The Forest Feeds No Idle Goblins

Chapter 239 - 212: Our Inherent Territory Since Ancient Times

Chapter 239: Chapter 212: Our Inherent Territory Since Ancient Times

"A snake shedding?" Shire narrowed his eyes. "Could it be from the Feathered Serpent God?"

"I’m not sure, but I think so," Pazani said with a nod.

’If it’s the Feathered Serpent God’s shedding, then that would make sense.’ Shire held his wine glass, mulling over the situation with the goblins. ’Cyan Hide mentioned that the Feathered Serpent Evil God can fly and likely dive as well. From the looks of it, those goblins must be wearing clothes made from the snake shedding, allowing them to temporarily gain some of the Evil God’s abilities.’

’And those Petrifying Lizards must have been drawn by the Feathered Serpent Evil God’s power and subsequently tamed by the goblins.’ He set down his wine glass and let his consciousness sink.

A towering Black Obelisk materialized before Shire. The alien glyphs on its surface representing [Mist Gaze] were already activated and glowing.

[Mist Gaze: You can select an adjacent, unknown area. Once the mist is dispelled, the area will be revealed on your Domain map. This Ability can be used once per month.]

After defeating the Evil Throat Army, Shire had his subordinates relentlessly patrol the surrounding area, hunting down the fleeing goblins. Thanks to the winter and the scarcity of food, the goblins hadn’t managed to get far. Within a few days, his forces grew to over 600 strong, at which point this Ability became available.

’Only once a month,’ Shire calculated, considering a hint the Naga Prince had casually dropped earlier. ’This month is almost over, so I might as well use it now.’

"Reveal the northern region," he said, placing a hand on the Obelisk. A moment later, he sensed a change in the Domain map within his mind.

Shire pulled up the map and frowned as a wash of black ink spread across it. As the ink gradually settled, the detailed features of the large region bordering the Evil Throat Army’s former Domain came into focus.

’It’s huge.’ That was his first impression. Based on Cyan Hide’s report, over 5,000 goblins could be living there. ’This region seems even larger than the territory I currently occupy.’

’And there are numerous markers for relics to explore,’ Shire noted with a quick scan, getting a feel for the layout. ’The herb gathering spots are incredibly dense. Just as I thought, the deeper you go into the forest, the richer the resources.’

After scanning the map, he focused his gaze on an area that resembled buildings. The region was laid out in a large, irregular semicircle, with its northern edge bordering a body of water.

"This must be the stronghold of the Feathered Serpent Kingdom. And the body of water to the north..." Shire said, rubbing his chin and nodding, "is very likely Darren Lake."

’It’s a huge area. It seems impossible that goblins could have built an entire city with their construction abilities.’ After a few moments of thought, he withdrew his consciousness and opened his eyes, looking at the Naga Prince before him. "Prince, I’d like to ask, when the Naga Race first fled to Darren Lake, how did you build your homes?"

"We migrated, it was a migration," Pazani said emphatically after swallowing his wine. He then added, "The elders told me that when our people arrived at Darren Lake, there were already some structures at the bottom of the lake."

"They already existed?" Shire pressed.

"Mhm, yes," Pazani said, nodding confidently after a few seconds of thought. "But the structures were extremely dilapidated back then. They looked like they’d been submerged at the bottom of the lake for a very, very long time. Our people spent considerable time and effort just to repair and make use of them so we could have a safe place to live."

"A very long time..." Shire murmured to himself. He connected this to the layout of the Feathered Serpent Kingdom he had just seen and deduced it must be an ancient, irregularly circular city. ’It might be the "City of Ten Thousand Races" the Skeleton Warriors spoke of.’

’Since it was my subordinates’ former home, then it’s my home... no, it’s my city now.’ He tapped his fingers rhythmically on the table. ’It seems it’s time to reclaim it. After all, it has been the inherent territory of my people since ancient times.’

Shire’s eyes narrowed. He had already laid claim to the city in his mind. It couldn’t be helped; as his forces grew, the Fortress was becoming too small. If he tried to cram everyone inside, they would inevitably encroach on the "Red Bull" growing areas. Yun Xiya had already hinted at this issue with him.

’Too many people, not enough space,’ Shire thought. He wanted to take the Feathered Serpent Kingdom’s stronghold as soon as possible and move a large portion of his people there. ’Fortunately, the Centaurs have already established a proper homestead, so Evita probably won’t need to move with me to the "City of Ten Thousand Races." Besides, with the Teleportation Gate here, I’ll need to leave some people behind to guard this place anyway.’

’In that case, I can convert the entire underground Fortress into a "Red Bull" cultivation base and increase production. According to Mary, Mr. Salumu specifically mentioned wanting to purchase Red Bull Powder. That way, besides Healing Potions, I’ll have another major trade good for generating revenue.’

"Prince," Shire said softly, "I wonder, would the Naga Race be interested in obtaining more Shui Yumo and Magic Potions?"

Pazani immediately sat bolt upright. The four barbels around his mouth quivered. "Of course we do. It’s just..."

After a few seconds’ pause, Pazani shook his head. "It’s too difficult. Acquiring the materials is nearly impossible."

"Why don’t you go back and ask the elders what materials you need?" Shire said, reaching for the bottle of red wine. He hadn’t been paying attention and only now noticed that, while he had been lost in thought, the Naga Prince across from him had nearly finished the bottle. With a hint of attentiveness, Shire poured the last of the wine into the Prince’s glass. "I have a route in the south."

"It’s a bit risky, but the profits are high. I think I can help the Naga Race get some of the things you need."

Pazani stared intently at the goblin before him, weighing his words carefully. "You mean..."

"Fortune favors the bold, as they say. If you trust me, we can work together. I’ll help you get the materials, and in return, my people would also like access to the Shui Yumo and Magic Potions."

"I’ll go back and speak with the elders," Pazani said, unable to make a decision on the spot. He could only agree for now. "But in the meantime, could you trade us some salt? We’re in desperate need."

"No problem. Take as much as you want," Shire said with a magnanimous wave of his hand. "Now then, as for our common enemy, I believe we can form an alliance..."

CHIME, CHIME. A bell rang. Pazani looked down, pulled a Pocket Watch from his pocket, and checked the time.

Then, as the corner of Shire’s mouth twitched, the Naga Prince gave a long, lazy stretch.

"Ah, quitting time. We can discuss this tomorrow."
