Chapter 241: Chapter 214: Just Get It Done
"What’s so difficult, Boss?" a voice called out from nearby, interrupting Shire’s thoughts.
When Shire turned to look, he saw Little John walking over with a smile. "Tell me about it, Boss. Maybe I can run some errands for you."
"You’re back." Shire stood up, smiling at the "Future Hero" before him. "What’s the situation with the Holy Water?"
He was eager to know if the Holy Water had been brought back. His stone house was now off-limits to everyone without his permission, precisely because he feared an accident caused by someone accidentally touching the Angry Long Horn.
"That’s exactly what I came back to report," Little John said immediately. "I know you said this was very important, so I hurried back as soon as I had news."
Little John then recounted his experiences in Black Lion City to his leader, gesturing with his hands and drawing diagrams on the ground to explain the current situation with the Holy Water. During his explanation, he didn’t forget to toss a bag of "Chestnut Roasted Cakes" to the Giant, Caocao, who was standing nearby.
"She wants to find us?" Shire narrowed his eyes. "Is this Druid from the Earth and Life Church trustworthy?"
"I can’t say for sure," Little John said, his smile fading. "Like I just said, I only fought alongside her on the ship. She must be a very powerful Druid; after all, she took care of that whole group of skeletons that climbed aboard all by herself."
"Right. And according to you, she also has some status in the Church." Shire turned his head, his gaze shifting westward. On the other side of the forest, bordering the Tree-man Domain, was the place where he had led his subordinates to fight that Fallen Druid. That area had now been converted into the clan’s underground branch, mainly used for storing supplies and for the upcoming storage of next year’s Tree-man Fruits.
’Thankfully, we were dealing with Count Valentine’s army at the time and missed that Druid. Otherwise, she would have definitely seen my subordinates coming and going in the forest. If that had happened, she probably would have tracked us down long ago.’
"But I burned those Experimental Notes a long time ago," Shire said aloud. "Even if she finds us, there’s no way she can get the notes, right?"
"That’s what I’m worried about. If I tell her there are no notes, she’s bound to be suspicious. After all, it’s not like I’m saying I couldn’t find a goblin," Little John said with a nod. He knew that if he told Sofia there were no notes, she definitely wouldn’t believe him. He had, after all, seen her transform into a fat owl before. "I’m just afraid she’ll follow me secretly and find her way here directly."
"One thing we can be sure of is that she doesn’t seem to have any hostile intentions," Shire said with a slight frown. "We didn’t damage the forest; in fact, we even helped the Mother Tree. That’s a good thing, and it aligns somewhat with the principles of the Earth and Life Church."
"Mhm," Little John nodded. "In my conversations with her, I didn’t sense much disgust toward our clan, but rather more curiosity."
Shire stroked his chin and began to pace back and forth. He was thinking about how to handle this. If he took the initiative to explain things to her, would the Druid even trust him? Then again, it was unlikely anyone would trust a goblin on sight, even if this particular goblin had a decent reputation among the various creatures of the forest.
’But if we don’t meet her, we won’t be able to get the Holy Water.’ He clenched his fists a few times, feeling a surge of anger toward Count Valentine. ’Why did you have to fight me for the Holy Water? I had already paid the bribe and we were about to close the deal.’
"Alright, here’s the plan," Shire finally decided. "I’ll gather the items from that Fallen Druid again. You take either Shan Xi Ao or Yun Xiya with you first, and have them determine if she has any evil intentions. Their little goblin clan is small in stature; as long as they hide well, they shouldn’t be easily discovered."
"That could work," Little John nodded. "As long as we can first confirm that Sofia has no evil intentions, then we can consider making contact."
"When the time comes, you can have Shan Xi Ao hide in your hat. No one should be able to tell," Shire said with a laugh, making a gesture. "That kid has been wanting to see the outside world anyway. I think we should leave Yun Xiya out of it, though. Her past experiences were too painful; it’s best not to have her relive them by association."
"Alright, I’ll go find Shan Xi Ao right now," Little John agreed with a nod, immediately preparing to return to the Fortress to handle the follow-up arrangements.
’First, make contact. If there are no problems, just give those Alchemy Notes and what-have-you to that Druid.’ Shire watched Little John walk away, his mind already racing with how to handle the situation. Ever since he obtained the Angry Long Horn, Lust and Jealousy had come knocking one after another. He was terrified the remaining Demon Lords would all line up in front of his stone house. ’At that rate, I might as well open a lost-and-found office in Yangjiao Town.’
Besides, those guys were no pushovers. If he ended up attracting Anger, the Demon Lord, he was sure he wouldn’t even have a chance to beg for mercy.
"What a headache," Shire muttered, rubbing his temples. "I still haven’t figured out how to deal with the Petrifying Lizard, and now a powerful Druid shows up. Why does everything have to happen at once?"
"Here, eat." Sitting beside him, Caocao saw Shire frowning and muttering to himself, so he handed over a Chestnut Roasted Cake. "Eat up, and your head won’t hurt anymore."
Shire glanced at the Giant, then accepted the roasted cake with a smile. "Yeah, eat up, and my head won’t hurt anymore."
With that, he stuffed the food into his mouth. "Mm, not bad. It’s just a bit cold. It would probably taste even better fresh out of the oven."
Shire smiled and took another snack from Caocao. Many in the clan now liked to give the Giant snacks. Every time Little John and Mary came to the Fortress, they would bring some treats from Yangjiao Town for everyone, but mainly for Caocao. It seemed as though everyone adored this innocent "Big Treasure."
"After you finish eating, let’s practice some more," Shire said, looking at the Giant.
But Caocao immediately put away the bag in his hands. "No. Caocao practice. Caocao protect Green Egg."
With that, he stood up, bent down to pick up a football-shaped rock, and hurled it forcefully into the sky.
WHOOSH! The rock shot across the sky. A moment later, a straw dummy suspended in the distance by a Secret Servant exploded with a BANG, and bits of straw slowly rained down to the ground.
"Nice one, Caocao," Shire said, clapping. "How did you do that just now?"
The three-meter-tall Giant shyly scratched the back of his head and said in a booming, muffled voice, "I just threw it like that, and it hit."
"Mhm, you’re right," Shire nodded with a smile. "’What dilemmas, what troubles...’"
"’Just get it done.’"
