipped the heavy iron fundo down in a crushing, horizontal swing, timing the exact microsecond of the first Leaper’s apex.

CLANG— CRACK!

The dense iron sphere struck the Leaper’s hardened skull with the force of a battering ram.

The kinetic recoil instantly shattered its momentum.

The concussive shock reverberated through the beast, its eyes rolling back as it dropped limp at Azriel’s feet.

Without breaking the fluid momentum of his turn, Azriel side stepped the second airborne Leaper as it soared past him.

Reversing the sickle in his right hand, he hooked the curved blade around its soft, exposed underbelly mid-flight and slammed the beast face-first into the jagged stone.

SPLAT— SHRRK!

[Sludge Hopper Leaper (Lvl 6) Slain: +110 XP]

With the first Leaper still stunned on the ground, Azriel stomped its neck with his reinforced boot, crushing its windpipe in one clean, brutal crack.

[Sludge Hopper Leaper (Lvl 6) Slain: +110 XP]

PTHOOT! PTHOOT! PTHOOT!

A volley of four more acid spitballs tore through the air from the distant root mound, aiming to pin him down with the 30% slowness debuff.

Azriel didn’t give them the chance.

Kicking off the dead Leaper’s carcass, he vaulted off the stone ledge.

Instead of landing in the deep, movement-impairing mud, his boots skipped across the buoyant caps of giant fungal mushrooms with pinpoint agility.

Mid-leap, he unspooled fifteen feet of iron chain with his left hand, whipping the crescent sickle forward like a flying harpoon.

THWACK—SHRRK!

The curved steel tore clean through the fragile throat sac of the lead Spitter, decapitating it in an explosion of foul green bile.

[Sludge Hopper Spitter (Lvl 6) Slain: +110 XP]

Using the embedded sickle as an anchor, Azriel yanked hard on the chain, pulling his entire body across the open bog like a flying bullet.

He landed dead center on the root mound, right amidst the remaining two Spitters.

The fragile ranged creatures panicked, inflating their gullets in a desperate attempt to fire at point-blank range.

"Too slow," Azriel muttered coldly.

WHIRRR— CRACK! CRACK!

Reeling the iron fundo in close, he delivered two rapid, skull-caving backhands with the dense iron ball.

The fragile heads of both Spitters burst like overripe melons under the blunt force.

Azriel ripped his sickle free with a crisp, wet flick, shaking the foul ichor off the steel before smoothly gathering the loose chain back into his palm.

In less than forty seconds, the entire vanguard of the Middle Circle lay slaughtered across the bog.

High above, Vesperia leaped down from her perch, landing soundlessly on the root mound beside him.

Her golden slit pupils swept over the pulverized carcasses with an approving, hungry gleam before drifting up to his composed, sharp face.

"Not bad, boy," she murmured, a smoky, wicked smile curving her lips as her tail brushed lightly against his hip. "Fast, precise, and not a single drop of mud on your gear."

Azriel smirked, turning his violet eyes toward the glowing violet chasm deeper ahead.

"Let’s keep moving. The real prey is waiting."

Azriel didn’t break stride.

Stepping off the root mound, he advanced deeper into the basin.

Over the next hour, the terrain deteriorated into a treacherous gauntlet of bubbling mudflats, toxic steam vents, and relentless, synchronized ambushes.

Swarm after swarm of Sludge-Hopper Spitters and Leapers attempted to drown him in numbers.

Yet, with every clash, Azriel’s rhythm grew deadlier, his footwork flowing like water over the hazardous bog.

When Leapers hurtled from the blind angles of the mist, their hardened skulls aimed like living battering rams, Azriel didn’t waste stamina trying to cut their rubbery hide.

Instead, he met them mid-flight with heavy, concussive fundo strikes.

The dense iron ball cracked against their skulls with pinpoint rotational momentum, instantly triggering their innate recoil vulnerability and leaving them paralyzed on the muck for two lethal seconds, ample time for Azriel’s boot to crush their windpipes.

When firing lines of Spitters formed across distant, elevated mud banks to rain down corrosive globs, Azriel adapted his reach.

Unspooling fifteen paces of heavy iron chain, he whipped the crescent sickle into the overhanging stalactites, using the tension to swing clean over the movement-impairing mud.

Mid-arc, he would sever their fragile, inflated vocal sacs with a reverse-grip slash before a single drop of acid could leave their throats.

By the time he vaulted over a massive wall of petrified roots, the ambient temperature plummeted, replaced by the suffocating, eye-watering stench of concentrated sulfuric acid and scorched mineral stone.

The claustrophobic swamp opened into a colossal, dome-shaped subterranean chamber dominated by a vast, churning Acidic Lake.

The stagnant, fluorescent-green water hissed violently against the shoreline, releasing thick, yellow plumes of caustic vapor that melted the surrounding rock into smooth, dripping slag.

Isolated basalt pillars and cracked stone platforms jutted out from the simmering depths like precarious stepping stones across a sea of instant death.

GLUUUB... GURGLE.

The center of the boiling lake swelled upward in a massive, turbulent dome of acid.

Breaking the surface with a deafening splash that sent caustic spray hissing against the distant walls, a monstrous, bloated silhouette hauled its colossal bulk onto the central basalt island.

The beast was a grotesque behemoth spanning nearly eight meters wide and four meters tall.

Its warty, rubbery skin was slick with a glowing emerald slime that hissed upon contact with the air.

Jagged calcified crystals jutted from its shoulders, and across its broad, hunched back sat a cluster of volcanic pustules that leaked thick, smoking bile.

Its enormous throat sac, sagging with hundreds of gallons of corrosive fluid, pulsed with a sickening, rhythmic hum.

As its massive, unblinking milky-yellow eyes rotated in their sockets, they locked dead onto Azriel with cold, predatory malice.
